Risk and Monopoly, both are guaranteed to end in arguments.

When I was a kid I really liked Stratego.  It's this army strategy game where different ranked soldiers have different abilities and favorable matchups and you arrange them however you like.  What made it really interesting was that you and your opponent couldn't see which pieces you had chosen because the character portraits all faced the player who controlled them, if that makes sense.

Anyway, it made every game a little different and it was fun using strategies that had to change over time as you played the same opponent again.  You couldn't just get away with the same tricks every game.

my favorite board game is Detective.
