Weighted votes - Get rid Started by: Mysterion on Nov 01, '12 10:58

"Not to be an ass but what you are forgetting to mention is that not all of those PC players are active, Squishy rarely votes as a PC member, Ter rarely votes, and 1 or two others also seem to not vote."

To point me out for "not voting" is a major miscalculation.

I will admit I rarely get myself tangled in all of the discussions. But that is generally due to another PC member having the same opinions as myself on each said discussion, and what I would have pointed out or discussed gets discussed anyway.

I'd like to point out, In all votes that have either passed or failed, I always make time to read through the discussion and casted my own vote based on my opinion and what I feel is best for the development of the game.

I see no issues with how the voting works personally.

I personally dislike weighted voting. I dont feel that it's necessarily 'fair'. It's really no the way 'voting' should happen.

Having said that, this is indeed a 'mafia game' if you want to keep a sense of that type of thing included in the PC then I guess I could understand that - but I am personally against it. No offence to Grin, Ralph, or El-Nino - but i see no explicit reason for those particular individuals to have votes that count the same as 4, 3, or 2 votes respectively. I want to reiterate, it's not those particular individuals - but any person at all on the PC. I could maybe understand if they were voted/appointed for specific reasons (which could be the case - but I haven't seen that explanation).

At any rate, personally I am at a disagreement with any weighted vote. No matter what standard that weight is based upon.

Great suggestion Mysterion.

I personally like the PC Leader, RHM, LHM votes having more weight then my vote.

The CL, RH and LH appointments are supposed to be taken fairly seriously when it comes to the site deciding who to choose. If I'm recalling correctly, weighted votes were introduced to provide (some) semblance of protection to the minority in the case of very significant changes to the game that could be rammed through by the majority. Keep in mind that while we may have weighted votes, sponsoring power in general is still held by a majority.

Adding to that, as I've mentioned in a previous thread, I petitioned to add an additional two members to the PC so that the CL/RH/LH votes don't drown out the majority. We now have a vote tally that can override us in the (incredibly) rare situation where the CL, RH and LH all vote of the same accord. The solution to people who are inactive or do not vote on resolutions is simple - vote them out of term when you're given the chance.

Couldn't agree more with Ralph here.

The weighted votes in my opinion are not an issue.

Report Post Tip

I would like to clarify my opinion on this matter. I originally stated that I am completely against weighted votes. This is not one hundred per cent accurate.

My major issue was that in a group of (by my count) eleven people, between three of them there is a total of nine votes, versus a total of eight for the rest. yes under the new size, the majority can outvote the leaders if the leaders all vote together and the  remainder of the PC all vote together, but realistically, that doesn't happen. and even with there being ten people besides the leaders of the  PC,  it is still possible for a minority to command the vote if they have the agreement of two out of three of the PC leaders.

however, I agree that the leaders should have some extra power, as it is a position of responsibility, and that should not be without its rewards. As a result, I would not be opposed to the weighted votes staying, if the vote bonus of each leader on the PC(LHM excepted) was dropped by one. this would give the PC CL a vote weight of three, and the hands a vote weight of two each. seven votes is almost exactly half of the PC, and would still require almost a perfect split majority to succed rather then the PC leaders plus one being a majority.

I also understand that the PC leadership does not often wwork perfectly together, and this is how it ought to be. However, It is still easy for two out of three to command a majority with minimal support.

So, in conclusion, I'd like to see the PC CL get three votes, and the hands get two votes.
