Mafia Returns Automatic Promotions

Civilian - Starting rank (5 Units)

Petty Thief - Achieved after doing a few crimes (5 Petty Crimes Completed)

Thug - 12 hours or on joining a family (usually at 10 Units)

Gangster - 1 day

Goomba - 2 days (10 Units Minimum)

Earner - 5 days (15 Units Minimum)

Wise Guy - 8 days (20 Units Minimum)

Promotions that require either a Crew Leader's, Right-Hand, or Left-Hand Man's Permission

Made Man - 11 days (25 Units Minimum)

Capo - 14 days (30 Units Minimum)

Boss - 17 days (35 Units Minimum)

Consigliere - 20 days (40 Units Minimum)

Don - 40 days (45 Units Minimum)

Godfather - 120 days and a minimum family of 30 members. (60 Units Minimum)

It's worth adding that these aren't automatic - work needs to be done to get the necessary qualifications

Taking example from myself, i came here before i found out the game had a wiki.

Inaccurate. 

Thug - 12 hours or on joining a family (usually at 10 Units)

Also inaccurate - there is no unit requirement for Thug. Thug happens as soon as you join a family or hit 12 hours old regardless of unit count.

Oh, it's also worth pointing this out to make it clear - You've put the first lot as 'automatic' - this is true to some extent. They are automatic provided you have the minimum age requirement and the minimum unit requirement. Once you get past those, you have to have the minimum age requirement, the minimum unit requirement, and your crewleader must press the promote button instead of the game promoting you.
