Lilac wasn't long off the boat, but already she'd found herself taking to the mobster life like a duck to water.

She'd always wondered exactly how she bore any resemblance to her mother Lola; physically and temperamentally, they couldn't have been any more different. With that, she was apprehensive about her new life when she first set off for Chicago. She wasn't naive. She'd always tended towards her father's characteristics and like him, was wise beyond her years, whereas her mother had always learned by trial and error. One thing she knew for sure was that this thing didn't offer much wiggle room for trial and error. It was precisely that which had cost Lola her life. She'd mourned her deeply and it was her untimely death that led Lilac to these shores, driven by the need to succeed where her mother had left off and continue her legacy. All she had were her wits and Lola's journals; they were detailed, scrupulous and full of the lessons she'd learned during her time.

However, things appeared to have changed significantly from that time. In fact, almost everything was different - but Lilac believed that this was mostly down to seeing things through her own eyes, rather than Lola's. This was the mob. Lilac had done her homework and knew that even if things seemed to have changed, they were still intrinsically the same where it mattered.

She had sought out a Chicagoan family, again wanting to breathe new life into her mother's roots. Fortunately, she was quickly accepted into The Borgata and was relieved to get a roof over her head and a base to start from. Pretty soon, she realised that this was where she and her mother bore similarities. It felt almost as though she'd been here for years; her duties came naturally, she had absolutely no qualms about getting her hands dirty and moreover, she knew her place and the colossal amount of sheer hard graft it would take to get anywhere in this world.

Several days after her arrival, she got to talking with a gentleman whom she knew to be of the greatest significance within Chicago, Godfather SquidMaster. She exchanged conversation politely and modestly, made her intentions clear and felt extremely privileged to have interacted with the upper echelons of Chicago so soon. Having read her mother's journals thoroughly, she was fully aware of how much respect these men warranted, the dedication they had shown to their city and the tenacity with which they ruled Chicago. The city was new, finding it's feet in a revived infancy and it was these men who had brought it back to life. She knew that Lola would be proud of her for taking a role in her city at such a crucial period in Chicago's history, and she intended to do that pride justice.

It was during one of her conversations with Godfather SquidMaster that she was offered an opportunity to take on a little more responsibility. They got to talking about the business district, which Lilac had noticed was somewhat lacklustre, and upon offering her own thoughts to the Godfather she was given the role of Business District Manager. To be so young and yet responsible for the running of one of Chicago's most prevalent financial resources was not something to be taken lightly, but she knew she was up to the task.

Emerging from the Godfather's offices, she had exhaled slowly, stifling a humble smile as she straightened her suit with renewed purpose. She lit a cigarette and surveyed the streets of Chicago, turning her head towards the deathly silence emanating from what was once a bustling arena of shops, bars and service stores. This was the one part of the Windy City that required reawakening, and it certainly wouldn't be as simple as shaking a limb rattled with pins and needles...this was a serious task.

''Time to get to work, then'', she murmured to herself, taking one last drag of her cigarette and walking directly towards the Business District with her notebook at the ready.
