So here I was sitting at work, texting Geoff, like the badass that I am. Our normal random bullshit conversation turned to an interesting little topic for me. That topic was our favorite video game series of all time. We agreed for the most part, us being long lost twins and such, but I decided I wanted to know what some others in the community thought.

So I went into the Outside forum and searched "Video Games." There are around 15 different threads about your favorite video games, but none about your favorite series. I'm talking about multiple games in a Saga, released over years and years.

Further on down, I will list my top 5, but first I want to explain what I think makes up a great Video Game Series. There were a few things I took into consideration when I made my list. I seriously sat here for an hour deciding which series I thought was the best. I take my gaming seriously, yo.

A. Overall fun factor. How much enjoyment did you get while playing the games?

B. Addictiveness. How many hours of your life did you waste getting those extra items and achievements you didn't really need?

C. Gameplay depth. How deeply constructed were the games? As in, was the story short and sweet, or epically rich with objectives?

D. Consistency.Were all the games in the series badass, or did a couple disappoint? Were you insanely pumped for the next release right after you finished a game?

E. Replay Value.Would you/have you replayed through the series, just because it was that fuckin good?

With that list as my guide, here are the top 5 series I chose, in order.

1. The Assassin's Creed series.

2. The Legend of Zelda series.

3. Pokemon for gameboy. (STFU, you all played the shit outta those games.)

4. The Elder Scrolls series.

5. NBA 2k/FIFA (it was a tie)

Now that you've all either skimmed through this or skipped it entirely because it was way too long compared to most outside threads, please give me your opinions :)

1. Final Fantasy series (for all systems)

2. Romance of the Three Kingdoms (old Chinese historical simulation series made by Koei)

3. KOTOR (there have only been 2 so far, but SW Online is technically based on them as well)

4. Fallout (Post apocolyptic Tactical rpgs)

5. X-Com

6. Jagged Alliance

7. Elder scrolls

8. Mass Effect

9. Need for Speed

10. Grand Theft Auto

I could make this list very, very long, and I haven't really put them in a specific order really. I loved them all.

1. Pokemon series. (Have way too many of those games.)

2. Guild Wars series. (Love love love it. Beats WoW by a long shot)

3. Warcraft series (RTS)

4. Dynasty Warriors series (The_Dean has a nice #2 pic. :P)

5. Elder Scrolls series.


I'd count a few other games, but I only role play on them rather than playing the actual game. :p

Like it or think it's lame, Super Mario kicks everyone's ass. He has been at it since 1983 and without even looking up actual numbers, I can guarantee he has sold the most games (and collected the most quarters back in the day).

The first Donkey Kong game was revolutionary. Not only did it have better graphics than any other game at the time, but it was the first game to feature multiple games within one. It was addicting as hell, too. I used to ride my bike ten miles to the arcade just to spend all my allowance on that stupid gorilla.

I never played Pokemon because I am cool.

After reading this I have come to a conclusion. All of you should be ashamed! Don't get me wrong there are plenty of great series named here, but how could we leave out possibly the greatest ever invented? Resident Evil by far takes the cake over all of these.

I'd have to disagree with you Armageddon. I didn't really like the Resident Evil games. They were eh, okay, just not really my style.

Bates, Mario would have been 6th on my list. While you make valid points, the reason that series is not higher on my lists is because of some of the more recent entries to it. Although plenty of people loved Super Mario Galaxy, I thought it was a lame concept and it wasn't the same for me. But I'm weird compared to most on that series...I hated Super Mario 64. They just didn't compare to the earlier games on NES and SNES, in my opinion.

But we have to realize that this thread is a reflection of people's personalities, what they like or don't like. I didn't expect many people to agree with my choices wholeheartedly.

How couldn't you not this start this list without possibly one of the best games I ever played! Uncharted! It's such a great game of an Action/Adventure game. And, with a great story line based upon it. Let me just make my top 5 list:

1: Uncharted Series.

2. Assasin's Creed

3. Mass Effect. (My favorite RPG there is.)

4. Pokemon series. (Not the DS shit.)

5. Halo. 

All are great games.

Shit. And, maybe Need For Speed. They were great at the start. ;)

Fallout. GTA can't even compete and I LOVE GTA... Fallout 3 and New Vegas just rocked the gaming industry. More so, Fallout 3 did when it came out. Really changed shit up, but New Vegas was a great follow-up.

Hands down, the Super Mario games. Yes, Mario 64 sucked, and the galaxies weren't that fantastic either, but you are forgetting the amazingness that was Super Mario RPG & Paper Mario. Tyvm!

I miss playing Mario...
