Obama or Mcain? Started by: Riley on Sep 19, '08 17:40
With all the debates I've had because I have "vote Obama" in my profile I'm curious as to which way our community's majority vote is leaning. McCain or Obama? Now I already know what Izzy and Nine think...how about everyone else? Who are you voteing for and a quick why.

His policies are rewarding when comparing to Bush, I agree with that. But he's going to TAX, TAX, and TAX. And it's hard to vote for him when he's trying to close out my future. Obama doesn't want any nuclear power in the USA, but what else is efficient and clean?

I hope he doesn't get killed for being our first black president.

If McCain gets office, we are doomed!

I think its obvious hes a great leader. I like how he's the opposite of bush and I agree with most of his policies especially how he is against war. http://lessig.org/blog/2008/01/barack_obamas_2002_speech.html <<<<< read that

McCain, Obama was in office for only like 150 days then it hit him that he wanted to run for president also McCain was Tortured for five years so I am saying he knows what it's like to go through a tough time which is what America is going through like usual. I have many reasons why McCain yes I know hes old but he is trustworthy, and on the other hand if Obama does become president I won't complain because I heard he will legalize marijuana.

I'm on the fence really.

While, I'm all for alternative fuels and energies and a general push in the technology side.

I'm for keeping my guns too. I'm prolife, prodeath (death penalty for cases of murder and rape.)

We'll see what happens, I have some more weeks before I have to decide. :)

McCain, This is because, 1) Oboma is not patriotic. He doesnt not hold his hand over his heart like a real american should be doing. 2) His ideas are copletely corrupted, if we elected him then we would create a nation that would let anything go. 3) He wants to tax tax tax, his policies on taxing more for richer, well sort of getting rid of rich is like the theory of communism, so by choosing Oboma its like being in a communist country.
Report Post Tip
McCain, when asked his opinion of the Iran situation, sang "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" to the tune of Barbara Ann - The Beach Boys.

McCain, in response to a question about the current economic climate, admitted he didn't really understand the economy.

McCain is a man who's foreign policy closely resembles that of Bush's administration, and after so many years of bemoaning Bush, you're willing to vote the same cut of politician into the White House? Jesus fucking Christ I weep for the American public.

Incidentally, how can you say McCain is patriotic and Obama not? What a wholly ridiculous statement that is. "Hey, this Obama guy is ready to devote, and as he's proven risk his life for the betterment of his country. He can't be patriot though, he doesn't put his hand over his heart!"

Great logic, cretin.

Our country (the U.S.A.), may be doomed, but not because of any policies that either candidate may implement, but because of the decline in the intelligence of the electorate. It is funny that the only person to make sense here was not from the USA. (Branston)

Some examples of uninformed voters:
mcain because he acculy did something inhistroy before he ran for president and obama did nothing for the usa

- Yes, because being a P.O.W. certainly qualifies you for the highest office in the country. "What do you know about the trade deficit, Mr. McCain?" "Nothing, but I know it hurts like a bitch to have bamboo shoots under your fingernails". Obama was President of the Harvard Law Review, whereas McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class. I like McCain, though. I'm much more comfortable with him than any of the other Republican Primary candidates. Poor choice of VP, though. That woman is deceit personified. (Oh, but she's so cuuuuuuute!)

on the other hand if Obama does become president I won't complain because I heard he will legalize marijuana.

- Lol wtf? I do not doubt that you DID hear that. Probably from the same source that supplied GWB with most of his intelligence. FYI, the President cannot legalize anything. Congress makes laws and repeals them.

I'm for keeping my guns too.

- Sort of goes along with my previous comment. The President does not have the power to pass any laws of this nature. It is the job of Congress to make firearms regulations. As far as keeping or losing your guns, no one has EVER tried to make firearms illegal. This is a fear-mongering tactic used by Republicans to win votes from hunters. The only legislation that has been before Congress is handgun bans in some urban areas, bans on automatic assault rifles, and Brady bill restrictions like waiting periods. All sensible legislation, really. No one needs a grenade launcher to go deer hunting. If you believe the NRA propaganda that is out there, they will have you believing that the Democrats are out to take away your twelve gauge shotgun used for hunting.

