The wind was whirling through the streets of Chicago as Philli_Stein walked he streets of the north side. His hat pulled down low, Philli observed everything around him. A man ducked out of an ally, with a grin on his face, his pocket clearly showing an extra wallet. Off to one side, another man brushed past, and the wallet was gone. The first man walked on, unaware of his loss.
Farther up the street, a man walked out of a shadowy corner, glancing furtively around to see if he'd been spotted, tucking his silenced pistol back under his coat. in the corner, a figure slumped as if asleep.
"Another day, another death, another dollar made and lost. We see these things walking down the streets, and because we're all in the same business, no one sees a thing. That's good. I've done the same, been in those positions.
A CL comes out and speaks, and we listen respectfully, maybe add our agreement, maybe a careful dissension. A nobody comes out, speaks, and people listen, and grouch. Some attempt to stay close to the original topic, discussing respectfully. other choose to flex muscles that need no flexing in public.
An opinion is like a cock. Having one is fine, but please don't shove it down my throat, and down rip on everyone else's.
So here is the question in my rambling. What does it take to write a speech that draws full throated debate without inciting the assholes? We try to speak civilly, and yet theres always someone claiming some hidden agenda, or insulting the speaker for poor english. Why not just accept the speaking for the meaning? and what would it take to offer a little proofreading? Shouldn't those who decry the current level of street speaking be attempting to help those who try, instead of knocking on the speaking that does happen?
Do people just want to shoot down assholes? or are we simple not willing to offer opinions on legitimate, if badly spelled opinions."
Philli leans back against the wall, and lights his pipe to wait until someone replies to his questions

ohai dere. Well, I guess I'll take a stab at this. The major reasons,in my opinion which I will not be shoving down your throat(unless you're into that sort of thing....in which case, call me), I feel that there are a few major reasons why people simply find it easier to keep mum, correct someone's grammar, draw off on another tangent (like I just tried to do with my attempt to engage you in opinion based fellatio) etc etc 1. This applies mainly to the accusations of secret agendas. The accuser genuinely believes that the speaker is trying to pull some wool over the eyes of the public and takes it upon himself/herself to liberate them from this elaborately constructed lie. 2.It's easier. Please don't deny that is infinitely easier to tackle the language or the rank of a certain person than a properly constructed opinion. 3.It's fun. |

Walking down the street, she hears someone discussing a great topic. She stops, listens a little longer, and then offers her opinion. First, you are never going to find a topic that will please everyone. No matter what the topic is, the way it is written, or how respectful it is, someone will always disagree. And there is nothing wrong with that, everyone should be allowed to share their opinion, as long as it is done with respect and tact. As far as writing coherent and interesting threads, again you make a good point. Do we really need to berate and humiliate people in the streets for a not so great thread? Yes, there are some that just deserve to be poked at. But as you said, why not take these mafioso aside, point out the flaws in their speech, and help them out? I think that the streets are lacking at times, because people are afraid of inciting a riot in the streets, or even being made fun of due to their lack of writing skills. I applaud those who do have the courage to come out here and share their thoughts, especially if its a topic that will stir up some great discussion or opinions. Everyone should be able to offer their agreement or opposition to a topic without fearing for repercussions, as long as they are stating their thoughts in a respectful manner. You have a great topic here, I look forward to seeing everyone's thoughts on this. |
