Duelling: An Experiment Started by: -Kuku on Feb 01, '14 21:39

I can agree with you to some variable, Anna. A likely idea for the future? Maybe. However, you know just as well as I do, that we don't get to decide that. If this idea was coming from a man or woman wearing the bold suit? That's a little different from the rambling musings of a joker. You earned your voice and support. You were someone who might be able to make it happen within that position.

Kuku? No.

There's only a level or serious I can take a conversation based off the speaker sometimes. This is one of them, seemingly as I don't listen to the illiterate 'King of Speeches'. It's just be being honest.

Either way, these decisions are made by someone different from the speaker, that much I do know. As well, I don't appreciate Kuku being his normal self, calling a friend and crewleader of this country 'and idiot'. It's hypocritical and I'll comment on it.

Well what if a godfather sees this and says I love this idea. I'll speak to the other godfathers and then in a week they come to the streets and say that they are going to implement this and make a completion out of it?! Then what is it still stupid? Are you going to stand there and call a godfather and idiot and stupid?? No your going to either keep your mouth shut, or act fake and tell them it's a great idea. So why not show a little respect to everyone? Instead of just the people who are above you!

Logan, I honestly didn't get excited about a group of people going into a district and dueling themselves for a winner. So yeah, not one of my favorite ideas. Seems like a lazy way to do things if you ask me, as well as short. Oh they dueled? Cool. He/She won? Cool.

Report Post Tip

And that's a much better response. You state that you don't like it, and you state very valid reasons why. It's not simply "this idea is stupid because the person who proposed it is stupid".

THAT engages actual discussion and civil discourse. Personally, I find ALL "contests" for auth to be laughably stupid, but, to me, this adds a new twist on that concept that comes with actual consequences for people who want to partake of it. It's not simply "Oh, you didn't get enough votes, so you don't get auth. Soz."

Report Post Tip

I must agree with Logan, this is one of the few contest that I have liked over the years! I think that instead of everyone carelessly tossing their names in a contest this one makes them think about the consequences of throwing your name in. Because you could be killed and lose all your hard work!

So, Mako, you agree that my idea is a good idea but you can't support it because I am who I am?

That's why you are and idiot.

Report Post Tip

I don't like your idea, or you and the way you try to present yourself. It was a win/win for me.

Report Post Tip
Its a good idea and ill participate

Kuku, if you listened Mako said he didn't like the idea, and even gave you a couple of reasons why.  Him not liking you just was another reason as to why he didn't believe in the idea.  All of the citizens who support this idea need to push it forward to their Crew Leaders and God Fathers, and then if they like the ideas, maybe it is something that will be used.  Otherwise it won't.

As much as this is an interesting alternative to the present authing system for that district, i must admit lucky/skilled winner doesn't always translate to good leader in my mind.

I know leading comes with some on the job learning, but at least would make a difference in some cases from recycled leaders.

Report Post Tip

I don't like this idea at all. In a time of re building what was senselessly torn down, why demand the death of 15 Made Men just so 1 *random* person can take a whole district?

My ancestors have seen many more interesting contests or experiments.

To be honest, the winners of a popularity contest and people who get authed to a district on the pure basis they've never had auth before don't always translate to good leaders either. We can probably point to the way that those two contest districts fell apart and saw all participants reach the grave in fairly quick time as evidence of that.

At least by entering a dueling competition for auth, people are having to put something on the line to get what they want. They aren't just saying "ah go on then" or "well, I might not win but I won't lose anything". They're saying "this is worth risking my life for, that's how much I want this chance". I think few people would risk throwing their lives away if they felt that they couldn't succeed at the other end of it.

Sorry Crank, I sat down too soon there.

This idea doesn't demand the death of anything. It doesn't force anybody to do anything they don't want to do. It makes them accept the possibility of death for what they must perceive as a greater reward if they're going to continue and go for the district. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward.

As Mako said earlier, we don't get to decide this, but I'm willing to defend it as an idea because I genuinely think that if it sticks in the mind of a future Godfather or even Godfather Council as a good idea - well, not being a fan of contests, it's a better idea than the rest of what we've seen of late, in my opinion. People are at least having to put something on the line to get what they profess to want.

Contests and experiments have let us see some of the most invigorating times in this thing.  Thrills and spills and, it must be said, those outside the hegemonic elite getting a shot at the title.

Report Post Tip

Those people outside the "hegemonic elite" are getting shots, Kuku.

I can name some of them in bold as of right now.

Report Post Tip

You certainly could name them.  But you will still be and idiot.
