Your Value Started by: Senka on Feb 13, '14 23:01

Senka wanders along the streets. She wasn't a massive fan of the place but something had been weighing on her mind so she thought that she would find better perspective by asking the community.

Finding a local abandoned bar amongst the way she got up on the top step. Soap boxes tipped too easily for her liking so the stairs it was. She held up a fog horn and pressed the button. Listening to the loud noise she watched as people turned their heads to see where it was coming from. Being small as she was Senka raised her arms to gather attention.

"Sorry about that friends. I just can't yell to get all of your attention so the horn worked wonders for me. "

Straightening herself up so she could see who was wandering around and may be listening.

"So to the point, your value. Once you are in a family you work as a team, right? Obviously you try to be the best at whatever task you chose whether it is gun training, earning or losing all your money to gambling. That is what you do for yourself in order to catch the boss's eye and move up in this world.

However, what do you feel your value is? If you were to die today could you put a monetary price on your head? Do you think your crew leader would even notice? Would they put a monetary value on your head? Do you think if you were to die by a rogue, that you could come back and be looked after? Or would you rather rework your way from the bottom?"

Senka sways from side to side. Her feet starting to hurt from standing too long. Trying to hurry herself along so no one else starts to get antsy as she was.

"Why do I ask these questions? My mother having been shot by such, has got me thinking about my value to my family. This is clearly a question that could only be answered by me and Numbers4Glory. I like to think I am an asset, but I am curious how other people view themselves in regards to their value in their families.

So I ask you all of these questions plus one. Do you think you will be remembered fondly among your family?"

Senka having finished stares at the people around her. Her face as serious as it could get as she steps off the stairs to converse with the people around her.

Mercury was walking the streets, yet again, when out of nowhere she heard a foghorn. She covered her ears and winced.

What the hell was THAT! she exclaimed loudly. Who the fuck is making all that racket!

Mercury looked around and saw a lady standing on a set of stairs. The woman began talking and asking questions.

She heard a man reply and chuckled at his one liner.

Mercury thought about the questions posed then replied.

I am sure I have a value to my Boss but I have no clue what that would be. If a rogue shot me today it wouldn't be unexpected. I tend to have a peculiar way about me and don't particularly seek acceptance. I do what is requested of me and what I can for my family. I could not begin to gauge how anyone but my Boss would feel about such a thing. None of us like it when a rogue takes a pot shot but what can we really do besides ask for their heads on a platter?

I would not ask for compensation but I have a feeling my Boss would. I would not want my kin taken care of. My family is able to take care of themselves. I would refuse personal compensation and ask that any be used for the family or the city, should my kin decide to return.

As for being remembered by my family fondly, my Boss will always think fondly of me. Our families have been close for quite awhile now. I can't say that I have built a strong relationship with my crew as of yet. I am attempting to lead by example but I can't really say what they think of what I am doing. We are all entitled to our opinions and I won't infringe on theirs. All I can do is my part in the manner I know.

Mercury was rambling. She had no idea if she had stayed on topic or answered all the questions that were proffered. She waited to see if anyone else had anything to say.

Still deep in thought from his last speech Sycho is damn near knocked off his feet by the sudden shock back into reality when the foghorn sounds.

“Damnit!” He mutters to himself as he regains his composure and looks for the source of the noise.

A small group is starting to form at the base of a set of stairs with a woman at the top.  She begins talking of value.  I must say she does pose an interesting question.  Sycho listens carefully to all the opinions given, when they finish he speaks up so he can be heard.

“Everyone has a place and purpose to their family.  But not all are created equal.  As an example if you have 2 thugs and only one is earning to help support his family which is worth more?  If they both get wacked at the same time which one is likely going to get noticed as gone?  Social has a lot to do with it too, if one is earning but doesn’t talk and the other talks all the time the one that talks will be noticed once gone before the one that doesn’t.”

Sycho tips his fedora up slightly and continues.

“With all that being said I think I have a high value, but obviously only my absence can prove one way or the other and I’m not ready to leave this world just yet.”

Sycho steps back and pulls his fedora back down and lets the next person speak their mind.

WTRFG stood and thought about the question Senka had posed. WTRFG turned to address the question briefly.

In this day and age, a hard-working member in your family is priceless you can't put a value on that. Someone who does what they are expected to the best of their ability can never have a monetary value. In my opinion.

I would like to think that to my family, my "value" is very high. Each person serves a purpose somewhere and it's just a matter of finding that purpose.

