"Shhh, Shindeagan. Calm down! Shhh, girl, shhh."

Taegan brushed her mare's neck as she calmed the poor girl. Looking around, she began to search for the reason why her horse was startled. The sun was starting to settle upon the plains. The two of them needed to head back to the house before her mother began to worry, but Shindaegan wasn't going to budge until she calmed down. 

As Taegan's eyes scanned the trees nearby she noticed some of the twigs were broken unnaturally. Sharpening her vision she made her way over to the trees. She could hear rustling in the forest.

"Those shit faced trespassers!"

She cried out after them and went to grab her shotgun off the side of her mare.

"I'll fucking kill you both if you come back here again!"

This wasn't the first time her lands had been in the sights of those wanting its' fertile soil. Ever since her father died the neighboring farmers have been trying to scare her and her mother off the land so they could take it. Yet, her father had taught her all her life how to take care of the land and he made no mistake in teaching her how to defend it too.

Making her way back over to her mare she climbed on its back.

"We need to get back to mother."

Clicking her heels into the side of her mare Taegan quickly brought her horse into a canter. She rushed home to make sure there was no trouble going on at the house. The most damage the trespassers had done so far were just cut a few wires and made a ruckus. Yet, Taegan knew it was only time before the real shit started.

"Taegan! You best learn to control that mouth of yours! The one thing I regret he ever let you pick up was his dirty language."

Taegan's mother was following her around as she collected her things for the day. Brushing her off she put her boots on and grabbed her belt.

"If the damn Sheriff won't do anything, then I'll take it into my own fucking hands."

She looked over to her mother and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She knew that look in her mother's eyes. It was the one she gave her father whenever he would go out to work for the day.

Going over to the screen door Taegan stopped dead in her tracks. There were three pitch black cars sitting out front. Leaning against those black cars were men in matching black suits smoking.

"Shit."

Taegan looked over to her mother and motioned to get up stairs. At first her mother was shaking her head no, but eventually she climbed the stairs to go hide in her room.

Walking outside she had her hand on her pistol which was settled in its holster on her hip.

"Bout' time you came out, we are sweating here from this god awful sun. Don't know how you can stand this."

Pushing himself off of the porches beam, a man turned to face her. She couldn't see his eyes due to the black sun glasses he wore.

"Well, aren't you going to invite us in?"

Taegan glared at the man. Her fist tightened and closed in on her pistol.

"You can go fuck yourself and get off my property."

The man smirked and shook his head. Pulling out a cigarette he lit it and moved closer to Taegan, taking one step up onto her porch.

"Then I'll get to the point. Get off this land and you and your mother will be safe. Yet, if you stay. I can't promise your safety as I'm getting a nice amount of money for getting you guys gone. Doesn't matter how I do it."

Feeling her stomach knot up, Taegan took a deep breath and drew her pistol. She aimed it directly at the mans head. She was steady and ready to fire.

"Or how about I end it right here and send you to where you belong? Now get off my property or else."

The man shook his head and stepped down, moving back towards the cars he turned to look back. A smirk was back on his face and she caught a glimpse of his eye.

"Such a waste of such a pretty thing. See you soon."
