| Reputations | Started by: U_Froglike_Plot on Sep 18, '08 07:11 |
From the shadows, I walk up to a disused lectern, look at the banner I had hastily made and stare out at the masses. "Welcome people, I'm here today to talk about reputations. Some people say it's all you have in this world; some people spend years trying to build up a favourable reputation, whether meticulously networking, giving speeches in the street or working hard within the head quarters, a reputation is something that we all have and we all have control over. "Reputations do not come over night, whether bad or good. They take time, effort and consistency to achieve. There are those at the extremes, people with particularly bad reputations and those with particularly good reputations. "FlyingPig is one of the more reputable characters around these shores at the moment. The flying swine is known for his no-nonsense, direct speeches about our world. He's known as an upholder of intellect, lavishly scorning the idiotic in an attempt to educate and better those in need of such help. Such a reputation takes generations to build; it takes time and effort to obtain whether consciously or sub-consciously doing so. "So I ask, how long does it take to build a reputation? In my opinion, it depends on the reputation you are building, to build a bad reputation is allot easier than to build a favourable one. "Once built, how long does it take destroy said reputation? Again, in my humble opinion, it depends on the reputation; to destroy a good reputation can be done relatively quickly but to vanquish a bad reputation? That takes time. "How do you think you're viewed? What reputation have you built for yourself?" |

In my opinion there is no set time to build a reputation. It's built by your actions and the way you conduct yourself which could take a month....or 20 years. You have to give respect to earn it. But like you said, depends on the type of reputation you are trying to achieve.
A good reputation can take months/years to achieve and 5 seconds to destroy. And a bad Reputation could take years before you are respected even a tiny bit. All depends on how bad you want to change and if you have the motivation and the determination to right your wrongs and make up for your past.
Well kinda goes 50/50. I have never really been active and always stay quiet for the most part, but I have from time to time made comments that should not have been said. SO all in all I dont think I have much of a reputation yet still kinda forming mine. Well now that Tea time shouted me out and caught me under my blanket people may have a different view of me =/ lol |

I believe that reputations are important but on the other hand they can be somewhat inhanced by others or destoryed. All in all a good rep is really based on weather the people of the street enjoy what you have to say or by the actions that you make throughout your day to day life here on the streets of our fine cities. On another note a lot of people believe once your mold is cast then that is how you will be throughout your career. No matter how many children follow in your footsteps. |

Alchemist steps into the streets and is intrigued by this new topic. Thats an excellent discussion. In my opinion, there are many things that go into your reputation. 1. Your ancestry. Anything that your lineage has done, is held against you. The actions of your forefathers is usually the cornerstone of your Mafia Lifestyle. 2. Your loyalty. Anything that you say or do against the family is taken in and recorded; for or against your reputation. 3. Your character. All the things you say to people are considered upon making important decisions about your future. Its just the way the mafia works, by word of mouth. So, when you bring together all these things, you have your reputation. And the things that matter most in this world are your reputation, your word, and your family. Alchemist nods then takes a seat |

| Your past, your future and how you treat people now helps to build your rep. How you act in the street, how you act in the coffee shops and how you act/change when you get some power. (as we have seen a lot of people change) all effect your rep. Its easy to ruin your rep.. and hard to earn it. | |

Very treu StripheCorelli. When i said its overrated i ment that because your great great grandfather was a family boss it shouldnt mean that his great great grandson should be family boss too. Each time someone of your family line enters this world you have to earn respect again. Not to your friends from a past life but to the new contacts your family makes. My great grandfather was once a family boss, this doesnt mean the NEED to give me the room to start a family again. Respect is earned, not given |

I don't believe in a single person reputation. I have always believed that my reputation is based on the reputation I help make for the family. All actions I take, I take thinking about the family reputation. If my family looks bad then I look bad. All in all the only person I really try to impress is my boss, I mean after all, she has given me all the necessities I need to make it in this world, I would find it selfish to worry about my own reputation. |

Shadow put it the best way you really can. Everyone takes different lengths and longer to prove themselves but one dumb mistake can send everything crashing. It's a tile effect that so many have felt and they may have felt it more than once. It's really about attitude. These words are what changed me to who I am maybe they'll help others.
