Firing Body Guards Started by: JonnyBeRed on Dec 27, '13 18:45
I would like the ability to fire body guards.

The first question many of you will ask is "why?!" Well, there could be many reasons. To me, the reasons don't matter.

Firing body guards makes sense from an RP standpoint. Either that guard wasn't doing his job well, or the employer fell upon hard times and needed to lower his overhead. Either way, RP is covered.

Firing body guards also takes money out of the game, something that is always a good thing, right? If you don't like shouting, skip the next paragraph.

IT TAKES MONEY OUT OF THE GAME! THAT'S GOOD! APPROVE THIS IDEA BECAUSE MONEY IS TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME!

Anyway, I have my reasons for wanting to fire some of my BGs. I'm sure other people have other reasons to do it. If you don't want to fire them, don't! It's not mandatory!

TL;DR
Make BGs fire-able. It makes sense, and it takes money from the game.

You can shoot your own bodyguards , but then again not everyone does shoot.  So I would say this is a good idea in case someone was to buy too many bgs at once , or if it got too expensive for them in the long run.

I think it'd be a fantastic idea. Sometimes people overestimate how much they can afford, and it becomes too much of a hassle to maintain the upkeep/training.

As to for how much we'd get back for firing them... Well, I'm not entirely sure. I propose getting back half of what you invested in total. Not just half of what you paid for the purchase, but half of what you put in total, including training/upkeep.

I know that the Admins like taking money of the game, and it seems counterproductive to that task for us to receive money for firing BG's, however it'd take all the money out that we'd spend in the future on them for their Upkeep (if fully Trained), and Training, if not already at 100HP.

I don't see a reason not to have this. There are a couple of uses for it, and The chance to remove money from the game is not a bad thing I think

As telkin said, I can't really see firing them costing you all the money you've put into the BGs. But I would say maybe 50-60% of the initial cost+training costs only. That will keep the money flow back into the game to a reasonable amount, and ensure that you have a good reason to fire your BGs not just to get a little cash

But I am for this idea.

I like the idea of firing, but do not like the idea of you getting money back for it.

I think that is incredibly open to exploit, and it doesn't really make sense from an RP perspective either. I can't think of many RL situations where you get paid to fire people.

You will also potentially get people with say, 200 bgs run down to 1hp each, so a tiny bg efficiency. You fire all those, receive 50% of the costs you've accumalated back, and suddenly you have the money for bgs with full HP which will be more efficient.

I think this would be a waste of coding, assuming it's a lot to hard code in. Not sure if it would remove cash from the game, I can't see why anyone would fire their own bodyguard, I'm struggling to see what benefit it would have for a person and the game. You can argue you buy too many and can't keep paying the upkeep, but that's fine, you have the choice to train, not train, upkeep or not upkeep, but with doing that it's possible to create the illusion you're more protected than you're, it's a visual deterrent if nothing else, I struggle to comprehend why you would fire a bg and show the world your real protection status. I know we can rough guess a persons bg status with pp-ing but it makes no sense to fire a bg.

I don't think it would remove money from the game because it simply won't be used. I know for me, I'd rather sit there and look more protected than I am and choose not to train or can not afford to train than fire them and lower my protection status that people can see. Just my own thoughts though.

Hypothetically, I'd rather have fewer trained BGs than look like I'm trained up fully. For example, what if somebody is OWP in their status with BGs that have never been trained. Come War time, they are near the top of the list, where if that same person had a status of just protected, they wouldn't be at the top of that list. It can put a target on your back when you don't have any way of protecting yourself.
Report Post Tip
Yes, but that works the other way IMO. If you LOOK more protected in theory it limits the people who can take a shot, it creates an illusion that you may be more protected than you're thus factoring a bigger gun to shoot at your during a wave of shots, thus using up a timer of an iwp killer when in actual fact that gun wasn't needed! Tbh if you're a hitter(which the waring side will know due to ws and such) it's pretty safe to assume you will be high on the list to be killed sooner rather than later, that's where, IMO the visual deterrent of look more protected than you are comes into play, again as I have says assigning you a shooter.

That's why, for me, I would never fire a body guard, IMO, It just makes no sense, tactically, if nothing else!

That's fine if it doesn't interest you, but for those of us who are interested, we would like to see it happen. If you don't want to do it, then you don't have to. Just like there are some people who don't shoot at all; that doesn't mean we take guns out of the game. It will be optional, and I think it makes sense from both an RP standpoint and a game standpoint (taking money out).

HMMMMM- Right ok, this is the suggestion thread, you should expect critique, or a difference of opinion, tis the nature of this type of forum. Good luck with it, but I stand by what I have said, for me it makes no real sense for the game.
Even from an RP point, being in the business we’re, you wouldn’t “fire” a bodyguard, surely they would know far too much of the shady business we live in, it wouldn’t be safe to allow them to leave your inner circle, you would kill them, right? - oh wait, we can already do that.

I’m not meaning to sound blunt, but your reply last reply leads me to do so, this forum is for opinions on suggestions that people put forward all for the betterment of the game, to help progress it, personally this suggestion is not for me. Good luck, pal.

My apologies, Lunar.

I was not intending to come across as aggressive. I more than welcome all opinions to my suggestions. I was just trying to point out the optional nature of the idea.

Your points are quite valid. We can just shoot them. But I don't want people to get the idea that they can put up a fence before a war, then shoot them after the war to get better at WACK, without spending much money or any credits.

I'm just trying to think outside the box. I appreciate you sharing your views on it; I asked most of my friends before posting this, but that is still a rather narrow sample, so I'm glad to have somebody bring up reasons that it may not be a good idea. No good idea ever comes without opposition.

Again, I'm sorry if I have offended you in how I have replied. That was most certainly not my intention.

no its all good pal, no offense taken, as you say, you posted it, so you feel it has worth, Good luck with it, would be interesting to get a broader feel on it, any other takers?
Report Post Tip
What about the idea of "signing over" BG's?
Report Post Tip
Interesting idea. How do we keep it from being abused (buying a full set of BGs, then I pass it off to you to hold for me during a war or something, then you give them to my new character as soon as I start)?
