Yes Dear Started by: Zoey on Oct 13, '08 21:50
Zoey stood at a street corner waiting for a bus to arrive. A few other people were waiting next to her. A man and woman she assumed were a married couple were talking to each other.

"Dear, when we get home I think you should play catch with little Timmy."

"I'm too God damn tired to play catch with him. Isn't it enough that I work all day to put food on the table?"

"Yes Dear."

Their conversation was impossible for Zoey to ignore. She took a step away from them, but still heard the man barking orders at the woman.

"I want steak for dinner tonight."

"Yes Dear."

Suddenly Zoey felt sick. She ran to the nearest alley and threw up.

"Hey, are you ok Zoey?"

An associate of the young woman's was standing in the alley. Zoey nodded at him and looked around. She saw a few other mobsters. She felt slightly embarrassed they saw her get sick, but tried not to show it as she smiled at them. The conversation she heard on the corner and a few other things she heard recently went through her mind. She decided to ask the group in the alley for their thoughts about it.

I was always taught by my parents and people I do business with public discussion is important. It's what keeps our streets alive. Even debates, as long as they are respectful, are appreciated on the streets, but earlier today a few of you guys might have heard people suggest it's wrong for a Right Hand Man to disagree in public with the leaders policies.

Do you guys think those of us wearing italic suits shouldn't share our opinions if they are different from the leaders? Should we be mindless and quiet yes men?

I don't fucking think so.

I will always support my boss, follow her orders and obey the rules of the mafia, regardless if I personally agree with them or not, but I will not be a mute. I don't always agree with my friends and sometimes I agree with people I don't like very much. It's not disrespectful to disagree. It's being honest, not being a fake ass kisser. Those kind of people literally make me sick.

I say this all depends on who picked you and why. I know me personally if I I became CL and pointed a RHM it would be because we both think the same and I don't have to worry about saying this and this is the rules and read later my RHM is going I don't think its fair omg that's so wrong. Then im going to come back and be like bitch you don't think what i'm doing right then wtf are u even here.

But then I guess your CL could pick you because you disagree. You know

Either way reflection of RHW or RHM show more than some gangster in the same family. If she is saying something goes and your out in the street bitching about it. I don't think that is too cool and maybe thats something you should take up with them. Not out in the streets crying and getting sick over it.
Report Post Tip
Maybe I should take it up with them and not out here on the streets? Unbelievable!

Zoey shook her head. She couldn't believe what she heard.
Report Post Tip
I can't believe it either, to be honest.

If I'm a CL, you know what I would call a RHM or RHW who thinks exactly like I do and never doubts or questions what I say?

Useless. Absolutely useless.

I submit that any leader who appoints a second in command that will only support everything they do is one of three things: intelligent enough to need no assistance (and suffering from too much pride, probably), a lack of confidence in themselves, or a lack of intelligence.

What use is a RHM who exists only as a mirror to their leader?

Rather, how much more valuable is a RHM who has established themselves as an individual and is willing to discuss their differing opinions with their Boss to ascertain the proper action for the family?
Report Post Tip
I would like to distinguish, in advance, the RHM who acts as an individual in providing a different opinion, whether it be in the streets or in private discussion, from an RHM who runs to the street and disrespectfully states something like "My boss is stupid and is wrong here".

The former is preferable, at least to me. The latter is unacceptable.
Report Post Tip
Overhears what the people of the streets were chattering about. Always nice to hear some juicy details. After overhearing what was said, Oops decided that he needed to speak his mind. Luckily enough, he was no RHM and was in no mood to be crucified for sharing his thoughts.

Don't you think that CL's are entitled to the same laws that were given to all man, being that they also are allowed to make mistakes? And who better to advise them on any venture? The common thug?

Now Grim, I do understand your views on having certain matters discussed within the four walls of the CL's study. But the streets are there so everyone can voice their opinion. That includes the civilian all the way up to the Don him/herself.

This is America where we are all entitled to our own opinion. Like Zoey mentioned "It's not disrespectful to disagree."

As for you seeing yourself as a CL with those views, I gotta say, If you wanted someone to agree with every comment, you would be better off getting yourself a monkey. Scratch its head, throw it a banana from time to time as you would get the same result. And from what I hear, you could even teach one to shoot.

Now these RHM have given their all to their Leaders and their families. And for me to have different views from my friends and family only assists in the ability to learn, take note, practice and better myself. These men and woman strive to better this society. Not for their own personal gains and I'm sure you know that there have been some who have tried just that. Didn't end up so well did it?

I welcome the fact that we get to hear what our bosses and RHM/LHM think. If they just kept their mouths shut we may be doing something far less constructive.

