Had an idea that wanted to run past you guys and gals, I know we can talk to each other within a crew but how about having a chat available for the whole city aswell like in a different tab at the bottom of the same page. It would be pretty much the same as IRC but would be in the game.

Only con I can think of here is things getting a little cluttered, and even then I dont really think its that big an issue. Seems a good idea to me.

If it had to be opened in a different tab/window I doubt it would get much use, the reason crew chat gets use is that it's on every page. If it's going to be on a new tab/window you may as well just use the in mibbit client to access irc as that is how that works.

no what i mean is its on the same page but you click and it goes to the other city chat and then back to crew chat

also its very frustrating that you can't talk to other city members for example when you want to do OC

Hmmm this is starting to intrigue me, the only issue is will people bother to switch between the two to check family/city or just leave it on one. Perhaps with some sort of notification that someone has posted in the inactive tab.

Aye i really think people will use it and maybe light up each chat when someone speaks will work. Its just easier for users when they want to communicate with family members from the whole city, this would also benifit in a war situation.

I don't know about this, I kind of like it just being for your crew.

Grin there would still be a family only chat, this just opens more choice to the person sending the message.

I know, I appreciate that. I just kind of like it being purely for the crew.

I really like this idea! It'd be really handy for those times at work when I can't get on IRC and none of my family members are online to bother!

Only if a hide option is avaliable.

I would love to see crew leaders have an option to share a city wide rolling chat with the other crews in the city.  It would be a lot of help for small cities, like Detroit in retaining membership of new players, because they could ask questions of more people... also, overall it would be a great for building camaraderie for people who are on a phone, or playing from work... they could still get to know the people who also work in their city.  I know that some crew leaders do not like the rolling chat already, so that is why I am suggesting that crew leaders get to make the decision on whether their family joins the citywide chat.  I just wrote this in another thread.. but I thought i would add it here, so that maybe some of you would be convinced to sponsor it :D

Also, just to say my peace on this matter, I love the idea. People are starting to use the in game chat more frequently and for important reasonings. However when we wish to chat with people from the same city we have to find our way to IRC or mail the person in game. Flash has a great "tab" there and it would be more useful then harmful honestly.

For people communicating on OCs, these feature is God like.

I think it would be very useful to have both options. I like Flash-Fire's mock up. That way if you don't want to be involved in the city chat, you don't have to be, but the option is there! I support this fully.
