| Godfather Crew and Recruiting | Started by: Drunky on Sep 13, '13 19:32 |

The Problem As I See It Last night I crunched some numbers. These may be slightly different today, but not significantly so. There are 387 people on site made man or above. 86 of them are in Godfather families. Every single godfather family on the site is currently ineligible to use the job boards. Therefore, roughly one in four of the site’s potential sponsors/mentors are excluded from attempting to recruit. But that number alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Generally speaking, Godfather crews pick the cream of the crop when they fill up. The most experienced, most dedicated, most active people tend to be swooped up into the 11-man HQ. So it’s more like “the top 25% best potential sponsors in the game are excluded from interacting with new players.” Granted, the captain crew leaders and their hands would generally also be top men. It’s still a huge percentage of the game’s top people that are ineligible at present to help drive recruitment and retain new members. The Solution I Propose Crew leaders in districts with godfathers should have a checkbox: “Allow Godfather family recruitment into this crew.” If they don’t want to use this feature, they don’t have to. When at least one crew leader in the district has checked the box, Godfather families are allowed to use the job board. Sponsors in the Godfather family are given the ability to either: (1) send invitations directly on behalf of any family that has checked the box so that the invitee would directly join the captain crew, or (2) send invites that ignore the 11-man cap, but have a button to transfer their invitee into captain crews that have checked the box, and the godfather’s crew bonus would only apply when the HQ is below its 11-man cap. Whichever one is easiest to code, really. |

I quite like this idea, the only problem with the job board is that you need active sponsors on 24/7 to ensure their jobs are at the top. Now that's easier when you have a lot of sponsors, however if you've just set up a new family, as is the case with Zalitz, with only 3 potential sponsors it can be hard to always have them on 100% of the time. Now i know one way to combat this is to send Made Men to the family to help with recruitment but this basically cuts out the charade of sending a made man (possibly against his will) to go help with recruiting if you can use sponsors from the GF family. Perhaps you could have this so that you can no longer recruit for a family from the GF crew once that family have a certain number of Made Men or something? |

The purpose of sponsors is that someone can initiate a relationship, and maintain it while they train the user. A crew is only on the job board if their sponsor is active at that time, so that a new user can get the training they need from the crew at that moment. I think by having godfather families just grab and place users in other crews bypasses the above two things, which I think are very important. If a member really wants to train new users and grow a family, he currently has every ability to. He can fill his existing HQ. He can start his own family and fill a huge HQ. He can join an existing family and fill their HQ. I really just dont think this feature would help the game. |

| To be frank, initiating a relationship and training users are things that people in my godfather family are itching to do. It's not like the person that uses the job board to place a user in the captain crew is just going to drop them there and forget about it, any more than someone who uses it to recruit into their own crew would do that. "Haha, I've got you, now I'm ignoring you" can be done regardless of where the sponsor is. | |

Honestly, I'm coming at this from the perspective of someone who was really excited about the job board. It was going to be this great feature we could use to get more involved in the recruitment and user-retention process. We could skip the mundane details that everyone has to hear before you can get to the important/interesting stuff. Instead, it has turned out that the main feature of the job board isn't the board itself. It's that there's now a giant wall between the veterans and the users you say you want them interacting with. |

The thing about this is that one of the key differences in being in a GF crew is that the district feels connected to you in a way it doesn't when you're in a Captain's crew. In a GF crew the CL's of the other crews in the district are YOUR CL's captains. They're connected to you. When you're in a Captain's crew members of other district crews feel somewhere in between cousins and competition. In a GF crew they feel like an extension of your family. I would consider recruiting members for my district to BE growing my family.
The setup makes for larger districts getting larger still. This would still be true with Drunky's idea implemented, but less forcefully so as many of your most active people are going to end up in GF crews.
Most of my interaction with my associates (when I had them) was via mm. Being in a different crew forum would not really alter my ability to have a relationship with a recruit. |
