Godfather taxes Started by: Isiah_Rhodes on Sep 06, '12 16:11

We currently have a system where crewleaders tax their members and the godfather gets a tax based on a third of the crewleaders tax when a crime is committed in his city.

What I feel would be an interesting dynamic to the game is two abilities for godfathers.

1) Godfathers being given the option to tax crewleaders who have HQ's in their own city a % of the money they make donations and tributes.

2) Instead of the crewleaders tax being based on a third, it actually being a figure that the godfather can set.

Report Post Tip

The godfather taxes are set at a low amount for a very specific reason. Godfathers make less as a GF than they did as their 50 man HQ counterpart - intentionally. This forces the godfather to tax the other crews in his city through an arrangement that is not coded in. To me this is an important situation that I don't think we should just code it to be automatic.

Report Post Tip

Could it not be coded so that each crewleader could be taxed at differing rates?

Report Post Tip

I would prefer that all the automated taxes are disposed of and it is left purely up to the Godfather/Crewleader themselves to determine how much their members give them rather than anything being taken automatically.

Report Post Tip

If that's the mentality shouldn't all taxes be unautomated and depend on people giving actual tributes?

Report Post Tip

That's what I was suggesting.

Report Post Tip

{Grin, I'm inclined to agree, but when it comes to a CL with a 50 man crew, its just plain too much work. We already have people who COULD be CL saying they don't have the time for it.}

Report Post Tip

{I think the good CLs would be able to handle it pretty comfortably. It would expose the bad ones as well, being bad, which I think is also good.}

The one idea we were kicking around back in the day was semi manual kickups of taxes..

It keeps a running total of what you *should* owe in your bank page.

Lets say it figures that you owe 123,000 in taxes. The box is prefilled with 123,000 but you can change it to any value higher or lower, then hit send. It then resets what you owe. The CL never knows what you *actually* owe, the whole system is based upon trust like in real life. You will have people that push up less because they are cheap, and youll have people who push up more to give the illusion they are a harder worker, and youll have those that kick up the appropriate amount. The crewleader can suggest daily/weekyl kickups, or whatever he chooses, but the actual actions are triggered by the member hitting the button.

I think this makes it a little more realistic and now requires a little bit of trust, while not really adding any real amount of work.

Report Post Tip

The above also would be similar for CLs to GF, the CL gets a box with the pre-computed amount that should be sent, but he can put whatever he wants to kick up to the GF. The GF has to take it on faith, or certain amounts.

I'll go with Squishy's first post. There's a reason behind the automated taxes, it seems fair and the users don't abuse it as it stands so I see no real need to change anything. If leaders were continously putting high taxes for themselves then I could see tax changes being made easier but..

Report Post Tip

I love the idea of semi-automated tributes/earnings as Squishy explains.

If that was to be made the overall suggestion, it'd definitely get my vote and sponsor!

Report Post Tip

This discussion seems to be getting away from the original point altogether, this was about GF taxes not CL taxes.

But yes as Squishy has so rightly pointed out GF's can tell a leader how much they have to kick up every week or such, no need for this to be coded. Although every time I have been a CL under a GF they haven't asked me for a single dollar.

Report Post Tip

Thats the beauty of it Flash, every GF maintains their own preferance. Ive had GFs that requested 10 mill a week, and others that requested 1 mill, then some that didnt want a single penny.

Agree also with Flash's point, the discussion has taken a turn away from the original idea, I feel the original idea isn't required but would be happy to discuss the proposed CL changes on another idea if someone wishes to propose it.

I like that interaction is made to happen. If these taxes were automated then it would be more just clicking buttons over actually talking to people.

I don't even like the idea of semi-automated taxes between the GF and the CLs in the city. Only being able to set a flat tax rate of what they should pay wouldn't work in some situations, for instance if the CLs are asked to pay a certain amount per X members in their crew.

I like the way it currently works, and don't really see the necessity of the change in this case.

Report Post Tip

I feel the current taxing system is fine the way it is. In my opinion this option could only hurt the GF in either cutting himself short on what the CL might have sent otherwise or risk them looking greedy for setting it at a higher percentage than the CL is comfortable with. Sure if it's low the CL has the option of sending more, but I am viewing this in the same manner as gratuity.

If I go out to eat with a large group of people, most restaurants policies are they will automatically add an 18% gratuity to the check. However, a good waiter can tell whether the gratuity is worth it or not based on the interaction with the table. If I get my check back and there is gratuity... That is all they're getting from me because that is all they think they're worth. 18% vs the 20-30% I would have been more likely to leave.

If a GF and his CL's don't know and respect each other well enough not to have to have a percent set between them, shame on them.
