a preventive measure Started by: Philli_stein on Sep 22, '13 15:50

After the big deal with the mugging ban incident, I got to thinking. i've seen more then one good idea get shot down because the worry was that CLs would try to control the feature in one way or another.  so my question to myself was, what can we do to avoid that happening. And from that question came a little idea of mine.

So, allow me to present the concept of:

The Crew leader council, Or CL council for short. Here’s how it would work. Anyone who wears a bold suit would be a member of the CL council, welcome to sit in and comment on council discussions. any time a person writing a suggestion thread, or a CL, or an admin, or really anyone, thinks that there is a worry that a suggestion might be rejected due to CLs not wanting their people to use it, it would go to the council. the council would, in an open forum, speak between themselves, squishy/enkindle, and the originator of the idea. between those people, they would massage the idea until a majority of the CLs approve the idea, at which point it goes to the players and admins.

my hope would be for this to allow more ideas to be accepted/implemented. To avoid any of the issues that occurred from the PC, and because of the level at which these discussions would happen, i don't believe redacted text would be required within this forum.

any thoughts or changes to this idea?

interesting idea, but does it affect admin changes? like those changes that admins create themselfs to make the game better.

Dislike. I'd much rather that we all just understand that this is an open-ended, text-based RPG, and in every RPG sometimes there are members of the group that like peeing in the group's apple juice. When they get caught, drama ensues, and everyone has an (out of character) good time resolving it.

So some features are perceived as aggressive and responded to accordingly? Good. People disagree about how harshly one should react to those features being used? Even better. Maybe we'll even end up with people fighting over the use of the features and whether it was appropriate -- fighting using any of the other aggressive features that might be coded in. That would be interesting, engaging, and fun. That's the sort of thing that keeps me coming back to this site.

We don't need admins or game-sanctioned councils or anything like that to tell us how to use features. Real Leaders will rise up and set policies that work, or don't work. If they don't work, other Real Leaders will rise up and replace those policies. And we'll all muddle through it, and the muddling will be the fun of the game.

I agree with Drunky. Not needed in my opinion.

drunky, I have no issue with any of what you said. But when the issues are such that the admins feel the need to intervene or risk the game being negatively effected (remember, this is a business too) that is when the issues arise. I would rather that the CLs and admins not have to have that fight at the cost of the rest of the players. i'd much rather it get sorted out before it is implemented so that it does not require punitive measures.
