| Guess We'd Better Kill a Mofo | Started by: Marietta on Sep 19, '08 19:25 |

Hurry up! Marietta Rossi, Head of the Detroit Crime Syndicate, called over her shoulder to her side-kick and associate Forever. "I'm coming!" the woman called back, running up the cobblestone street to catch up. With a groan of frustration Mari turned, grabbing Forever's hand and pulling her along as she broke into a run again. I want to get this over with. My meeting is in two hours and I wanted to fit shoe shopping in beforehand. Silently Forever rolled her eyes but continued to follow the bouncing blond curls as they made their way to a prime corner on The Streets. Spying an empty fruit box nearby the woman scooped it up, waddling a few paces forward before dropping it back to the ground with a loud crashing noise. Ahem, she said politely, turning it over so that the bottom was facing upwards. With all the drama of a Hollywood starlet Marietta hopped up onto the crate, wobbling in place for a moment as she tried to balance on her black high-heels. When at last she became stable she sighed heavily, raising one of her hands towards Forever. Snapping her fingers twice she proclaimed: Light me. Forever raised an eyebrow towards the woman and began to blink rapidly. After several moments of silence, noticing that there was not a cigarette in her hand, Marietta slowly turned her head to face her friend. I said light me. You know, can I get a smoke? "And?" Forever shot back sarcastically, crossing her arms over her chest. This was met with a frown from the green-eyed woman, who bent over slightly, leaning towards the other blond and asking in an almost whisper, Please can you light me up a cigarette? "Gladly," Forever stated with a satisfied smirk, unfolding her arms and pulling a cigarette out of her purse. Striking a match she carefully lit it, taking a quick drag before passing it over towards the woman on the box. Marietta did not smoke, but rather placed it between her fingers and waved her hand around before she began, once more, to sigh dramatically. I'm sick and tired of this shit, she called out loudly. The hustle and bustle of The Street's traffic did not halt, nor did it diminish in the least bit. Hmphf, the woman said, raising her head and increasing her volume. I said: I'm sick and tired of this shit! At last the desired results came in the form of a few gangster passerbies with prickling ears to stop and stare. Marietta smiled encouragingly, waving them over to listen to her speak. "Drama Queen," Forever muttered. Oh quiet you, Mari hissed back. I'll have you know I learned these 'dramatics' from your Grandmother. And let me tell you... Slowly the few goomba and thug stragglers formed themselves into a small group around the crate, nudging one another and whispering as the woman continued to bicker with her Right Hand. Oh! she said suddenly, chancing a glance at everyone and noticing that they had actually approached them when she had gestured for them to stumble over. Glad you could all make it! I wanted to talk to you today, perhaps get a few opinions. Rather, a lot of opinions. You see... The woman paused once more, finally- actually- taking a drag of the cigarette, letting the smoke filter out of the corners of her mouth a bit at a time. See, as I said before, I'm sick and tired of this shit. It's time that we, as a community, decide what the fuck needs to happen with pick-pocketing. A giggle broke out from beside her and Marietta immediately narrowed her eyes, turning to shoot a glare at Forever before facing the crowd once more. Every single day I get some sort of complaint. "I was pick-pocketed without my prior permission." "Someone shot me because I stole some of their money." Or my personal favorite, "I want this man punished to the fullest extent for this crime." Well, I guess we better haul off and kill a mother fucker then, right? Marietta shook her head slowly, wagging the pointer finger of her free hand back and forth. Wrong. This 'pick-pocketing', the art of stealthily stealing the cash or wallet out of one's pockets without said person noticing, is meant to be just that- an art. But let me tell you, people around here, they treat it like it's an abomination! One of the biggest sins we as mobsters can commit! The Gods of this world did not intend for us to kill one another over something as minimal as pick-pocketing is supposed to be, so it bothers me immensely when I get a request to have someone killed, or one of my own hounds me to have another mobster disposed of. Squishy, I believe it was, came down on that fateful day and taught us all this new skill of crime, made it clear that pick-pocketing was not to be treated as an attack on one's life. Yet every day I get someone coming up, shouting in my face, complaining about how they felt threatened or scared for their life because so and so stole one hundred dollars. Of course this is hours after the fact, when they finally discover that JohnDoe has even taken their wallet, but it all gets turned into a scene from the silver screen nonetheless. I am tired of the dramatics. The rumor is that at most someone with a good 'pp' skill can take up to five thousand dollars. Five thousand dollars. If it means that much to you, why don't you bank it folks? It is, after all, a means of profit in this world, placed there as such by the Gods themselves. Why would people not use it? Taking a deep breath to calm herself, the woman once more shakes her head, passing the cigarette back over to Forever and clasping her hands in front of her. I do, however, see the other side of the argument. Hard earned cash is hard-earned cash. When any amount of it is taken from you it feels like a slap in the face to all the hours of crimes you have spent committing. So that is why I am here today. Lets stop these petty squabbles and discrepancies by coming up with a good way to slap the wrists of those who pick-pocket someone with a sign hanging around their neck that says "pickpocket and die". What can I, as a Mob Boss- or any of us Mob Bosses really, do to get the message across not to pick-pocket someone who does not want to have their back pockets violated? Death, to me, is too much of an extreme for something so small and insignificant of a pebble on this road we call life. Lately I've been telling the culprits to send the money back and have been locking them in the Tea Time office cellar for two hours in 'solitary confinement'. Earlier I threatened to beat my crew with bamboo sticks if they did not get permission to commence the activity. Seriously, just ask. What have I been missing to get them to stop? Or... is it the minds of those who are being pick-pocketed that we need to change? Teach them to lighten up when they lose the pennies that lay loose in their pockets? Forever cleared her throat and Marietta sighed. Fine, fine, I get it. My apologies for rambling so much, I'll cut to the chase. To make things clear all I want to ask is: what is the appropriate stance for pick-pocketing? Are we, as Mafiosi, taking the entire crime too seriously? I would especially love to hear from those who do not engage in the activity as to why they feel it should be considered a crime. |

