Drug Front Properties Amendments. Started by: Numbers4Glory on Feb 19, '14 16:33

I will be amazed if this hasn't been brought up before but there are a number of major issues with DFP's.

The first of which is upgrading. Under the current system upgrading by a single unit, is the single most outrageously priced, unrealistic thing on this game. It quite simply is not reasonable, feasible or logical that the cost of increasing capacity by 1 unit for the same drug type can be so insanely high.

I don't have the numbers right now, but to make the profits up by upgrading by 1 unit will take over a year at current level. Even now the system is designed so that it is far more to sell, and rebuy than to upgrade?

I get they are supposed to be expensive, but is there a reason behind this insane pricing scheme?

"I get they are supposed to be expensive, but is there a reason behind this insane pricing scheme?"

DFPs, in the right hands, can be EXTREMELY profitable.  Rather than force owners to abide by rigid rules on DFP upgrades (only when your rank changes, or when your drug type changes, or every 10 units or so) - we leave it up to the player to make whatever decision they feel is best for their DFP.

Upgrading a DFP is done at full price because it is risk free.  You could sell it and get half back, then purchase the new one - but it comes at a risk of there not being one available.

We do not discount every little risk free upgrade because then we would have to lower the profit for everyone to counterbalance the increased profit from the DFPs producing more units faster and for lest total cost than prior.

So in a nutshell, its priced the way it is so that you can enjoy the profits that you do.

izzy, check this and tell me if my number is off. If it takes (to ballpark a number that i'm pretty sure is in the correct area) $4,750,000 to gain a single unit of coke, and you then sell that single unti at $9,000 once every day, It will take 527 and change days for you to pay off that upgrade, with the single unit. The first buy is your current unit count, so the price drops dramatically. but after that, Your talking more like 19-20 months of selling every day to profit off that upgrade. Financially, I don't see the point.

Report Post Tip

for comparison, To buy a DFP right now, It would cost my just short of 2.9mil, would give me 31 units of heroin daily, and would pay for itself in around 12 days. I can expect to be alive in 12 days. I cannot honestly expect to be alive in 527 days. So for me to do unit upgreades, isn't reallly al that useful to me.

That is more or less the point I was trying to make Phili-stein.

It's not viable until you increase your units by like 10.

So I will basically upgrade mine from 60 in like a year. It's just not viable otherwise

Report Post Tip

Well that was pretty much Squishy's point though, wasn't it? That you have to decide when it would be viable and potentially profitable to upgrade.

Your one unit of coke (I'm taking your numbers as correct without checking) takes 527 days, so clearly not a good idea to upgrade. But the more you upgrade by in one jump, the less and less time it takes for you to recuperate those losses. And if you take the risk of selling your DFP first and rebuying it fully upgraded, it instantly halves the amount of time it would take for you to make that money back... provided you can actually get another DFP straight away.

Also, that '527 days' is only the point at which it becomes more profitable to have bought that one extra unit instead of just keeping the current DFP... not the point at which you'll actually be making profit again. That point is still the same as it was before, around 12 days.

Personally I like the fact that people have to use their own judgement to work out whether it's worth it or not!

Thus concludes DFP 101. Next semester is DFP - Advanced theory.

wait a second, I must be a little slow here, but then again, it's been damn near a year since I owned a DFP, and at the time, I wasn't able to jump more then one unit simply cause hitters unit up slow.  but what your telling me is that the price to upgrade is the same whether it's one unit or 20? well shit.

I can't say it makes sense, But that does change things. Since i've not owned one that gained more then one unit while I owned it in so long, I figured that logically, the more units you upgraded at a shot, the more the price. and i don't know how many people knew different.

for what it's worth, I'm sorry for my ignorance.

Report Post Tip

Actually the DFP price does go up the more units you have, but it's a small modifier from what I've seen. Either way, the cost of the DFP is around the cost of two weeks of owning the DFP no matter which drug/amount you own.
