"Okay, fifteen dollars and that's my final offer." "Only fifteen?! I mean...c'mon. This is high stakes! I'll up it to thirty bucks. If you can match thirty bucks, we have a deal and the bet is on...that is...unless...you are afraid you will loooose." Lifting up his eyebrow at Florence, he grinned a devilish grin waiting for her to think about the wager. She sat there on the stool contemplating what he said and grinned back at him. Grabbing her glass, she took a sip and crossed her legs lifting a brow at him now. "Alright, now. You know the rules. I'll see you your thirty 'bucks' and we can get this show on the road." Eloquent she was at accepting the bet. Cohen couldn't help but smirk at her attitude. Without looking he grabbed his glass of whiskey on the bar and slide off the bar stool. Walking backwards he didn't take his eye off his new beautiful friend. She gave a chuckle and followed him. Grabbing a pool stick, he placed his glass on a small table just arms reach from the pool table. He watched her as she placed her glass of gin there as well and went for a pool stick. "You know there handsome, that I have a good eye for such a game." "You make it sound like I have no game." "But you don't. I mean...you can try. I'll give you that. Now show me your money and I can end this sooner than you can finish your drink." He watched her as she grabbed her small clutch and began to fish money out. Before she could take out the money, he interrupted her. "How about this...I'll up the stakes...you seem like you can handle it? Correct? I'll throw in another thirty bucks and if I win...I get to bring you out for dinner. How about it?" She lowered her arms and I could see her grin at the thought of a completely new game. "Well, well...mister charming you are. You've got a lot of show don't you. I fancied you a game of pool because I needed some entertainment since my other lady friends didn't make it and now you wanna make it something more. How about this...I'll fancy you again. Only because I like your bravado. Please remember...you can think you can win but it won't happen." With that, she snapped her clutch closed and threw down sixty dollars onto the pool table. Cohen smiled and winked and grabbed his wallet in his back pocket. Flipping it open, he pulled out sixty dollars and threw it into the middle of the pool table also. Putting his wallet back, he reached into his front pockets and pulled out a coin. He nodded to Florence and showed her the coin. "Tails, handsome." He flipped the coin into the air and caught it quickly. Waiting a couple seconds before blindly placing his hand onto the pool table. Feeling the coin drop onto the felt, he quickly drew up his hands to reveal what was played. Grinning wildly, he turned to her. "Looks like I win the first round." She smirks and rounds the end of the pool table and gathers the balls into the triangle. Cohen chalks up the end of his pool stick and slips of his leather jacket. Throwing it onto the empty table stool. As she finishes, she removes the triangle and tosses it aside. Grabbing her pool stick and walking towards him. "Now show me how you play." Cohen leaned down and pointed his pool stick at the cue ball. Carefully aiming and finally hitting it. It connected with the first ball and caused them to roll wildly in other directions. The first ball was sunk and the game was set. "Looks like I'm solids tonight." He smiled and gave a small chuckle as he went to the cue ball and scoped out another possible ball. Looking at the possible angles, he leaned down and aimed his stick. "Red...corner right pocket." Cohen took aim... BANG The pool stick had completely missed and he was shaken by the loud noise. Quickly looking up he realized that what was happen was no accident. A man wielding a pistol had run into the bar and fired shots into the ceiling. Cohen's heart was racing. He could hear his heart beat. He ran to his leather jacket and grabbed it. His gun was in the inside pocket. He looked to find Florence who had crouched behind the pool table when the shots were fired. While the gunman was yelling, Cohen grabbed her arm and lifted her. "We can finish this bet later, but you have to come with me. We can slip out the back." |
