Does anybody know why is a criminal organization also called an outfit? I know that outfit means clothes but what does it refer to in, for example, Chicago Outfit? | |

I believe it refers to a military group. Kinda like a platoon. |

One of the definitions out "outfit" is: a group associated in an undertaking requiring close cooperation, as a military unit. |