That monkey doesn't sound like such a bad idea, Oops hurries off to find himself one.

Zoey I think it all depends on our core values and what we know of leadership. I will be frank about this. There are lots of guys in this thing of ours that are simply not leaders. Such a bold statement I know but its true.

Its true that we must follow our boss' orders but that does not mean we must agree on everything. To blindly agree to everything your boss says isn't something new in this thing of ours. I see it all the times in the streets. If anything blindly agreeing with everything is more harmful than not. Why you may ask? Simple. A boss starts out like everyone... a civilian. No boss is born into the position with all knowing knowledge. We make mistakes and we learn from them. Its how personalities and values are molded and its who you are.

Now as an example... lets say the boss decides to put more resources into more protection meaning more bodyguards. The idea behind all of this is that with more bodyguards the boss will be better protected. So the LHM and RHM agree. With time as more and more money is being put into bodyguards the don is well protected but the family is recieving less and less income. The focus is simply on protection but not income. With time a war breaks out and the family structure is the first to go... why? Because with all the money going into more protection, there wasn't enough going into expanding the HQ and recruiting more members. So what happens? In the end without the family support the don is backed into a corner with his or her BG. One straight shooter is enough and BAM. Down goes the don. So how could we have prevented this? A difference of opinion on whats more important? Had anyone disagreed with the boss' stand who knows maybe she or he would have seen the situation from a totally different view. She would probably never have thought about expanding the HQ instead of constantly getting more BG.

I know its probably not the best example but the point is clear. We need difference in opinions. It lets us view any situation from different perspectives and it invites growth and outside of the box type thinking. In the end the choice is the boss' but thats another story. To disagree with your boss does not mean you dont support them or you dont love them or whatever. It simply means you want it to improve so you offer a different view.

Not everyone sees it like this. They are too scared of getting whacked so they go on with the masses and agree. I think Marietta is an excellent leader from what I have seen but I do know she is not perfect. We help her more in offering our opinions than we do staying quiet and not speaking up.

"There are lots of guys in this thing of ours that are simply not leaders. Such a bold statement..."

Well played, sir. Well played indeed.
Report Post Tip
Maybe alot of you misinterpret what i was saying or maybe I didn't word it where you's guy's could understand. I don't see it wrong to disagree with your boss. I just think its only right for a RHM to back you especially in the streets.

I mean not saying anyone has done this but lets say you have a RHM or W and they talk smack about you in the streets or saying what you did was a bad idea. Would you not have had that in your MM than out in the public. Thats what im getting at.

And I heard another speech aimed at me saying I need a monkey. Believe it or not I don't need one. Me and all my friends on here agree on almost everything if not everything. I have yet to say something to them or them to me and we don't agree. Maybe you feel there is a need for monkey's but I don't need this.
Report Post Tip
Grim you are bringing something else entirely into the discussion. I agree smack talking is frowned upon and may even bring death to the individual but that is not what is happening. You even stated yourself that you are not saying anyone has done that so why bring it up?

No one is smack talking any boss. Disagreeing with your boss even publicly is not smack talking. Smack talking is going around saying, "my boss is such an idiot because he or she did this and that blah blah blah."

THAT is smack talking. As long as the RHM or RHW is still following orders then I see nothing wrong in offering a different view or perspective. The RHM or RHW shows support for their boss by following their orders and enforcing them whenever necessary. That is supporting.

As for having it out on public I see nothing discriminating with that. You are not revealing your family structure or any inside secrets. One person disagreeing with another means nothing. We all disagree at one point or another. Now not following orders is different. It sends a different message. Zoey would easily whack any of us who step out of line and not follow orders. She still supports the boss.
Report Post Tip
Most definitely the latter. A re-wording would suffice.

Now you do agree that its alright for a RHM and LHM alike to voice their opinions.

I mean not saying anyone has done this but lets say you have a RHM or W and they talk smack about you in the streets or saying what you did was a bad idea.

Speculation. Heresy. The big what IF? This all started with Hi's views which then lead to remarks made to force another RHM's views which again is misunderstood due to people jumping to conclusions, because they did not get the entire conversation.

To be clear, NEITHER have blatantly smashed the images of their CL's. Nor did they talk smack as you put it. Yes, I do suppose its a topic that can be argued and a great one at that.

But after hearing what you had to say with regards to Hi's conversation, I am starting to think that the monkey is YOU Please help think otherwise and get on with whats needed.

What part is that. Where I agreed with my father Black? That makes me the monkey?

