As you know, the new district feature includes the feature that every district has its own Godfather. But is that really a good thing? I mean, before this, the Godfather rank was the rank of a top dog, the leader of a city. Now, a Godfather means merely a leader of a district, which made it much less prestigious than before. I mean, if I one day get to be a Godfather, and I know everyone shares this opinion, I don't want four more Godfathers in the same city with me. I want to be the only one.
When I asked Squish about it in the announcement of districts thread, his reply was:
If that is the case, then why not let the leaders of a city (and possibly all users as well) vote for the one to be the Godfather?
Then, why don't you remove the rank altogether? Today's mob (in New York at least) doesn't have one defined leader, they have the commission. Same thing could be done here. Don could be the top rank, and a Don would be a leader of a district. There would be no Godfather. This sounds (reads) like a change in name only, but as all this time the Godfather meant the city big boss, and now that the rank of one city big boss has been eliminated, why don't you eliminate the name of the rank too? |

This does sound like a good idea, except if you have ever seen the GF movies, they call their leader The Godfather. He might be just a Don, but it's a term of respect. And also from a game stand point, that would mean that everyone would need to go down in rank. If Don was the equivalent of GF, then it would make consig the cap for everyone else. |

"The Godfather" is the name created by Mario Puzo specifically for the book and the movie. |

I understand the reasoning behind the thread and the issues you see with it, but is it really something that requires a hardcoded change?
In reality (in the context of the game), the role of Godfather and the rank of Godfather are independent. As Man_Go said, a Don could easily be assuming the role of Godfather in a city (or even across every city if they so wished) if there was nobody with the strength to stand against them. In a similar way, now that we have districts at play, a single GF could be completely dominant over all districts in their city even if someone else within that city holds a rank titled Godfather.
I'm not saying your suggestion/comments are wrong, I'm just saying that as players we have the ability to roleplay the game any way we see fit. It might not always tie in perfectly with some of the logistics of ranks the likes (e.g. a Boss is a role, not a 'rank'... technically anyone not heading a family or at least with responsiblity for members of a family shouldn't hold it), but if something can be roleplayed by us as the players I'd always prefer us to keep control of it than have the admins/gods hardcode a fixed solution that we must adhere to. |
