Report Post Tip

Here is the original suggestion.

A lot of people liked that with the old contacts you could see who had you in their contacts but we have not done that with the new system so that you can safely have your enemies as contacts as well. It had been suggested that each group could have a toggle to share it with those that are in it.

I would just do this but there are a few options on how to go about the display of who's lists you are on:

A) Simple list. Regardless of how many shared groups you are in per other person, it just shows you once, like the online list I suppose:

OtherPerson1, OtherPerson2, OtherPerson3.... etc

B) Table that shows what group(s) you are in as well as the styles:

OtherPerson1: *Losers
OtherPerson2: ~Peeps, $Crew, &LA
OtherPerson3: #I Hate These Guys
....etc

Keep in mind, you would be able easily to choose which groups other people can see themselves in.

I removed option C as obviously that would just be failing voting, what I would suggest is we try and decide which variation we want before it goes to the vote.

Report Post Tip

Seems cool with me. Definitely straightforward. Unless anyone else has any thoughts.

Report Post Tip

I'm not really sure that there's a need for people to know whose contacts they are in... maybe I am missing something here, but I really don't see how this would be a benefit or how it would positively impact the game.

What is the purpose of knowing who has added you as a contact?

Report Post Tip

Well, in the past, it was nice to see who had you as a contact. I definitely wouldn't want people to see what group I put them in... But it's usually a good way to find people if they've died or otherwise.

Report Post Tip

You can currently add dead contacts to your contacts. I am with DeadlySin here, I don't really see the benefits of this change. It was coded with you not being able to see them now even though you could before for a reason obviously?

Report Post Tip

I think the only real reason is so when people die and return they tend to add you to their contacts, if this was visible to the person still alive it makes it easier to find them after they died.

Report Post Tip

If they are adding someone to their contacts after they die and come back, don't you think they would take the time to reach out to tell the person they are back? And if they haven't maybe there is a reason?

Report Post Tip

Some people will add all their known friends and not necessarily mail them if they are offline.

Report Post Tip

I would like to hear from the coders why this was intentionally left out before we vote to possibly reinstate it.

Report Post Tip

I personally think some people enjoy the aspect of being able to watch someone without them knowing, such as highlighting their name on the 60 seconds list. The art of surprise can be utilized by anyone and I am sure if it were a real life situation, if someone were watching you, you might be able to tell depending on how discreet they are.

This is why we have to give a little wiggle room for a game aspect I suppose :).

"I would like to hear from the coders why this was intentionally left out before we vote to possibly reinstate it."

We chose to not show people who added who so that the feature would be used by more people. Previously people would not use contacts because it would "let XXX know I am watching them". You can add someone for many reasons, some of which you don't want them to know you are tracking.

I feel if we put that back in, it would prevent a large portion of the users who use it now, from still using it.

As far as making it optional to let people see or not see - I think anyone you want to see, you guys are probably on each others lists anyway. While I wont veto "they see you added them" idea, I personally think time is better spent elsewhere

Report Post Tip

Unless anyone has anything to add, I'd like to set a vote time for this within the next 24 hours.

Report Post Tip

Although I seem to be in quite the minority here, considering how many other votes we've taken on introducing/modifying features to the contact list, including an option for shared groups and optional visibility, would, I believe, "complete" contacts, as quite frankly, past this feature, I don't see any other additions being actually helpful/necessary to the feature on the horizon.