Listens to Marietta's speech intrigued You raise a very good question. One my father always though about when he was in a position of power. He even made a speech about it to be exact, since people complained often to him about the issue. BuddahBear takes a hit of his joint before pressing on What he would tell those poeple is this, there is a bank, use the damn thing. Pickpocketing is meant to be a crime that is unseen by many if succeeded. The reason being? Well if you letting your cash hang out there, when we live in a life of crime, then if it's taken by a theif who bumps into in the streets then opps on you. Now if that individual gets caught commiting the crime in other words failing and being seen doing it? Well then he should be rough up a bit, and since that option isn't available, well then you it's up to the Mafioso's CL on what action is taken. There is many things that can happen, paying the individual a large some of cash as a punishment, removal of the gun even, grounded to home city, but death? I think that's a bit harsh. There are other ways to punish a Mafioso for his actions, I could come up with a few more if I set my mind to it. Although in another perspective this is the life of crime, and in the world like this, theifs can get shot as quickly as anyone else. This is a great discussion that I feel should be addressed just for sake of opinion. Do I feel we should kill everyone who attempts to get a little spending cash on the side? Absolutley not, if anything it should be promoted, being seen as we are all Mafioso's and everyone of us knock over a 7-11 more often than Adamine pops pills. BuddahBear takes a swig of his whiskey Just my opinion anyways. |

*Steps up into the crowd to make his conment.* You know, I really don't mind pickpocking, but if someone takes your hard-earned cash without you saying so, that isn't fair. I think we as the picker and the picked, settle it out by themselfs. Pickpocking is a risk. The picker might become the prey. But I'm not saying killing is right. If someone finds out you took their cash I think you should give it back to him. Its like being caught by the police. You give up what you took in order to not get fined more. If you think you can get away with it and ignore the picked, I think he holds the right to pop a cap in you. Thats all i got to say on that. *Turns around and trucks people out of his way.* |

Walks in to the middle of the street and stares around. I have a poem for this sort of thing. Pickers... Pockers... Snickers... Slockers... You're all motherfuckers and I hate you all. Well I think that sums it up. |

Maxie mingled through the crowd but avoided BuddahBear so she wouldn't get a contact high. I'm going to go out on a limb here and hope I don't get beat by a bamboo stick for it. I don't see any difference in pick pocketing and what we use to know as mugging. Both are a disrespectful act of one mafioso stealing from another. Stealing was punishable by death before. Why not now? |

| Well Maxie it's quite simple. Back when we "mugged" each other that was a brutal attack, resulting in you landing in the hospital which means no flying. Now you are simply snatching their wallet for a few grand. Are you really going to say $5,000 is someone life? | |

Yes AlexisVonWaffle it is not alot but they are disrespecting the Mafia who they are pickpocketing. Also it could be alot for the gangster and Goomba's that are trying to make money and someone takes there hard earned money away from them. Alot of people make it clear they dont want to be mugged or pickpocket and thats fair and they shouldnt be pickpocket or mugged. Myself if someone pickpocket me its fine with me, am one of them people who doesnt blame a man or woman for trying. But mugging I would have none. *Smiles* |

Maxie turned around to respond to the gorgeous AlexisVonWaffle. I should've explained what I meant by what mugging use to be. Before muggers had the ability to delay their victim's flight time the only thing they could do was take their money. That's what I meant by pick pocketing and mugging being the same. As Marcus reiterated my point, it's disrespectful to steal from another mafioso, regardless of the amount. |