Joseph Porello, your whole post was nonsense. Obama is as patriotic as anyone. You have to put your bullshit detector on when listening to political propaganda.
2) His ideas are copletely corrupted, if we elected him then we would create a nation that would let anything go.

Care to elaborate on that? What exactly is corrupt about his platform? Trying to balance the budget? Providing health care for all Americans?

As far as his tax policies, it would simply be a return to what this country has been doing for the last 60 years. Regressive tax policies make everyone pay an equal PERCENTAGE of their earnings. Yes, if you are wealthy, that means you will pay more, but you can afford it. It is not a new idea or a communist idea. It is simply good economic sense. Our nation does not operate without funding. This money comes from taxation. Government is not free, and it is not cheap. Where do you want this money to come from? Under Bush and neo-conservative supply side economics, tax breaks are given to the wealthy under the theory that they are the nation's employers. Having more expendable income, the theory proposes that they will create more jobs and expand the economy. Of course, this is bullshit, and has been proven time after time throughout history. Bush's tax breaks for the wealthy did a hell of a lot of good for our economy, didn't they? There are hundreds of CEOs with a few extra cars in their garages right now to show for it. Obama would propose an end to those tax cuts for the wealthy, basically putting us back to where we were before Bush. The war, the tax cuts, the subsidies have put us in such debt that we, our children, and our grandchildren will be paying for this for over a century. Like I said, government is not free. At some point we will have to pay for the horrible economic policy of Bush. Where do you want that money to come from? Someone who makes 5 million per year can afford to chip in one million. Someone who makes 50k per year shouldn't be expected to chip in 25k of his earnings, just to save the multi-millionaire some cash.

If anyone would like to learn more about economic policy, deficits, and taxing, feel free to message me. It might be the only place you will learn it, since our media is too busy covering Paris Hilton to inform you about such trivial matters.

To be fair, we don't really need the guns for deer hunting. We need the guns to overthrow a tyrannical government, should we ever get back to that point.
Report Post Tip
You'll be hard pressed to find a candidate for any political office who is without their closeted skeletons.

I generally vote for the candidate with conservative ideals, not because I identify as a Republican, but more often than not I tend to agree with their opinions on the major issues. I've never voted for anyone I 100% agree with, and until I run for office, I never will.

Obama is young and inexperienced, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes when things aren't working, a fresh new perspective can put things back on track. His running-mate, Joe Biden, is a very experienced political mind, and though I rarely agree with his politics, I respect Biden's career and the passion with which he's pursued his goals and those of his constituents.

McCain is older and more experienced in the political and military fields. Everyone loves to talk about his time as a prisoner of war. He didn't start basic training in the Hanoi Hilton. He does have the first hand knowledge that I personally believe the commander in chief of our troops should have. McCain is heavily conservative, but not so much that he is opposed to crossing party lines to pass legislation that he feels will help the American people. His running mate, however, a relative unknown to most of the US until a few weeks ago, is questionable. I really couldn't care less about her pregnant daughter (every family has issues, deal with it) but what I want to know more about is her record. She's been so carefully guarded so far... Just makes me wonder what all they're trying to protect her from.

What I am afraid of is that this election will be decided by ignorance. I've heard more than I care to hear of people saying

"I won't vote for Obama because:

a.) he's black."

b.) his name sounds like Osama."

c.) OMG his dad/stepdad/third cousin three times removed was a Muslim, and therefore a terrorist."

I'm also tired of hearing

"He'll get assassinated or I hope he doesn't get assassinated for being black."

The 1950's called. They want their White American mindset back.

Furthermore I'm also tired of hearing

"I won't vote for McCain because:

a.) he's old."

b.) he'll just have a heart attack in office."

c.) he was a POW so he's obviously a war monger."

