Have you ever wanted to make a giant list of something..then decide to add something to it? Have you ever posted a huge forums post and then notice that you had made a butt load of typos in it? Wouldn't it be nice to FIX these errors or UPDATE a list in a forums post? Wouldn't that make life the the Forums a WHOLE lot easier?

I understand the feeling of agonizing over a new thread or in-depth reply, toiling for an hour or so, then finally berthing it into the world only to realize seconds later that it's got more misspellings than a Chinese takeout menu. That said, I feel that allowing players to edit their posts would be largely detrimental to the game.

First off, in a politics based society, as this one is, accountability is key. Everything has to be on record. While I do like to think that our convictions are generally strong enough that such weaseling manipulation wouldn't be an issue, it'd still present the opportunity to meddle without real necessity.

Secondly, it'd also open the doors for strong-arming and censorship. Part of the beauty is that if you get pissed off beyond control and muster the balls to click the post button, your words are irrevocable.