Alright, you all have brought up some good points. While there are differences between pick-pocketing and the former mugging, there are similarities as well. I understand the outrage towards having your possessions stolen, whatever they may be. So what do you feel, or suggest, would be an appropriate way to deal with those who are 'rogue' pick-pocketing? As Alexis said, and I agree, I don't believe five thousand dollars is worth someone's life. Hell, it costs ten thousand to even put someone on the community hit list. Removal of their weaponry, like BuddahBear suggested, could be a good way to slap someone on the wrists. But would people not get angry that they got their 'trusty sidekick' taken away from them over a non-violent crime? I'm merely just trying to travel through each route and find the one most effective. In the past I have killed someone for repeated non-permission pick-pocketings, I have demoted, taken guns and screamed at the top of my lungs. Yet people continue to do it. Is there something I'm missing here? Marietta waves her hand in front of her face suddenly. My apologies for way my mind is working today. I realize most of what I just said may not make sense. I think I'm coming down with a cold. Glancing over at BuddahBear the woman narrows her eyes. ...Or someone was smoking pot nearby... |

Why it should be considered a crime? Well, it IS a crime, isn't it? Or did I miss something? We are criminals, crime is what we do. As a Mob Boss, there are lots of things you can do to address the problem. The one thing you should NOT do is try to make a "law" regarding it. It makes my head hurt every time I see crew leaders gather as if they were a legislature, and try to implement some universal law that should be imposed in every situation. Are we mobsters, or are we members of Congress or Parliament? Handle the problem like a Mob Boss should handle it. Look at the circumstances involving each incident, and make a decision based on those circumstances. Is your RHM a Wiseguy who was just pickpocketed by a Gangster who is not even in a family? Shoot him in the face. Is it a Gangster who was pickpocketed by another Gangster? Fuck 'em both. You have more important things to worry about. Did one of your Mademen get pickpocketed by some Goomba? Tax the Goomba five times what he stole and teach him a lesson about respecting a Mademan. The job of the Boss is to make these decisions, not to defer to the population at large or to a legislative body of family heads. |

An honest answer that I appreciate. Thank you, FlyingPig, for commenting. Thus far I have weighed each situation and done what I felt was appropriate- I was just getting a little sick and tired of having more and more people rushing into my office crying each day, and I wouldn't be surprised if other Mob Bosses are getting the same reaction. Underneath it all I think people need to realize it is not a huge emergency, and deal with these annoyances in a calm and level-headed manner, instead of beating one another or running rampant through the Streets with a shot gun. Either way, thank you for the feedback. |

gameownage overhood the conversation in the streets while doing his daily crimes and drug running. he walks over and feels like he's just been set a blaze by the others as they all turn and stare into his eyes at once. after a moment of silence they look away and keep talking (more like shouting). finally finding a small shift in the fight, he trys to go in and talk finally, hearing some good news for once. i mean, im only an earner. whatever cash i manage to get is like a gift from a fucking flying walrus. ide be pissed off if i lost it just as much as anyone else, but death as a response? that would be like trying to mug an old lady only to be met by a 12 gauge shotgun to the forhead. im not really in any spot to be fighting on either side but i thought ide get my 2 cents in there. gameownage walks over to a wall near the fruit stand, making sure to keep his distance from his boss in the case she might notice him sitting there and melt him with her heat vision or something, and sitting on the cold hard ground, takes out a cigerette and lights it. |

I honestly feel that if sombody doesn't wish to be pick-pocketed, their choice should be respected. For sombody to go right ahead and pick-pocket them its disrespect, and in this way of life, respect is very important. That money stolen money could be part of a tribute to that persons boss. so not only are they stealing from a member of our socity but the theft could be disrespect towards their victims boss and family. |

In a perfect world people would remember to use the banks. In a perfect world people wouldn't carry around large sums of money. In a perfect world there would be rainbows and lollipops for all. I'd love for there to be no rules regarding pick pocketing. Would I ever... Maybe the "xxxx took my money" complaints would stop. Maybe the "xxxxx must die he pick pocketed me" would stop. Should people die for it? No. It's not mugging, it's just lifting a wallet. Sure they should get their asses kicked, or their own pockets picked.. If you won't want to lose your money then put it in the bank. Simple as that. |

I think BuddahBear has pretty much covered my opinion right at the begining of this debate however there are a few things ide like to add. It is all well and good deciding on each case individualy but I think the point of this street gathering was to reduce the crap mails Marietta receives every day not increase them! By treating everyone differently I can only see an increase in the complaints although the nature will change from "He's got my cash, he must die" to "When my mate jim stole my money he had to pay 20k why do i have to pay 30k?". I beleive that the family heads have to sit down and decide on a punishment that will be unanimous for everyone that is caught pinching wallets. |