The point is, if you really want to know who to vote for, dig deep and do your research. Look into voting records. Look into past speeches. Look into their political careers and find the candidate who most represents your views and ideals.

No offense to FlyingPig, but if you want to learn more about politics, get off your asses and do the work to educate yourself and form your own opinions.

People who cast their votes based on color, who has the hottest VP, who the media tells them to vote for, or by eenie meenie miney moe continue to justify the existence of the Electoral College.

I debated on whether to comment on this issue at all, especially after FlyingPig made that great post, but I feel that everyone deserves to at least have their say, whether or not other people are more educated or have done their research. Most people in this election will be more educated about the candidates than before, but there are still some that will not be.

I do not pretend to be more educated about the candidates than anyone else, and everything here is based on what I have seen so far about the candidates, which I can't say is really all that much at this point.

I am voting for Obama, and I made my mind up months ago, and no, it's not just because I am a Democrat.

The first reason I think Obama would make a great president is because when I watch his speeches, I just feel that he would unite everyone around the country to make it a better place for everyone. In his speeches, he seems to know more about what is really going wrong with the country, whether it is placed there by the speech writers or not. Some people say he is inexperienced; I see his short time in Washington as an asset, as he has a fresher perspective on everything than people who have been there for decades (not necessarily McCain).

The main problem I have with McCain is things that I have heard in the media (just like everyone else) and I don't pretend to know much about him. I have heard that he would like to continue Bush's policies, and put in a position of power the man who said that the recession is all in our heads. I'm sorry, but I know that many people in this country are not just suffering from a recession in their heads, but are suffering every day.

The second reason why I would not vote for a McCain/Palin ticket is what I have heard about Palin's views toward women's issues. These have not been very well researched by myself personally, but as I said, I am going on what I have read and heard personally. What troubles me is that sometime in her past (I'm hoping she does not still feel this way) she has said that she is against abortion in all terms, including rape. That just rubs me the wrong way. From what I have read, Joe Biden has women's issues in mind more than Palin, which makes me very uncomfortable to vote for her.

So these brief points said, I will be more than excited to place my vote for Obama in November.

Dude i got tired of reading pigs especially when he said no one is trying to take guns away. Dude must not be a gun advocate. Cause if he knew a couple months back they tried to take them. Luckily they didn't cause of the constitution but yes They are trying to take guns away.

Any ways McCain or Obama. I say Obama if he sticks to what he say's but has any president ever did what they said NO.

McCain is like alot of people said the same on almost every thing as Bush.

To me our best bet was Ron Paul. but nooo we fucked that up
Report Post Tip
James, who is "they"? What was the House or Senate Bill which proposed this legislation? What, specifically were "they" trying to take away? Rocket launcers? Pea shooters? Slingshots?

I am an advocate of all our constitutional rights. That includes the 2nd Amendment. I grew up in rural Wisconsin where deer hunting is a religion. I am also a political scientist and a legal scholar. It is my job to be aware of changes in the law. I would know about it if such radical legislation was enacted. And yes, it would have to be enacted to have any sort of credibility or judicial review. If the reason "THEY" didn't "take them" was "cause of the constitution", what that would necessarily mean is that a bill had been passed into law, and was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court upon judicial review.

No such thing happened. There has never been, and at least in the foreseeable future, never will be any legislation designed to ban all guns. No one wants to take away your deer rifle. Ask your local NRA chapter to stop feeding your head with garbage. I have seen the pamphlets they send out, and they are designed to scare idiots into believing that the government is out to take all their guns, usually followed by instructions on how you should vote in the next election. Do not confuse regulations with bans. Guns are regulated and will continue to be regulated. That does not mean they are or ever will be banned.

Repeat after me..."No one is out to take away my gun. No one is out to take away my gun. No one is out to take away my gun".

I heard that if you repeat that enough times, Wayne LaPierre will evaporate into a puff of smoke.
