Grave Robbing Enhanced Started by: SquidMaster on Oct 04, '12 17:52

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I come to you today with an interesting thought that some of you may or may not enjoy. In our community, Grave Robbing is considered a low life thing to be doing. I mean desecrating someones tomb for their valuables isn't something any established man or woman would do in their lifetime; at least not by my thoughts.

I agree with the current system that a Wise Guy or below should be able to rob the graves of anyone as they enter the graveyards... but I do believe possibly something new needs to present itself to the MadeMen and above as well. I am sure in at least one instance or two these "low life's" would have to be shown how to "Rob a Grave" the correct way to ensure your hard work actually pays off to the fullest.

My suggestion would be to allow the Wise Guy or below to invite his or her "Sponsor" that had invited them whether it be the Crew Leader or whomever they are sponsored by in the family, to help them with this robbing. Now obviously these established men and women will not be getting on their hands and knees digging through the trenches getting these valuables to be fenced. But they may be able to add their own protection to the job, possibly watch in case anyone "tries to steal the valuables" as he is acquiring them. Another aspect to view would be, the Made or above would most likely have a better "Connection" with someone to be able to fence the items for maybe a little more cash for their pockets, rather than someone who isn't "truly trusted" within the confines of that cities undesired black market.

What do you all think?

I like. Would it be better if the sponsor found the grave, and then invited their associate to do the labor?

Just debating which is more realistic. Either way, I like it.

Discussing this in person and have some notes:

Add a tip method for GR: costs $500, gives a high value target. Worst case you get your money back.

On the made+ method, make the max that can be robbed 15k and the split is 60/30.

For a GR without a made+ lower the maximum earnings low enough that it makes it worth while to have a made+ on the job. To somewhere around 3k.

Report Post Tip

As long as the rewards are kept pretty low I like this idea, Adds another dimension to the game, I'd like to see the Made+'s role expanded properly so there is an option to obviously succeed or fail but also to succeed but have your items stolen by a mobster (the game eats it up), therefore you can do the graverob on your own and have a decent chance of being robbed in return, but if you choose to involve a Made+ in it then the risk of having your loot stolen drops dramatically as they're on the lookout for you.

One question for me if the latter was implemented would be... if someone robbed a grave without a Made+ and their goods got stolen, would they lose the exp gained from the intial graverob too? (For the record, I think they should)

Also agree with the tip idea for a high value target.

Report Post Tip

I do like the high risk of a failure scenario over lower payout. Makes more sense. As for XP, if you fail, you fail.

Report Post Tip

I'd definitely like to see this idea implemented then.. if a fail is a fail in terms of XP then I'm in.

Report Post Tip

Also, from a playing perspective... I have never and will never use the graverob feature since it was introduced but if this was implemented I'd probably use it myself and I'm 100% sure I would help out anyone who I sponsored do one.

Report Post Tip

I think this would be a great way to implement another "shallow" feature to the game. Some features strike to the bone, such as mugging and so on.

This I would hope would accomplish a little more activity to do around the site that would encourage users to help stay online during the periods of time in between say an Inactive or it could even help produce some good face time between sponsor and associate. Making money together is always a nice learning experience.

Report Post Tip

Should it only be between a sponsor and his associate? That would still leave many higher ranking players unable to grave rob. I know it makes more sense RP wise, but in my opinion the main goal of this would be to give made+ a way to grave rob. I personally think that any made+ should be able to work with any noob in the same city. MAYBE same crew, but for GF crews that may be too restrictive.

Report Post Tip

Could you make it so that if you're in a GF crew you can do it with anyone in the city, but if you're in a regular crew, crew members only? Or is that getting too complicated? I'm really liking the way this idea is fleshing out.

Report Post Tip

I think a GF should be able to, as PC-Cassiopeia stated, invite anyone in their home city and anyone else would have to be invited by family only.

But also, as she stated, don't wanna make this too complicated ;)

Report Post Tip

Hmmm, no, that is not at all too complicated. And it makes sense that a GF crew member has a little more sway in his\her city.

Report Post Tip

I understand the concept of bringing in the sponsor, but I think this needs fleshing out a little more before it becomes a believable act that they would be involved in.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone other than the very lowest of the low would be out robbing graves at all. Perhaps if it was extended and your sponsor could pay you for whatever you've pulled out of the ground and they in turn fence it to someone else for greater profit. I suppose that is a potential scenario.

Report Post Tip

Grin, I believe I have already stated something along those lines in the original posting.

possibly watch in case anyone "tries to steal the valuables" as he is acquiring them. Another aspect to view would be, the Made or above would most likely have a better "Connection" with someone to be able to fence the items for maybe a little more cash for their pockets, rather than someone who isn't "truly trusted" within the confines of that cities undesired black market.

Report Post Tip

I believe you did as well. You also stated that the sponsor could "possibly watch in case anyone "tries to steal the valuables" angle, which I don't think is realistic. Made guys don't stand lookout whilst some deplorable character digs up a body to rob whatever they happen to be carrying. That to me is not believable at all and well below the status one would expect of a soldier.

I still find it difficult to believe that anyone other than the very lowest of the low, real gutter scum, would be out robbing graves at all. I think you would earn yourself a pretty disgraceful reputation if this was what you did with your evenings and I can't see it reflecting too well on any Made Man or above that associated themselves with you either.

At a push, I could possibly see a sponsor taking some goods from their little street thug type and giving them to their contacts. My post was really suggesting an extension of the feature, rather than just including the sponsor in it similar to OCs and suddenly the payout is higher. I would like to see some sort of explanation and scenario a little like the Godfather one, where things progress and you get multiple messages, such as:

"Jimmy the Scumbag (you) is out robbing graves, he pulls a diamond out of Don Balotelli's (your victim) bloated corpse"

[Next]

"Jimmy pockets the diamond and covers his tracks. He thinks this might be the sort of thing Louie the Capo (your sponsor) might be interested in, but then again he might be able to flog it faster himself. Jimmy goes home and washes the dirt and grime from his night of stealing while he decides what to do"

[Invite Sponsor] [Sell it yourself]

If Invite Sponsor

"Jimmy approaches Louie' place nervous and excited. Louie was an important guy in the BillyBigBalls (your leader) family and he might have a connection that could see Jimmy bag a big score. But, Jimmy was a nobody who robs graves, might be that Louie takes the diamond himself and tells Jimmy to take a hike"

And so on and so forth with a few different options on how the story can pan out depending on what the person decides to do. Maybe there could be a chance of getting busted by the cops with the diamond and you both end up doing time, definitely not going to win Jimmy the Scumbag any brownie points with the big boys higher up. Alternatively, maybe he's found a family heirloom from the old country and everyone gets a nice wedge from the deal.

Something to extend the simple act into something more substantial, enjoyable and interactive. There is scope for development on this concept to enhance it from a pretty unrealistic and unsavory act, into a plausible worthwhile scenario.