Senka turned to Mercury. Listening intently to what the woman had to say.

I appreciate you coming out. I see your point of view. I am of the same mind as yourself on the questions I have asked. Thinking of ones city and family over themselves is a trait I find quite a few people lacking but I am sure someone else has taken that to task on another street corner down the way.

I am curious as you mentioned that you have a peculiar way. Do you feel others view you as less than them because of it? I am also of the peculiar ways and sometimes even I struggle to understand other people's views upon myself but it hasn't hindered how much I work for my family. I am merely curious.

Given some time I am sure those bonds with your family members will eventually form. It does take some time.

Smiling at Mercury before turning to Sycho.

Sorry about the startle and thank you for taking the time to speak your mind.

I see your point about not everyone being created equal. In the sense of an inactive person and one that is working for the family then I understand completely that the one working would be noticed. However I am not so sure about the social situation. I get that we must speak to one another but I disagree that a quieter person is less likely to be noticed. If they working just as hard a leader would take notice, wouldn't they?

Pausing for a moment Senka takes a breath and ponders.

I do have a question for you Sir. I know you mentioned two people doing the same line of work but what if each had a different set. Such as an earner and a hitter. Do you think the hitter would be valued more than the earner?

Senka took a moment to take a sip of a flask. The alcohol keeping her warm on this cold day.

WhereTheRedFernGrows, good evening. Glad to have you join the conversation as well.

I appreciate your views on today's members. I, agree, that everyone has their roles to play within a family. Anyone who works for their family should be valued the same but are they really? Do you truly think every family member is equal in value?

Senka takes a step back to think on the questions that have been posed some more.

Mercury hears the foghorn blare as she begins to walk away. She covers her ears again.

Dammit! Really? she exclaims followed by a few other choice words.

Mercury hears the speaker address her. She listens to what she has to say.

Mercury thought about it then replied.

I think people who don't know me might or might not think less of me. They are entitled to their opinion and I am comfortable with who I am. I know people underestimate me, at least at first. I kind of like that. When people underestimate you it is much easier to fly under the radar. I know what I am capable of.

Let me tell you something, no two people are going to view you identically. You are like a fingerprint, unique in your own way. All you can be is, well, you because the minute you try to be something someone else wants you to be disaster ensues. People are always going to talk. Fish stories will follow. Be true to yourself, work hard for your family and the gossipers be damned. They matter not to me. I know I am brash. I know I can easily irritate people. I speak with conviction and that is often misconstrued.

I will take what you said to heart. I know it will take longer than with the average person. I know we have good people in our family. All good things come to those who wait. I am wiling to wait. :)

Mercury heard her other statements as well. She's going to hang around and see what else is said. A thought occurred to her. She wished she had the lady's foghorn about right now.

Miss, do you think our value lies in what others think of us? So you think others opinions matter, Mercury posed to her. I'd like to think not but I'd like your thoughts.

Senka smiles at Mercury. Setting the foghorn down as she pondered all that was said.

Do I personally think our value lies in what others think of us? No. If I thought that I should have left this world a long time ago as many do not think all that highly of my bloodline.

You are correct in that fish tails will follow. My bloodline has seen this many times. They have even been the subject of such and rumours. However, my line has prevailed through every storm and is still among this world or I would not be here.

I've been told, and even recently, that I should change who I am. For those people, I will not do such a thing. I am myself and I have no wish to be like anyone else. I have my strengths and my faults. A capable leader would be able to work with the strengths and try to find a way that works for everyone where the weaknesses are. I would never claim to be perfect but I would like to think I have something, some skill set or something, to bring to the table for my family and city.

Senka takes a pause in her talk for a moment.

I would like to think that our value would be dependent on our work. Our effort. Our enthusiasm for making things as good as possible in the time we are here. I would like to think that it's how hard you work and not whose ass your kissing. However, I would be naive to think that doesn't happen because it does.

Maybe I would like to believe that hard work pays off in the long run. Under certain leaders it certainly does.

Personally I believe myself to be a valuable member of NY as a whole, not to mention the Banditos. However, dying is a part of the game and I know that my death wouldn't result in an extremely weakened city or crew. Yea I think I'd be missed but my next of kin would make an appearance, then all that would be missed would be assets lost.

Now, honestly, I know if I left NY everyone would be very upset. Not because I left but because Chong's exotic marijuana supplies. They leave with him.

Chong sits back and lights a joint to pass the time.
