Draven walked down the dark streets late that January night. Solomon the streets seemed as the rain poured down on the roof tops seeming to wash away the sins of the day. Pulling her jacket closer as the winds picked up she walked quicker down the streets towards the Angels HQ. Having no one about seemed eerie to her as she watched every shadow closely.

Suddenly out of the corner of her eye she saw movement. Jumping she grabbed her gun and stared deep into the shadow across the street. Not knowing what was there she haulted all movement and stood still against the butcher shop that she had almost passed. Still having her gun drawn she watched and waited. "Show yourself damn it." Draven thought to herself but didn't want to alarm that which waited. Suddenly through the darkness she heard a clanging of what sounded to be a trash can, and she backed up further against the shop. Her back leaning against the glass she tried to maintain her stance.

"Move damn it." Draven told herself being merely only about 100 feet from her safe haven she knew she could just run for it, but then again could she. Unable to move she tried to peer deeper into the darkness and have her eyes focus harder. As she did her mind began to play tricks on her. The other shadows around her seemed to move and tease her senses. Draven gasped as a cat jumped out from the shadow that she peered at. Alarming her she fired off her gun without being able to stop herself. "Aww for crap.." She let her gun down and stared at the dead cat shaking her head.

Continuing on her path her thoughts raced. "What is wrong with me tonight? Geeze.. So jumpy.Draven just calm yourself only 50 more feet." Her thoughts continued to echo through her head as she started to relax. Growing even closer to the Angels HQ she relaxed seeing the soft flow come from behind the doors. "Home! Almost there."

"Draven." The voice rang out through the patter of the rain and she turned to face him. "Almost shot me back there didn't you?"

"Who..?" Her voice shook as she saw the gun pointed at her. She had known better then to try to go home so late she should have just stayed where she was at. "What do you want?" She finally had gathered up the courage to speak as she watched him stand there unwavering seemingly to tower over her.

The shorter the distance the figure was from Draven - proportionally he grew in height. His face, his purpose shrouded in black of night, not even his rain soaked clothes glistened in the light. Something was terrible wrong about this ordeal.

Cowering back, she found herself backed against the window of the shop. Her eyes never left the figure which loomed over her as he stepped closer.

"What do you want I asked?" Draven's voice trembled as she searched for some kind of sign as to what his intentions were. Her eyes widened as she watched him step closer. Unable to back up further, she cut her eyes to the HQ which stood no more then 25 ft away. "Run damn it." Her body wouldn't move as she told herself to go. Trembling from the cold rain that ran down her and from the fear that had begun the envelope her, she reached for her gun slowly sliding her hand to her side and over to the holster. She could feel it just under her coat but how to pull it out with out him firing his first.

Not even knowing his full intention she stopped and looked at him as he stood motionless only a few paces in front of her. Still barely visible against the darkness he seemed to be nothing more then a shadow taunting her, terrifying her.

A subtle click echoed through the alleyway. The figure had positioned the hammer of his revolver, all too familiar sound to Draven. He continued to step forward, stripping the blackness from his true form. It was a tradition amongst some killers to show who they were before doing their deed. Some suggested it was a sign of respect to the soon to be deceased, others argued it was a mockery.

Hearing him draw back the hammer of his gun she knew she had to act quickly. Becoming visible as he stepped closer she gasped upon seeing his face.

"Why? Please.." She looked for a distraction something that would give her a brief second to beat him to the punch. Thinking quickly she shook her head as he grew closer. There was no time. She held back a scream as she reached and drew her gun.

Suddenly a shot rang out that was amplified as it echoed through the dark streets breaking the silence that haunted those creatures that scurried about.

The figure dropped his pistol. Once it hit the ground, let out another deafening ring. He then collapsed to his knees and slowly to the ground, illuminated by the ambient light of the alleyway. His true-form finally fully visible. He was a child, perhaps twelve or thirteen, his boyish face was familiar. He was something of the boy next door, a substitute older brother, but hell that was years ago. Draven slowly creeps up on the figure, struggling to breath. In his fingers he grasped an old wallet photograph.

"It's cold, little sis. Keep me warm." He managed to rasp with his swallow breaths.

Draven's tears mixed with the falling rain and the blood of the boy. She elevated the boy's body from the rough cobblestone alleyway, hugging him tightly until his breath and heartbeat quit.

When his heart stopped, so did the nightmare. She was home now, warm and covered in an arsenal of blankets. The sky was clear and quiet, but eyes mirrored the rain of her nightmare. She satup in bed and cried to herself.
