Starting a Riot Started by: MacLeod on Dec 19, '08 21:29
The moon rose over Detroit and cast its reflection down on the river. Leaning with his arms on the bridge, MacLeod smirked and watched the dancing water. Hearing the church bell begin ringing out the 9 o clock hour, he turned with his hands in his pockets and began to walk briskly downtown.

His well worn shoes slapped the pavement as the cement quickly slid past. The lights of the business district lay out in front of MacLeod, but as he followed them to the center of town he quickly ducked out of their glow and headed down an unmarked alley. Following the posthumous instructions of his father, he approached the polished black door and knocked. Waiting and staring at his reflection, MacLeod couldn't help but think of his father, Keats. The old man had always seen himself as a failure- just a continuation of the family line who never amounted to anything. Had himself killed, but before he did he managed to get his son a job with MickeyRourke, who was a good man and a fine leader. The last gift was a scribbled address for an unknown contact in central Detroit. He'd placed all his hope in his only son, and now MacLeod stood outside the door, waiting for whatever would come. The time for reminiscing was over, though, as the door swung open.

Looking down to his right, MacLeod noticed a previous unseen homeless man who was muttering under his breath in some sort of foolish accent. The man had a dirty beard and was wearing a tattered red coat. MacLeod pulled the man to his feet, gave him twenty dollars, and pushed him off towards the nearest tea and crumpet shop. As the derelict denizen shuffled away, MacLeod heard the fading whisper of his rambling... "Wackbacked on a funeral post... of all the rotten luck..."

Aurora was across town over at Mickey's headquarters for their holiday party. Enjoying the company and the surroundings, Aurora was sat with Marietta and Mirage sharing a bottle of wine and reminiscing about friends who had fallen recently. Mirage brought up their good friend Keats and how he suddenly disappeared. He seemed to be depressed in the days before his death, but the girls couldn't figure out why.

I remember Keats saying that his son wanted to get into the business, but that he was a bit hesitant to show him the ropes because of the harsh life that it leads to.Aurora said aloud to which the other two nodded in agreement

Shortly after that conversation, Aurora heard the doorbell. The other family members were in the bar and apparently didn't hear the door, so she got up and walked over to the door. Her bodyguard whom she nicknamed Fish followed closely to her side. Aurora opened the door and saw a young man standing in the cold looking up at her. His face had familiarity in it and she wondered if this could be the son Keats had spoke about before his death.

Hello there young man. Is there something you need?

Smiling slightly, MacLeod took off his hat. His green eyes quickly snapped around the room. It was full of people- a few very famous faces. Collecting himself and unconsciously brushing at his old jacket, he addressed the powerful looking woman who answered the door.

Good evening, ma'm. I'm sorry to bother you- my father had told me to come here. His name was Keats. I'm not sure what exactly he wanted to accomplish by it... I can come back later if you're occupied with something?

While drinking and talking to a few family members in the Relentless HQ Mirage nervously glanced around. Part of her wanted to see the man who made her heart skip a beat, but part of her didn't want to see him. She didn't know if she could control her feelings for him. So far she kept it a secret from the family and wanted to keep it that way.

Mirage went to the bar to get another drink when Aurora went to the door. The Godfather's Right Hand returned moments later with a young man by her side. Mirage saw a resemblance in him to an older man she met once, Keats. She assumed the young man was Keats' son. The apple didn't fall from the tree in their business. Most children of mobsters followed in their parents footsteps.

After the young man was introduced to few people at the party Mirage walked up to him and smiled as she introduced herself.

Hi, I'm Mirage. Welcome to the family.

Aurora looked at the young man as he spoke of his late father, Keats. Confirming her thoughts that this was indeed the man she thought it was she flashed a quick smile at him and extended her hand out.

Hello there, i'm Aurora. We've been waiting for you. I didn't think you'd be here so quickly. Come inside, it's freezing out there.

Aurora opened the door wider and brought the man inside. She made her way over to where Mirage was standing. She had the same look that Aurora had, knowing this had to be the son of the man they were just speaking about prior to his arrival. Mirage introduced herself to the man and it occurred to her that he hadn't said what his name was yet.

What's your name young man? Aurora said to the man, who looked like he was just glad to be inside out of the cold.

Warmly shaking Aurora's hand, MacLeod followed her as she beckoned him inside. Navigating past the tables of well dressed men and women quietly talking, they approached a woman standing at the edge of the bar. She introduced herself as Mirage, and MacLeod's green eyes flashed with recognition. He had heard the name, as well as Aurora's, mentioned in his father's writings. Clearing his throat, he addressed them.

My name is MacLeod- I believe you knew my father, Keats. I'm not sure exactly what sort of relations you had with him- I know he was disappointed with himself. Never thought he lived up to his potential. But he managed to set me up with a job in MickeyRourke's operation and left me a bit of cash. He told me that there were people here that could help me get started... "show me the ropes" I believe was his phrase. Not sure exactly what he meant.

But, I am pretty sure about at least one thing.

With a smirk, MacLeod orders a round of drinks for himself and the two women.

Nice to meet you, MacLeod. Your dad was a great guy. I agreed with everything he ever said.

Mirage finished her drink and waved across the room at a few associates then looked at MacLeod again.

If you want to fit in around here you're going to have to pass a little test. Don't worry. It's not too difficult. Do you see that blond woman sitting over there on the couch?

Mirage pointed across the room at Marietta.

Pick pocket her and take her car keys. Aurora and I want to steal her car. We know a guy who will pay us top dollar for the parts. We'll give you a cut of the dough.

Fixing his tie, MacLeod checked out the blond. She seemed pretty important- surrounded by bodyguards and obviously packing heat. Still, not impossible. Winking at Aurora and Mirage, he sauntered across the room. Approaching the blond, MacLeod pulled up a chair next to her. The bodyguards bristled but the woman calmed them down with a slight movement of her hand. The blond stared at MacLeod for a while, as if trying to place a face with the name. Eventually she gave a slight smile and made eye contact with Aurora and Mirage across the room. After making small talk for a little while, MacLeod spoke up.

Hey... why don't let me buy you a drink at the bar?

The woman nodded and stood up, walking slowly to the bar. Her bodyguards hesitated for a moment, so MacLeod made his move. He quickly slipped his hand into her handbag and grabbed the set of keys. The woman did not reach for her own gun, but instead sent her bodyguards chasing after him. A dozen blocked the door, while the two biggest ones charged after MacLeod.

Thinking quickly, MacLeod darted over by Aurora and Mirage and jumped up on a table. Someone reached out to grab his leg and received one of his well worn shoes to the face. The largest bodyguard jumped up on the table and advanced menacingly towards MacLeod. Collecting himself, MacLeod charged the larger man and dealt him a quick blow to the head. The bodyguard retaliated with a shot that knocked MacLeod onto his back, knocking over the glasses and plates. The larger man bent down to strangle MacLeod, but the resourceful young mafioso unleashed a flurry of punches that sent the bodyguard rolling unconscious off the table. Spying a window a few tables away, MacLeod leaped from tabletop to tabletop and finally launched himself out through the window. The stunned men and women inside could hear his feet hitting the pavement, followed by the sound of car quickly being started and driven away.

Unable to restrain themselves any longer, Aurora and Mirage looked at a confused Marietta and burst out laughing.
