Exiting his HQ, Shagggyd, dressed in a bold suit he had recently come to love, walks up to another one of those conveniently placed soapboxes, puts out his cigar, and begins to speak. First and foremost I would like to give you my personal definition of respect in our world. I believe that respect is something one must earn, not something that everyone deserves or should get fresh off the boat. Having said this, I feel the need to draw attention to the fact that these shores are becoming increasingly populated with cocky little bastards who think they are God's gift to Earth. These people who send you messages demanding money, an invite, or wanting you to lay down the red carpet so they can come strolling in, don't deserve shit. I have not been around this world as long as many have, but one thing that bothers me is someone demanding respect just because their bloodlines have done something worthwhile. I did not get to where I am today by using coffee shop relationships or pushing my family history, but by working hard and busting my ass. This work was rewarded by respect from Daera and others. That is what we all need to realize is that, respect isn't something that a Crewleader or RH should have to give to a thug, gangster or goomba. Respect is a two-way street. If you earn respect from me, and are able to show it, then by God I will show you respect as well. Not to say that I will disrespect anyone who doesn't deserve it either. I show no hostility to anyone who does not deserve it. It seems like our shores are being overrun by those who don't give a damn about our way of life. One incident occurred very recently. A gangster showed great disrespect to myself and my family, and so he was shot. He then Threatened my life(OOC: In real life) and was killed again. His Son returned to the shores with the name Shagggydisgay. This is a perfect example, we all know that there will be those who are here just to fuck around, but at what point is it too far? Has this disrespect become a given occurrence in our world, and is this doomed to be the way of The New Mafia? I come here today to ask your thoughts on this matter, and to find out what exactly you believe made this happen? Steps down off of the soapbox, and is handed his flask and another cigar by Adamine as he steps back to listen. |

Takes a good listen to Shagggyd Ok I do agree with you, People are less respectful recently, But I believe it is due to us letting them be. We need to be abit more ruthless, Make people work for Invites, Not just let them expect it is one thing i can think of to change. Not disrespecting anyone but Its what I feel is needed at this moment in time. I recently have be barraged by people inquiring about drugs... Its started to get ridiculous, So much so that I have started to turn people away, or ignore them. But when I went to turn a particular gangster away once I was given quite a disrespectful mail sent back to me... "Well why cant you just give me them?!" I was angered so much I wanted to shoot them, To show them a little something about respect. But instead I bit my tongue and sent them what my dealers knew at the time. Was that the right decision? My theory is "No it wasn't!" We need to teach them our ways. Respect is something you have to earn, and you cant expect it off a complete stranger. You do have to work for it. Takes a back seat to the conversation to listen to other mafioso passing by. |

Stepping up on the soapbox recently vacated by his Boss and close friend Shaggs, Bogey gave his two cents. I agree with Shaggs one hundred percent. You have to earn respect and that begins with knowing how to give it. I've known Shaggs since the first day I came to this world and I'd be hard pressed to find a better man anywhere. I respect him. He leads by example. He doesn't go around acting like an entitled asswipe and he has every right to expect the same behavior from everybody else. Trouble is, not all adults behave as adults. Not all mafioso behave as mafioso. Everywhere you go, you're going to see all types scattered to the different strata. But I say if they are here on the same plane with us, they need to go by our rules or get the fuck out...be that shot by self or others I don't care. Either live the mafioso way, or don't live. Bogey stepped down from the soapbox and took his place in the crowd to hear what the next one had to say. |

On his way to the local liquor store for a bottle of Jameson the circle of onlookers watching the current debate catches his attention. As he listens a few thoughts come to mind so as the last speaker steps off of the soap box he finds himself taking their place. Hello fellow mafioso, I would like to make a quick comment on this long debated subject. Stories of disrespect have been passed on through my family line over the years, sometimes unintentional acts of disrespect and others down right blatant slaps to the face. Sadly it is not always the new generations to our world, personally I have found it is the older generations that may feel they are beyond the normal expectations of our world. There is also a lack of discipline for the lower ranks... If someone just demands an invite from a crew leader why shouldn't they be shot? As for the random drug price questions.... If I don't know you... why would I tell you? I would be more likely to give you false information for bothering me.... Respect will ALWAYS be an issue on these shores of ours. |

