| Re-order the [past few minutes] List | Started by: The_Dean on Sep 03, '12 21:53 |

Alright, I've been thinking about this one for quite a while. At the bottom of every screen we have the "XX Members online in the past few minutes:" list. It just might be the most watched thing in the whole game. The order of this list as far as I know is based on nothing more than how long a person stays alive. With this in mind, no matter what people do, or how hard they work, they could never pass anyone on that list unless they retire, or die in a war.
What I am suggesting is this, and it could make things a bit more competitive. Order by rank instead of age, and within each rank order by prowess. That way people could 'work' for a more prestigious place on the list.
I bet you anything, that for some people this would give them more incentive to work harder. Most people are competitive by nature. Why not put it out there for all to see?

I'm at a bit of an inpass with this one. Part of me says that it should be kept as it is, as it's been that way since the beginning (as far as I'm aware, feel free to correct me) Another part of me likes the suggesstion and thinks this change could only be beneficial for everybody. If you could come up with a list of pro's and con's for your idea The_Dean, it would probably help other people decide as well. |

Sure thing. I'll give it a go.
Pro's:
Possibility of passing people on the list.
A solid showing of a person's hard work.
It would add more competition in my opinion.
Incentive to work even harder.
Getting a high placing on the list would be in itself a reward.
Cons:
It would be different than the way it has always been.
Lazy people wouldn't like it.
Feel free to add your own pro's and con's everyone. |

Would it be tied within ranks or overall prowess? |

Cons:
this destroys everything Grin has taught us and will be an overall detriment to the delicate and evasive ability to be at the top of the list. |

It will be interesting to see if Grin sponsors this then. *grins* |

Sorry Venom, almost missed your question.
I would say prowess compared to everyone else that is your rank. You could never pass someone that was higher ranked, unless of course you ranked up and had more prowess in that rank. |

I disagree here. I believe one of the biggest achievements people like to achieve here is seeing how long they can live. Roman lived two years... TWO YEARS! In MR time that is unheard of. To live that long through countless wars is definitely something to be proud of and something that most any mafioso hopes to attain. People already say we don't put enough emphasis and thought into rank around here, I feel like this would cheapen it even more. "I ranked super fast to beat so and so in the active list" doesn't really sound like a quality reason to rank and be promoted to me. |

You work hard so your leader notices you, not the enemies. |

The way the 60 second list is sorted, at a glance you can tell who is online because its a familiar order. I think if the order changed frequently, then it would lose its value as a "glance to see whos online". |

I think the toggle idea is a great compromise.
Why do I get the feeling, that even the people against this idea would end up hitting the toggle button every once in a while just out of curiosity.
As for people using this as an advantage in war, are you telling me people go to war without doing any homework on their opponent and haven't already got a triage of targets?
I find that a bit hard to believe.
I understand that people are used to it being the way it is, being that it has always been this way; but is that a good enough reason to dismiss this idea? I think the option to toggle it off and on would take that con out of the equation. |

Also Phil_Steak... our "level" is already shown.. so we know who the most active players are anyway. |

As Whitey has said, this would make the glorious position of dominating the 60 second list down to things like "activity", "prowess" and "contribution" rather than the really important skill of lasting a hell of a long time. That isn't natural. Standing astride the 60 second list is one of the main motivators for playing! |

I actually thought I would get more input on this one.
Especially with the toggle option that Squishy mentioned.
I can appreciate people not wanting things to change when they are comfortable with them the way they are, but what is the harm in having the option for each person to change the order, only if they choose to?
You could make it sort by Rank/units so that no information is given away that is not already available by looking at someone's profile. |

I think having the toggle option, is definitely something I'd sponsor and be in favour of. Those that want to keep it the way it is, can do. Those that want to have a little fun and see where they rank in the online list, can do, and then revert back once they've had their fun. I really see no harm in the toggle option. |

I think this actually a bad idea. Not because I view age as more important than rank, but because this is meant to be a role play game. Not a "click buttons more than the other guy" game. Encouraging people to further ignore RP and just grind is counterproductive. |

Hey, one of my (Bloodline's) suggestions was all for RP, and that got swept under the perverbial rug as well. I also stayed away from the Streets for a whole week just to see what would happen, as I used to frequent there often. Know what heppened? Not a hell of a lot. How this suggestion discourages RP is beyond me, cause if it did, I definitely wouldn't have suggested it, since RP is why I came to this game in the first place. I think that ship sailed before I got here, to be honest. Anyway, I'm going to shut my mouth now cause I'm just getting myself upset. Thank you all for the input. I think it may be time for me to just be silent for a while. |

I don't know why you're being so dramatic, some suggestions get sponsored and others don't. It has nothing to do with the person who suggests it. |

Once again, I think this is giving information to others about the stronger characters/players in the game. Sure, level is shown, but it is shown in increments of 5. |