A Right Hand Man (RHM) only answers to one person in our rank system of our world and this is his Boss. I believe a RHM can speak whatever they want, aslong as they have a amazing understanding with their leader and co worker. The bond and trust must be there, and the understanding that even though they might disagree on some topics, and not be afraid to do so that they will be there in time of need and do their job to the best of the abilities no matter how they personally feel.

You have to be careful when speaking in the public when you are in power, and in a position of public eye. Everything you say is looked at with a mircoscope.. now if you care or not is another story.

Hands Zoey some stomach pills and wanders down the block to get some lunch

I was brought up in this world to believe that whatever your family head says is what goes. If they tell you white is black, it is so. If they tell you your friend is your enemy, it is so. If they tell you to abide by a rule, you do it. IMHO to question a leaders judgement publicly is showing a sign of disrespect, to do it to your own leader is a true slap in the face to them. As a right hand, when you disagree with your family head it is portrayed as a sign of weakness, not only that but when a right hand questions the judgements of their own leader, the other members within that family may get confused as to whether or not they can question their leaders judgements too. Is this the type of message we want to be giving the members in our families?

People speak about opinions as if it's ok to have them, although this may be a vocal place, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you need to display it publicly. Are you here to have opinions? Or to follow your leader in whatever they do, even if you feel that what they do in the first place is wrong? Even if it leads to your death? Loyalty isn't just acting in war and the like, it's knowing when to speak up and when to stay silent.

I regard Hi as someone who has a very broad knowledge for this thing of ours, he knows the ins and outs better than most but I'm shocked to find that he has made a public statement questioning a rule that was introduced by all the current leaders, including his own. I wonder why he didn't simply advise rather than question and why this wasn't done in a more private manner. Due to his father and the rest of his lineage I'm sure a lot of the current leaders would have respected some advise from him if it was brought forward in a more private manner.

Anywho I felt it my duty to come here and defend my leaders past, present and future judgements, even if it be from their very own right hand men/women. What he says may not please me, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

You took the words right out of my mouth, now give them back so I can say it as eloquently as you have today.

Right hands have their own voice but it is our responsibility to show support and family unity in public. Sure we don't agree with everything our boss decides, but who are we, of ALL people to call them out in public about it?

We don't walk around applying liberal coats of lip balm, but we sure as hell aren't supposed to go and question them in public. In private, behind closed doors, that is fine. But in the Streets for all to see?? What sort of unity is that showing?

The Streets are a place of interaction but it seems some have forgotten that there is a food chain here and we aren't all on an equal level.

Pepe, you warm my heart dear.... Now please, take a bath in tomato juice so I can stand being within 10 feet of you.

Thanks for your input, Pepe and tiggy. You made me realize a few things I hadn't thought of before.

Zoey turned towards Striphe before he walked away.

I like what you said about our words being under a microscope. I'll try to remember that next time I talk in public. It's just a little hard to control my big mouth sometimes. I blame my parents for that trait.
Report Post Tip
I'm glad I read through all the posts before replying to this. At first I wanted to side with Zoey, as I believe everyone should be allowed to voice their opinions. But Tiggy, you made some great points, and made me rethink my opinion on this issue.

RHM should not have to completely agree with their leaders. Who wants to work with someone exactly like them, completely silent, not giving any input? I would prefer someone who can think for themselves, and offer new ideas. But as far as family or community issues brought about by your boss, I would have to say it is better to keep it in private if you disagree.
Report Post Tip
Pepe, I would never contradict my leader in public on anything significant. You are making an assumption that all leaders (1)took part in this decision, and (2)supported it. They did not.

The only other comment I have in regards to your statement is your mention that...

...when a right hand questions the judgements of their own leader, the other members within that family may get confused as to whether or not they can question their leaders judgements too.

Really? You think some members see themselves as having the same status as the RHM? Idiots aside, I doubt that. But then, we do have a surplus of idiots, so I can understand how it would be an issue.

Hi, this is an extract from a recent announcement made by Cab:

"Any member of our community that is still homeless after the war may be shot; the war ended October 06, 04:32 when Messy bit the dust by my reckoning and as far as the other crew leaders and I are concerned they have been given ample time to find a family.

Takes out a cigar, bites off the stump and pulls a light from his pocket. Looking into the afternoon sun he pauses and draws on the burning tobacco....

In an effort to mix things up, this is going to be the approach we will take when dealing with unsponsored gangsters.

They will have 5 days to attempt to integrate into our community, make a few dollars and find themselves a home. If they choose to remain unsponsored over 5 days, they will become legitimate targets.

If at any time during these 5 days, they commit any of the following crimes they will void their protection."

Now in my opinion from when he uses the words "the other crew leaders and I" every other sentence that contains the word "we" would understandably come across as meaning that very same group. So you can see where this assumption has come from...
