Ameileah: I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but to fall on the safe side, I will reply as if you were. Simply put, yes, he should have. He should have already had places set aside in other crews (or for his RHM to setup if he was of rank yet) for all his members. This agreement should have been set in place the moment he purchased his HQ. He should have contact information for his entire crew. As soon as he realized he died, or someone in his crew realized it, the crew should have buzzed to life. Every IM should have been sent, every ICQ, Every MSN, every IRC PM, every email, every SMS. A few moments of preparation before hand would have saved hundreds of hours of his members hard work that is destroyed because no one could take a few moments to put a plan into action. So I end this with a question for you; Did the hundreds of hours put into the accounts of his crew not outweigh the few minutes it takes to gather contact information for his members for exactly this event? |

If I had a million dollars, I'd buy a panda bear and strangle it with my bare hands. I bet you weren't going to say that. |

Ameileah, the simple fact is this. SWYW is not responsible for another leader's members, whether they be alive or dead. He could have made provisions while he was alive in the event of his death. He didn't. He could have been more forthcoming in his communications and interactivity with other leaders. He wasn't. Why should Singyboy risk the lives of his own crew to enforce some grace period for a family that he didn't know? Say his RHM or one of his other higher-ups dies shooting at somebody who's offed an unsponsored ex-member, then the price of this whole thing suddenly shoots up. New members are given a whole day before they start getting shot at, and that is only because it is physically impossible to shoot at them sooner. I don't see why the members of a mute leader should be given any kind of grace period. It's a dog eat dog world out there, this is the mafia, not playgroup. |

I don't believe that preparation needs to be made. I mean, that's one option. But in all the letters I've read of my father and cousins and uncles about their life in the mafia, one thing seems apparent: You have to EARN everything. And that includes this protection. I think if he had the time to prove himself to the other leaders, his family would have been safe. Some may say he didn't have time, some may say he didn't make an effort. No one can really know, but the only opinion that matters is that of the leaders. I am sorry for the members of Rancid's family that have passed. But my point is that a respected leader's family is protected. One who has not proven himself may not have that luxury. I do applaud Elana's attempt to keep his family safe. She did her best to save his family for him. That, to me, means Rancid did something right. He just may not have had the time to continue his path and extend himself to the other leaders. |

I know preparations don't need to be made, but they can be made. And you're totally right about earning your protection. The simple fact is that a lot of people who were in Rancid's crew will already have a new home. Those who have lots of friends will always do better than the loners, simple fact. Sure, some will end up dead, some already are, but that's just life. We've all gotta go sometime. |

Just days ago you, and your peers, offered protection to many people with absolutely no ties to your respective organizations, no? You owed them nothing, they had proven nothing. You simply made the decision to protect them, as they had nowhere to go at the time. Now, obviously, it's a different situation today, and I'm not saying your decision is right or wrong. In fact, I'm not saying that about either decision. Just saying that a precedent does, in fact, exist. Reply by: RonMexico at Oct 17, '07 08:09 Yes, when there were no crews to join. There is now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well SWYW, perhaps you didn't know Rancid well. But you knew a lot of his crew including me well. So if your reasoning is that you didn't know him, should we then assume that if a CL dies whom you do know well, their members will receive protection? Rancid had had barely time enough to get his HQ up and going and filled, obviously not enough time to get to know all CLs and he set up during the war because he knew as Oliver MacTavish said "the more CLs, the more pressure". It used to be a standing thing that for 24 hours anyone with a tag would not be shot. I am thoroughly disgusted that that is a thing of the past. Reply by: ElanaDeLuca at Oct 17, '07 09:52 Was it not HIS fault that he died? Before you go persecuting me for not rectifying his mistake. He never even made an effort to get to know me. I don't think I even got so much as a "hi". |

While I hate to see innocent people die just because they have become unsponsored... I personally don't think that it is SingWhenYoureWinning's responsibility to protect Rancid's ex-members. He has stated that he didn't know Rancid, he had no relationship of any kind with him. If there is room in the families to take in homeless, and the leaders are generous enough to take them into their homes... why should SingWhenYoureWinning be expected to give orders for no one to shoot when he never did any business with Rancid. I think that responsibility should fall with who gave him auth, and/or the leader/s who had loyalties to him. Not a total stranger. |
