Changes/Additions to Districts Started by: Artorem on May 01, '13 15:49

I realize the District feature is new, but I'm unaware of exactly how it's going to change in the future. Therefore, I propose a few alterations:

Locals
I propose we start to treat each District with a bit more individuality by limiting locals to the district you're currently in. In my opinion, districts aren't really "close" enough to each other that someone should be able to identify everyone in that district from across town. For the sake of realism and making things a bit more difficult for people to track someone down (presently, four people could locate every player in the game), I'd like to see it require a bit more work.

Attacks
You probably knew what was coming next. Yes, I suggest we restrict the ability to attack (Wack, BG Wack, Pickpocket, Attack Fort [I'm not as familiar with this one, it may already be restricted to district?]) to your current district. The reasoning for this is essentially the same as Locals; how on earth is someone shooting a gun across town and killing people? Just seems like it would follow logically that we divide up a city into districts and then use them to provide more "locations".

Witness Statements
If attacks and locals are restricted to District, I'm also proposing we restrict Witness Statements to only people in your district. This is perhaps the most important change for me, because I feel that the the reduction in cities has had an adverse effect on sabotage and stealth activities.

Fortification
Like I've already stated, I'm not sure if this is already in place, but I also think Fortification protection should only extend to crew members when they're currently in their home district.

I don't know if these are already in the process of being implemented (they seem like the logical conclusion from introducing districts). If so, disregard this post. If not, I encourage making districts a more important part of our lives. It may add a few steps to certain activities, but I think it's worth the time.

Pros: Realism. I can't stress how unrealistic it is to shoot people across town. Plus, individuality and value given to the districts. Currently, they're in place simply to allow more Godfathers in a city. The old way was "One Godfather - One City". Since that's not applicable anymore, I say we make it "One Godfather - One Location", and give each district its own distinction.

Cons: More effort. In order to shoot someone in South Philly, you have to actually go to South Philly. If you want to see who's in South Philly, you have to go to South Philly. But even then, it's a 5-minute train ride. Considering how low the transport times between Districts currently is, I fail to see why this can't be implemented.

I believe all these changes will be put in once Districts are in full effect, mate. This is just Districts-lite that we are running on now :D

Why are we adding more districts if they aren't even "done" yet?

Report Post Tip

Well, I believe it is to slowly introduce the user base to the idea of how the game will work with districts. Especially, considering the entire districts package comes with more extreme visuals and a stat drop and what not.

You don't just plonk a goldfish into the water. You let the packet sit in the water for a while.
