I am thankful for my family. They saved me from a life of drugs, gangs, and violence when they adopted me.

May you all enjoy the holidays and dont forget to tell your loved ones how important they are to you.

Thanksgiving is a day for me  to focus on all I have to be thankful for. It is also a reminder to not take the daily blessings I receive, small or big for granted. Everyone have a safe and happy holiday.

Why would you want to celebrate a day were they slaughtered the Native Americans? By the way, 'indian' means savage.

Im thankful for turbos, nitrous, superchargers, prochargers, firearms, and family...and the umm little bit of freedom we have these days.

My grandmother is full blooded Cherokee so I dont really care about this "holiday" but its nice for getting together with family. Maybe not celebrate its past but its present.

An estimated 10 - 140 million deaths of Native Americans are directly linked to US actions. Compare that to the Holocaust's 6 - 10 million, and let that sink in for a couple of seconds.

I don't really know much about Thanksgiving. It's not something we celebrate in England, and after FartBarf's and koolkat's comments I thought I would read up on it.

Judging by the information at hand, Thanksgiving actually originated in England, and has nothing to do with any deaths.

I then looked at the American history of Thanksgiving... again this is from wikipedia...

As you can see, it's about a good harvest... not about deaths.

Historically, Thanksgiving began as a tradition of celebrating the harvest of the year.

Again, nothing about Native Americans or the killing of them.

And somewhere down the line in school, I could be wrong, I heard of a feast with the pilgrims and indians at the same table. Which was considered one of the first Thanksgiving's in America.

Also, maybe Pilgrims and Native American's did share a Thanksgiving meal but that does not mean Thanksgiving originated because of Native Americans.

Anyway, the point is that this question: "Why would you want to celebrate a day were they slaughtered the Native Americans?" is not correct. Thanksgiving was never about celebrating the slaughter of Native Americans.

You judge a country on the actions of its ancestors from hundreds of years ago? lol. Get a grip on life, let people enjoy their holidays.

It's not due to the actions of ancestors, my reasoning would be for another thread. I'm just saying without the Natives, those dudes wouldn't have had a harvest to thank God for.

And we repayed them by leading the largest mass genocide known to date... and stealing their land.
