Marietta walks briskly to the usual corner of Main and Third Streets, pulling the discarded and old soapbox from it's place in the nearby bushes and placing it prominently in front of the street signs. She steps on board, casting an angry glance out at the crowd before biting her bottom lip. Hello, she greets the small, gathered crowd of mobsters that begin to make their way over to where she stands. I do not come with good news today, I'm afraid. The men and women continue to flock towards her anyway, coming to a silent stance in front of her. She looks down at them all for a moment, taking a deep breath and holding it in. At last Marietta lets it out with a soft sigh, clearing her throat gently. Yesterday morning I just so happened to hear the phrase "that's not mafia-like", about one of the ideas I had come up with regarding something or other. Yes, I am not stupid in realizing that a lot of the things I do or say are not related to the 'mobster' lifestyle in any way, but that does not mean that I do not hold the truest ideals of 'This Thing of Ours' closest to my heart. The Mafia. When people like yourselves hear this phrase many words spring to your minds I'm sure; many believe that this structure is a belief system based off of honor, loyalty, respect. I personally believe that of all the qualities the 'mafia' embodies, the most important one that one can abide by is family. Family. Marietta pauses before casting her gaze downwards in thought. When she raises them to face the crowd once more they can see her face has transformed from her good-natured stare into a stern and severe gaze. Family is the most important thing you will have in this world. Without them, you do not rank. Without them you do not get to enjoy many of the perks of this world, such as unity, money, any of that. You usually die if you do not have one. I think it is safe to say, that without family you do not live. It perplexes me how people- people who are generations deep within this lifestyle- have not yet figured out that this is the heart of the matter. All other 'mob' attributes aside, it's family that will be there from your first breath of air in this life until your last days on Earth. So what is a Mob Boss, rather, a Don to do when they learn that some of theirs have been 'less than faithful' in the line of duty? And not only that, members they had trusted enough in most cases to give those oh-so-cherished 'button' promotions to? Well, of course many would expect said Don, who had been accused of being 'not mafia-like', to look the other way. Bat her eyelashes a few times and pray that everything would work out in the end, because it's not her style to get angry or hurt when one of her own turns their back on the family. Oh no. Oh not at all. This Don, who happens to be me if you haven't figured it out yet, will be taking a very traditional stance against those who have treated her poorly and taken her for a fool. I do not like rule breakers, but I look down upon those who commit acts of betrayal even more. Those of you who are in a family, treat them well. Misdeeds have a way of coming back to bite you in the ass, and they can only serve to cost you your life. Taking a deep breath she casts a softened gaze over the crowd, which had grown in size since when she began. I know this is a fairly short address, but I hope the point will be emphasized to you all. Family; family should always be your number one. Not your own personal agenda, not your own selfish platform. And certainly not those nice seeming ladies and gentlemen you meet in the dark backrooms of the coffee-shops. Family. Not finding any words to close off the rest of her speech, Marietta merely nods her head, stepping off of the soapbox and stumbling a few feet away towards her bodyguard Pedro, who is holding for her a freshly barbecued hamburger. |

I remember a fateful day way back when, i did something to disgrace my family. Skulls was my leader, and i had stained our family name by calling coughs someone a bitch. As it was, he saw fit to place the cement shoes around my ankles and drop me into a harbor. I do not blame him for this, it was his right... no, more of his duty to ensure that the good name of his Family came first, before one of his Made Men. As it should be. As it was, i came back to this thing of ours, and re-joined him, my respect for him doubling in the process. Now yes, at first i was a little peeved, however i realized, like many people should today, that the family comes first. He was just doing what he had to do to make no doubt in peoples minds that he was the man with the iron fist. As it should be. Anyhoo, I'm going to stop ranting and go make some more money at the casino, ourvoir. |

And being a petty gangster and watching your mouth when speaking to a don in the street, will save you a lot of time. Learn some respect when you speak to a don kid. You are in no postion or authoity to question the descions or actions of a Don. |

You questioned her actions by suggesting she should have said one sentence instead of her speech about family. Your words here and in VagInATube's funeral were sarcastic and disrespectful. I guess that gets you a laugh in some coffee shops. |

| You entire approach was disrespectful, She is a Don Family leader, and you come to the street as a lowly gagnster fresh off the boat. Act like you have some common sense (i know it may be hard) and treat the Don with the respect she has earned and deserves. | |

Ya know, normally i like to disagree with Prem, but his words are generally right. In this case, they are entirely right. It would be wise to listen to him. He knows what he's doing obviously, or his FAMILY wouldn't have let him get to Capo. Congrats on that btw Prem. |

Hmm. Massive ego? Yes, Prem does have that. You want to know what else he has? A very well respected history in this thing of ours, Superted... I don't think i've ever heard of him. Prem? Yes, i've heard of him. People who are well known are generally respected for one thing or another. I'd say, by the end of this debated ted, you'll be known, but for another reason. Who cares about laughs in some coffee shops? This got me no laughs at all. I'm only a Gangster and as such have very few contacts. As a result I attend very few and evidently did not amuse any of those individuals any more than it did me. The death of one so elevated in our profession is always a sad state of affairs. Was your guess more general? I see nothing disrespectful in my eulogy for VagInATube, the words I said were not for Marietta. His name is in the obituaries, it is clear how he is viewed by his former family leader. He was a Boss. Made Men were being given auth, he was seeking auth and thus he was being looked over. I do not know how my eulogy, which is virtually a statement of fact, could be viewed disrespectfully. I also only stated my sentence would have saved us all time. This statement corresponded with the death of a Boss in her family. I merely offered advice for a busy Don. If it came across disrespectfully, as you can see, I had no idea it would be received in such a way. Once I managed to decipher what Premier meant (I have trouble with his accent) I looked for an explanation as to how my words could have been taken in such a way. As for sarcasm, I will require further explanation. Where have I been sarcastic? I fail to see how my approach was disrespectful or sarcastic, however if it has been perceived in this way, allow me to express my heartfelt apologies. It was not my intention. Advice from you kind individuals is appreciated and I will take it to heart. Thank you all. |
