| Tyler and CA gravepissing - A bad example? | Started by: fxggfkjhjgfdds on Nov 11, '13 23:45 |

Hey gang,
I just had a thought, do new-comers get an appropriate view of what was once considered 'grave pissing'? I'm afraid that a tradition of respect in the past is being somewhat tainted towards disrespect in funerals.
I tend to think the durden and CA grave posts are a little vulgar and may set a bad example to newcomers. How can you tell someone to not do something that an NPC does regularly? I'm not suggesting that the role-play elements are flawed, but I bet it is quite confusing to new players. Problem: NPC grave posts might be setting a bad example to newer players. (my suggested) Solutions: 1. Re-write the obit to be slightly less graphic. Not entirely, but slightly more respectful, at least passable. 2. Get rid of the nasty obits 3. Add a visible sign that this post is by an NPC therefore different, maybe a warning to newcomers attached to the post. Thoughts? |

I agree the Durden and CA's funeral posts are disrespectful and should be changed. New players don't know the difference between Jim Howe and a real player. They are just going to see it was okay for Jim Howe to post disrespect and think it's okay for them too. |

My personal thoughts are like in irc, we are supposed to have an appropriate level of behaviour if something stands out at a funeral ca, durden or otherwise should carry a punishment from admins equal to the offence if on irc, streets, ign or in quote. Whether admin jail, a warning or death depending on the depravity of the offence. alternatively is ther a way without massive coding thaty could stop people being able to post at mia, ca, npc funerals |

Good points, BTSP. The suggestion is about the posts that are automatically made by Durden or CA when they wack a player, like this funeral thread http://mafiareturns.com/comm/funeralhome.php?funeralid=568402 The player was wacked by a CA. The NPC Jim Howe shows as the poster. If a real player posted "He spits on the coffin" there was would be an uproar about disrespect. |

I agree that the CA/Durden posts set a bad example. Perhaps there needs to be a clarification of who the FBN agents and TD are. been around more then a few days, and you know durden, but i still don't know all the FBN guys names. So maybe add part of those posts to make it clear that durden is the NPC leader, and that the FBN guys are the FBN guys? |

| New players could see the way an NPC or Durden posts on a funeral and think that because this is a Mafia rpg that it is the correct way to behave but disrespectful players end up in the funeral home often enough. I fully support this suggestion and can not see any visible problem with changing it. | |

The suggestion and some of the replies remind me of shrieking, harpy like mothers who blame GTA for their children's behaviour whilst blissfully ignoring the fact that they, as parents, are responsible. |

I can see where one might be offended at this, but really that's the point isn't it. We don't use Tyler or an corrupt agent as the metric for our own conduct during funerals. We see and identify it as the behavior of the true bad guys in our little world here. While we do partake in criminal activities we also adhere to a strict code of honor- one which the Durden Gang and corrupt agents eschew. In that they do not abide by our ethos they are seen as being on the outside and set apart. We need them (and their abhorrent character flaws) so that we can feel good about ourselves and the things we do. We live within a skewed sense of integrity and privilege; they live as social outcasts and pariahs.
Our own Cl's have the responsibility of curbing grave pissing within their families. By issuing edicts and educating their members that it will not be tolerated for any reason. If someone wants to emulate Tyler then it is up to their own CL to address this matter and redress the offending individual. I for one do not want to see this responsibility handed off to the Gods; I'd rather see it left in the hands of the Crew leaders, where it ultimately belongs. |
