Business District Controls Started by: Moira_Hayes on Aug 06, '13 18:08

I would like to suggest that business owners in the districts have some kind of control over posts in their businesses.  Story lines can get stalled or abandoned, and to just change the direction without resolution is extremely disruptive to the flow of a business.  I would like to propose that business owners have the ability to wack replies to the threads so that story lines can be restarted, backed up, or completely erased in favor of more productive RPing.  The "BOOT! Replier" option is great for spammers, but does little to help when a story line gets stalled out.

Even if this level of control can't be given to each business owner, could the city Godfather or RH have the ability to do so at request?  I think it would keep a lot of businesses from getting a few posts then disappearing into nothing.  Also, as most cities have a person who watches over the business district, why not let that person be designated and given the ability?

Thank you.

I agree with this suggestion. I would also propose that to keep from penalizing people who have posts deleted due to inactivity or stalled storylines, that unless they are BOOT!ed from the thread, that their post count remains the same and any experience points gained from the post also remain. The only changes would be cosmetic to the thread to help the roleplayers. Sometimes life gets in the way and we post, but are unable to maintain a rolling dialogue. This way people could un-derail threads in the business district.

I feel there should be limits, as in a number of deleted posts given to a district (based on activity per week) or a number of deleted posts per thread. I don't want the feature to be abused by people who are of the mindset "I just don't want UsernameX to post in my thread." I agree that it should probably be a feature given to the city Godfather or RH to keep from thread owners from abusing the privilege.

PLEASE consider this suggestion. Well done, Moira_Hayes.

Very well done indeed, would hope this would be implemented also

I like this too. There are a lot of different situations where something like this could prove useful. It also seems like something that a business owner should be able to do.

Having had a business that has had many stalled attempts, I do thoroughly agree that a chance to remove a failed entry would be wondrous...

smart thinking Moira. I would say that a member of the city (as one is usually pointed to as the arbiter of business) be selected by the godfathers/CLs, and a position coded in a the Business officer, with that power. Might also be worth looking at setting up some other powers within this office. Maybe give the officer the ability to transfer "ownership" of a business to a next of kin. or to eliminate threads that have not been used in a given time frame, to keep the business districts clear.

I think that doing some of this would allow active business' to be more noticed, and give more incentive to use the BD forums.

I love this idea and agree that the position should be assigned to one person in the city to avoid overuse of the feature. I don't know how difficult it would be to add a business district manager to the code, but I think it would be more beneficial to have that be the person with the control than it would be for the city's godfather/s to deal with it--they have more important things to do.

Good thinking, Moira :)
