Demotions affect your gun Started by: Zyzz on Mar 07, '13 16:18

So i got to talking with a friend on IRC about the current problem of people demoting to get IWP. Obviously a demotion affects your units as it's essentially rewinding you back to a lower rank, but why can't it affect your gun as well?

However i'm pretty sure as an example if a % (or even all of the kills a persons ammassed between their rank and demoted rank) are taken away this will heavily reduce a persons incentive to take the demote.

Also makes it much harder for families to just demote their hitters and make them IWP with the same amount of kills.

Probably haven't explained this very well as in a rush but essentially if you demote all the way to gangster all the kills from gangster to your current rank are devlaued, say by 50%. However if you just get a demote to wise guy, all the kills made between wise guy and your current rank are devalued whilst the kills you made from gangster to wise guy are kept the same.

Will make it more tactical as well as people will have to work out where is the best place for them to demote to with regards to their amount of kills vs the cost of BGs etc.

Definately haven't explain this very well i don't think, but thoughts?

Many of us have said this for a long long time! The only problem now is, with so many people IWP already, is it fair to punish the newer players like this.

This should have been implemented a long time ago :)

If a demotion effects your gun, then we need to dramatically lower the cost of BGs. THe cost of the BG is dramatically more than what it was to please the players who felt it was unbalanced prior, so we upped the amount of sacrifice. To take more means it has to come from somewhere, so to redistribute the sacrifice to gun skills, we would have to remove it from the cost of getting BGs.

So lets say we now have it balanced, where we figure out the amount of work required for XX dollars veruss amount of work required to to re-do that skill. Now the problem is that cant be applied evenly, what if someone doesnt work their gun?

This system just doesnt work as propsed without some refinement.

A question though, why would a demotion effect your shooting skill?

For example, I'm a Marine, and a Master Marksman. I hold the rank of Captain. I smack a Major in the mouth because his stupidity got some of my men killed. I get 2 weeks in the Stockade and busted down to Lt. Does the Military sneak into the stockade in the middle of the night and remove part of my gun skill?

Its been said time and time before, the only fair and realistic way to make demotion for BGs stop, is to make it no longer financially viable to demote people to give them BGs.

This isn't about, does it make sense Raoul.. Since when did it make sense to take a demotion for Bg? You make a valid point about the prices.

I understand that Squishy and it's not something that needs to be changed.. If one person can do it, so can everyone else which leaves it on a fair playing ground. Changing things for the sake of it would most likely just cause more hassle for you than it's worth ;)

It's just something many people over many years have wanted to see >.>

Just because something already in the game doesn't make sense, doesn't mean that future changes don't have to make sense. I'd love to see the whole demotion for bgs stop, but not by implementing something that makes even less sense.

Demoting has been abused for long time. You shouldnt be let  be demoted below Made man in the first place
