Los Angeles: a city known for it's glamour and glitz. Even the scenery seemed to pick up on the fact that it was supposed to represent a higher caliber of beauty. The sunlight trickled down between the full leaves on the towering trees, washing the street below in a pattern of light and dark splotches. Marietta Rossi gave a small grin to herself as she allowed her eyes to travel over the length of the brick buildings on either side of the cobblestone road. A city of beauty that had no idea of the dark workings that lay underneath. Turning to face the door she stood next to she knocked twice. Tapping her foot impatiently she finally heard the clicking of the locks. Slowly the green wooden frame parted way to a small, pale face of a boy who could be no older than ten years old. A large smile graced his face as he gazed up at the woman and she in turn responded with one of her own. "Auntie Marietta!" he cried, throwing the door open and rushing into her arms. With a small laugh she lifted him up to her hip, gathering him close. Hello there Henry. Is your daddy here? Did he do as I asked? Nodding eagerly the boy wiggled his way out of her grip and ran back into the house, stopping to wave her in and calling, "Come on in!" Following him inside she shut the door behind her, twisting the lock back into place. Glancing at the coat rack she already saw several unfamiliar overcoats hanging neatly next to each other. "Perfect," she thought to herself, smiling as she followed her over-enthusiastic nephew into the kitchen. The tapioca colored tile and counters reminded her much of the kitchen her Mother and Father had in their home while she was growing up, though the dim lights and the figure standing in the doorway watching some unknown activity in the dining room was out of place. There stood her older brother, Johnny, staring silently as voices from beyond him seeped into the room. Heya Johnny, Marietta said, walking up and tapping him on the back. Turning slowly on the spot he gave his sister a smile and a shrug. "Sis," was his reply. Are they here? she asked, shrugging her coat off and tossing it onto the counter next to the sink. With a shake of his head he raised his arm to point at the dining room. "Through there. Why did you guys have to use my place?" Because, Johnny, Marietta snapped, rolling her eyes. The entire crime world went under this past weekend. There is literally no other place in LA that I would trust to hold this meeting. You said you didn't mind... "I know, I know," her older brother said with a sigh. "I just get uneasy around Mobsters." Giving a taunting grin Mari slapped her brother on the back and giggled. Tough luck, John. Thanks, though. Without another word Marietta entered the dining room. The lighting was a bit brighter, at least bright enough for her to recognize the two men sitting around the comfortably sized table. Juggalo, one of her own associates was sitting back in his chair, his arms crossed over his chest and an amused smile etched across his face. The other man, only known by his moniker 'Bi-Polar_Bear', was leaning forward talking animatedly about something. Narrowing her eyes Miss Rossi gauged the conversation, slowly feeling better about the situation as she watched them interact. Seems you two are getting along, she interrupted, walking towards them and taking one of the extra chairs. Both men nodded in greeting towards her and she sat up straighter in her chair, folding her hands across the top of the glossy wooden surface of the table. I suppose you two want to know why I not only called you all the way to Los Angeles, but to my brother's house at that. Before allowing them a chance to reply Marietta took a deep breath and began rambling as fast as her mouth would allow. As you know the war of this past weekend has left the entire crime underworld in shambles. At first I wasn't even sure where we would begin to piece things together. The war from coast to coast left all of the major seven cities with limited mobsters and limited resources. It seemed almost impossible to try and fix what had been broken. Then just earlier, after a discussion with Cab_Tufting and Doyle, we came up with a solid plan of authorizing several men and women of Made status and above to start their own crews in different cities. The two men exchange a look but quickly dart their eyes back over towards Marietta. The plan is to put two in each city. Not just any two, mind you, but two that have been carefully selected and whom we are sure will put forth their best effort into working together to create a lively city. Right now what we need is a stability and growth period. That does not mean, however, that things have to be boring. Marietta flashed the two men a smile and slowly they began to sit up straighter, catching on to what the woman was hinting at. Basically, after a careful selection process we decided that you two... if you agree... would be perfect candidates for the rebuilding of the Los Angeles crime world. Juggalo, having worked with you personally I know that you are a man who weighs his decisions and is not hasty to jump into anything. Mister Bear, after meeting you I have come to find you are a man with a level-head on your own shoulders. This is an offer, that if you accept, I know both of you will have put plenty of thought into, and will continue to do so to create an environment in the City of Angels that all Mafiosi will prosper from. Both of you were a tremendous help in the war effort to protect the cities of Detroit and Philadelphia, and I personally cannot think of a greater way to reward you. Please... I don't want to waste any more time... please say yes. Watching them silently the two men glanced at one another. Juggalo's eyes rolled upward towards the ceiling in thought while Bi-Polar took the other route, staring at the table as if it he could set it on fire with his mind. After what seemed to be an eternity the two turned their glances upon each other and smirked. That's a yes, right? Marietta asked as calmly as she could. "Yes, definitely," Juggalo said, Bi-Polar nodding in agreement. Perfect, she said, feeling a smile spread across her face. The plan was falling into place. Just then Henry, unable to contain his curiosity, came wandering timidly into the dining room. Shuffling up to his Aunt he leaned in and whispered, "Who are they?" These two men, Henry, are some associates of mine. This is Juggalo and this here is Bi-Polar_Bear. Tell them congratulations, little buddy, because they just became two very important men. |
