| MR: Tournament Edition | Started by: BlackBlack on Jan 14, '13 06:23 |

I remember playing a game a long time ago which was bascially a nation building game. There was a full version of the game and a short version called Tournament Edition (TE).
Basically the TE was a version where everything was cheaper and the game was really fast paced and had a winner at the end of it.
I think it would be really cool is MR bought out a TE version. It should be relatively similar.
Basically, in order to join it you have to have a character on the main game, and each player is only allowed to enter one player in the TE (ie if you get shot you are out). The game could last for 1 month at a time, with leveling requiring half the experience and thinking costing 1/4 of what they do in the main game. Limit the family sizes to 5 players and the number of families to 3 per city. Then, one week before the torney ends you turn it into last man standing mode and stop letting people join the game. First, each city would go to war with eachother with the winning city being the last one standing, and the city closing down immediately when each player who has it set as home is killed. Once there is one city remaining the members (dead and alive) or each of those cities gets a small prize (maybe a month of PP proficiency or DFP stackng?) then each othe the families go head to head with the winning family gaining a better prize (maybe timers?) then each of the famil members goes head to head and the final player standing is the winner.
It is only a basic idea and obviously needs to be refined but I think it is a cool way to keep people intersted in the main game also. by them further competing in the TE they can gain exp for their main game character etc. and by making it only available to people who play the main game it will increase player retention I think.
Any feedback?

I don't think the userbase is currently large enough to implement this as you'd find the majority of people would put all their time and effort into one version thereby splitting the userbase in half. |

i see what you mean, however as mentioned it would only be available to members of the full version, perhaps only made members? its more to add a less serious and more action based version... if people neglect the current version they will be left behind in the full game. then if they get shot will have to become made again before rejoining :P |

Personally, I would be very keen to see a streamlined, less arduous version of the game available again as has been suggested previously. |

I personally like the idea, it's something that would be fun for those who don't want to put in too much time. But as Flash said, we don't have the user base size for it. It would split our players and both versions of the game would then fail. |

I think it's a great suggestion but the splitting of the userbase is a giant concern as has been stated...
Perhaps we could find a solution to that... What if the 'streamlined' version only ran one week a month or something? Instead of having a constantly-running tournament edition you could actually have a weeklong tournament running along side MR... Ranks go much faster, all timers shortened extremely etc etc |

Even then a large portion of the players would ONLY play that version. |

Not if you have activity requirements on the full version. Like only Made members can compete? |

That would only lead to numerous IA Made members waiting for the next "TE" to start. |

I think its a good idea, but as noted already there really isn't a large enough userbase for it. |

Toby the thing is tho is IA MM get shot by CL then can't continue playing.
I honestly don't think it would split the user base, in the other games i have seen it done in it doesn't steal members, it compliments them. See the thing is, because it is fast and short term, the payers who are just playing that don't really see much reward, more people would play it to reward their main game account.
I like the 2 week game type with 2 weeks off maybe. But I see the point. You guys make about splitting the user base. Although I personally think it will increase it. |

Also, let me say, this would require WAY more time code wise, and admin time than we are willing to devote to it. But its something to keep in mind for the far future once MR has grown. |

I don't think we should have two sides of the game. We need to focus on this one. |
