This idea would be pretty easy to impelement as it is already done for Petty, Felony and what ever other timers if you have the timers package.

My idea is that when you get a message it flashes "New Message" in the title of the page. This will be great for people who are doing things in other windows and otherwise have no knowledge that they just recevied a message without having to go back to the other tab. As I said previously it wouldn't be hard to impelement as it is already done, which is a pro for this idea, it wouldn't take time away from other harder things to code in.

There could also be something else that alerts us to the fact that we have a new message, maybe like the dings from the timers but slightly different so they aren't confused and so people actually check there mail.

I can't really see any negatives from this but if you do see any please reply.

I noticed that this has no responses yet, so decided to reply now. I do have a question, though. You say that the advantage to this would be that users could see they have a new message without going back to the other page...but don't we get a flashing envelope icon in every open tab? I know I do.

Just a thought. Maybe you could elaborate a little more?

What I meant by being in another tab is, like viewing facebook, ebay, twitter or what ever you do while playing MR. Currently there is no way of knowing that you were just messaged other than constantly checking back. If there was some alert maybe you would go and check it. I know that sometimes I'm in other tabs and I forget that I even have MR open until I hear a little ding telling me to do another petty.

Well, I could see a little ding being feasible, but I'm not sure about having the alert appear across all of your non-MR tabs.

I have no real problem with this, but I'm not entirely sure how worthwhile it is either.

I'm not sure what real purpose this would serve to be honest. I am not usually a fan of things that make things that are already as easy as could be, such as simply switching to another tab, even easier. I will wait to hear from others and their opinions before I give a definitive answer, but at the moment, I'm not really for this.

I honestly don't see a need for this, if you want to go visit another site in another tab while playing MR (which I do frequently) then fine, but I don't think you need a notifier that lets you know you've received a mail, it'll still be there when you return & I'd find it more of an annoyance than helpful.

I'll add that as the petty timer sounds every 3mins 20secs anyway, you see any messages when you go to do your petty, so no substantial time elapses before you would reasonably check your MR tab.

I must admit that even if I have multiple MR tabs open, my timers sounding multiple times annoys me as it is, so I'm not sure I'd welcome another. This would also be fairly irritating for the Upper Structures in game as they receive a lot of mail; they may not appreciate the distraction.

This feature is already implimented with the timer toolbar if you have the petty popup enabled! If you have the petty popup enabled, your browser will change the title of your MR tab to 'Petty Time!!!' instead of Mafia Returns - The Game >> forum or some such other situation.

The purpose for this addition is clear, it alerts you (without a noise mind you) that you have a message. For those saying it would be 'annoying', give it a toggle. This is a great suggestion. 

If you want an example of what i believe the original poster is talking about think about when you get a facebook message, how the title on the little tab flashes 'new message'? That would be a great add-on. I don't come in here every time my petty timer sounds off because honestly i've learned to tune the thing out. But a message that could possibly be quite important? Hell yes I want to know about it from another tab. Please reconsider your negative thoughts towards this suggestion.

Yeah, I think there's enough of an alert now... anything else would be overkill, not to mention a waste of time coding for a bunch of bells and whistles.