Respect, hmmm Stands and ponders for a moment A much discussed subject. Many preach it, few practice it. As an old quote used to go, "Respect is earned not given". Granted, Mr. Shagggyd there are a vast number of peons who believe the way to get places in life is to shout, scream, kick and whine. However not all of us new to these shores are the same. There are quite a few GOOD eggs about, sadly very few of the "elders" let's say, seem to embrace these people (except for a few, I know some people could do NOTHING more to help blood these people). Eyes fixed firmly on the crowd, he goes on... My blood found it very hard to break into this world and it was only through sheer persistance and will power to succeed that we came to a point where we knew how to behave, how to act, how to present ourself and learn about respect, about values, about FAMILY. So much TALK, so little HELP. Takes in one last breath You cannot expect people to come to this world and know how to behave, this is a very different place to all the other worlds out there and the sooner the people here realise that, the better. This is a very hard place to call "home". |

*shankes his head* Oh boy, i so know where you are coming from, sometimes even asking for drug rates around these streets people are rude,i believe that those people are just seeking attention..(acting hard, been douches), there for we shouldn't give them any and let their names be forgotten in our history books, they will always be around.. people of all ages and maturity levels step out into our streets so i say expect the worst that way your not surprised and walk with pride as you know you can make a difference for others. |

You just stated two of the most common myths about respect, Shagggyd. First, that "respect is earned, not given". Not always, my friend. Respect might need to be earned if you are a nobody, but if you are very powerful and you are the Boss, you do not have to earn anyone's respect. Respect IS given, unless someone wants to be wearing cement shoes. Some punk who comes in to your office, do you think he will withhold respect from you until you earn it? I SHOULD FUCKING HOPE NOT! You are the Boss. That punk had better show you respect whether he thinks you have earned it or not. But, I hear you ask, then the respect is fake, not sincere... And? First of all, there is nobody that is going to be universally respected by everyone in a sincere sense. But that leads to the second point regarding this myth - who the fuck cares? I really don't give a shit whether someone truly and sincerely respects me, but by God they had FUCKING BETTER show me respect, or I will cut off their head and eat their trachea. The second myth is "Respect is a two way street". HAHAHAHAHAHA! That's not even a myth, it's just completely fabricated bullshit! Where did that even come from? Who told you that? Sure as hell wasn't a real mobster. Maybe your dad told you that when you were young, and he meant for you to apply it among your peers in social situations. It does not apply in the mafia. Respect is a two way street? Not hardly. Respect flows up - one way. The higher up has the OPTION of respecting the lower rank, but it is not a requirement. Do you honestly believe Al Capone feels obligated to respect some punk on the street? The punk had better respect Boss Capone, but Boss Capone does not have to respect the punk. The thing that is not factored into these myths, and the thing which makes them myths, is POWER. The mafia is different from other frameworks because power plays a huge role in how things are organized and how business gets done. It is not a world where everyone has to play nice. The role of respect in this world is directly related to the power dynamics in this world. |

Have to agree with a lot of what you said Mr. FlyingPig, Sir. I am very uncomfortable with my boss or his Right Hand giving me leeway or talking to me as if I know something. The other day my RHM kindly asked me if I was enjoying the family and if I felt at home. He also asked if I had any suggestions for the family. I felt really out of position, I commented that I was thoroughly enjoying my stay under his and Branston's protection and thanked them for this, however I told them that it was not my place to suggest ways for them to run the family, it was a very nice gesture of him, I guess it shows he cares about even the smallest, minute-ist (sp? even a word?) member of the family but it was something that I was unable to help with. It would, in effect be a case of the blind telling someone directions. I am but a lowly Goomba, until I have earned the respect of my peers and gained a position of trust, then that is all I shall be until my Boss feels I am ready to move up another level and help the family out in more ways. I know my place, it is a shame others do not. |
