So-and-So is tired and stressed out after a long hard day at work. So-and-So turns on the computer, enters their information and logs into MafiaReturns. They hadn't stopped to make a coffee, or slowed down to light a smoke. They click the petty to get that out of the way, only to see 'you have failed the petty'. They open their OC to find no one available, then pickpocket someone that was 'PP friendly', only to get mugged.
They open IRC to a torrent of OBITs and people Entering & Exiting, but no chat worth talking about.
They are getting pissed quickly. They open their drug list only to find the drugs they had bought relatively cheap had lowered in price, and when they bought a tip, realized they couldn't fly anyway since they just got mugged. Exploding with frustration and pent up anger, they hover their cursor over <Manage>/<Settings>/<Suicide>. A few seconds go by, then they make the decision, clicking the button...
<MafiaReturns> Game is going down for maintenance/backups. We will be back up in approximately 1 minute.

The above scenario is, of course, the worst case on purpose. There could be an absolute torrent of reasons why someone finally decided to hit the <Suicide/Retire> button. What I'm wondering though, is whether the game going down for maintenance has ever given someone that extra time to think about it, or step away for a smoke, make a coffee, calm down, etc.
Even this worst case scenario, if they came back after a smoke and a coffee, finding their personal flashing...
MafiaReturns.com has given you a gift. Click here to open it.
Opening it to find a Jail perk for 3 days, then clicking jail and finding one was popped and spending the next few minutes busting, and getting drawn right back in.
I'm just saying, it could happen. I wonder if it ever has. |

Getting mugged resets the fly timer? I didn't know that. |

Ignoring the mugging debate almost starting; I enjoyed your scenario The Dean. |

But once you click the suicide link, the backup only delays it a few seconds, right? Or could it actually ignore the request? |

I am pretty sure that the backup itself can be up to a minute, as most things I click on time out. That may be just me though, since my internet is not so great. |

OK, so "few seconds" might have been selling it short so if it happened to you that your requests got times out, it would be really funny to see this happen. That would be a crappy day for sure... |
