.......Is really starting to get on my proverbial "goat". I'm not sure if this is a new phenomenon, or something that has perhaps become more common in the past few months as I lay sunning myself on foreign shores. But either way, it has sufficiently irritated me in the last week that I felt compelled to come and make my inaugural speech on the topic. Bite size speeches seem to go down well, so I'll try to be brief. This is the Mafia, and what we run here in the Windy City is a Mafia family. It is NOT ... A - The local shop B - Casual employment C - An AA meeting D - A toilet E - Your own sitting room A motley crew of places, you might think. And indeed they are. But what do all THESE places have in common?? YOU CAN COME AND GO FROM THEM AS YOU FUCKING PLEASE. Personally, I don't really care if your buddy is being authed. I don't care if he wants you to run the family bar. I don't care if you feel that another city is 'just nicer at this time of year.' And I certainly don't care if you're just after a change of scenery. We take you in from the cold, and you, in turn, make a commitment to us. It may sound harsh, but as far as I'm concerned, that commitment might as well be written in blood. When you take up a space in our family, we work daily for your protection. If you were killed, and another leader unreasonably refused to punish their member, then we would likely go to war for you, even if it was probable that we would lose. With each crew almost full, the space you occupy means that other, potentially more useful and loyal family members, are turned away at the gate. So if you want to leave - you leave in a box. A few exceptions can be made. I am usually willing to let members go if they have been asked by a close friend to RHM in a new family. But past that, I can't think of many situations where it would be appropriate or acceptable to treat the families in these four cities as if they were some sort of animated game of musical chairs. Is this the correct attitude to have? We are in the Mafia, after all... Your thoughts are most welcome. |

Hears Carbolic speaking and walks over From this message I would say that you must be having alot of people wanting to leave your family...I must say I agree if they are going to leave it should be in a casket or if they can get a RHM or Leader for another family to vouch for them they cold leave that way...Like you said it is the mafia and you swear on your life and that's what it is. I'd also say its probably over one thing and I probably would re-advise my family or just keep unhappy members or people ready to leave. For they know not what they are signing up for until they done signed up. |

Alice walks by the discussion and hearing what is being said turns back to say what she thinks of such disrespectful idiots. This is easily solved. Kill them if they even bring up the subject. They're not loyal, they're wasting your time and space why even bother? |

If you're expecting blood oaths from random thugs you've just picked out of the gutter, yes, you're expecting too much. These young street hoodlums are brash, self-centered and dumb. In many cases, they use their bosses as a paycheck while purposefully exploiting the protection they get. Yes, they use you, much like you use them. These people are called "associates." They are such simply because they have made no blood oath. They are considered infinitely more expendable than a button man. If I were to get into any sort of damaging squabble with a Made member of the community, I would expect nothing more than a bullet for the trouble. It's the way things should be, I think. The only reason they're in this line of "work" to begin with is because they do not respect the law, they do not respect private property, they do not respect personal security... A pattern emerges. It is the job of the Bosses who recruit these associates from the street to instill in them the sense of loyalty, respect, or fear. One must shape them into professionals. Once this takes place, then they are sworn to the Family by blood. So, associates skipping out? Distasteful, but not exactly the most shocking practice in the world. And yes, they deserve to die. That's the beauty of it. They can only prove their worth, not their worthlessness, which should be assumed. If you're holding on to a HQ full of sub-par idiots simply because they were there while turning away stronger/smarter/more loyal prospects, I can't help but question your business strategy. If we're talking about Made Men, then I'm afraid you've got a problem too large to be solved by growling at people on the sidewalk. |

Certainly not Made Men - nobody receives that honour around here without having proved their loyalty through good times and bad without question. As regards hanging onto a HQ full of lazy people - on the contrary. I'm never more happy to see a lazy person leave with a bullet in their ass - my problem only arises if people expect to be dropped and waved off happily ever after. |

It's a sad fact that those who keep their head down and graft away will have the attention taken away from those who embark on an idiotic path. Simply put, those who get on with things and don't make waves will always be overlooked thanks to the minority who can't follow a simple set of rules. The key to this, as my dear Carbolic has pointed out, is that by admitting you into my family, it's not just you that makes a commitment. When I send that invite, I am pledging to do my absolute utmost to fight your corner if you have been wronged. In essence, I am willing to put my life on the line for each and every one of my members, providing they are not wrong. This has been demonstrated by ancestors of mine, as most of you will know. So when Billy Bob informs me he does not see fit to adhere his end of the bargain, that he thinks loyalty is optional, it makes me see red. When this happens, it is naught but a slap right in not just the the chops of myself, but in the chops of the other more loyal members of my family as well. |

My forefathers, before me has always taught my bloodline when you join a Famiglia, its blood in blood out. You come in alive , you leave dead in a body bag. So only a few reasons I feel its ever alright to ask too leave you're famiglia before death. IF Authed, also if you was asked to become the Rhm of another famiglia, but only with the blessing of You're Don. That famiglia gave you a home, protects you ... so you owe them respect and loyalty. |
