Is anybody aware of how to display a different font/typeface via a browser option?
Essentially, I'd just like a serif font - such as the original that was used many years ago. I know it's very petty, but it's for nostalgia.
I have tried using Chrome, and via Advanced Settings I removed the use of sans-serif fonts (such as Arial, which seems to be the current choice) - but there is no difference. I suppose it may not be possible.

In IE it takes two steps.

First you go to Internet Options and select Fonts. Then go tointernet options ...  Accessibility and check the box to ignore font styles specified on webpages.

You can also ignore colors and font sizes.

This might only change the text areas and not the site itself which is set by their css. I am not sure if it overrides that.

I know zero about Chrome though.
