I have always been curious about this comment HarryMorgan made:

I can assure you RIA hunting does favor people based in the US. For one they are closer to the games servers.

It's something I have believed myself (though most probably to put the blame on something other then myself) when losing the races. I also have spoke with mario about this and he called me stupid (lol).

Is there like any truth behind this? With legitimate evidence or something to that effect.

On the topic, I hate the idea of a durden spawner and I hate how many durdens this game currently has. It's taking away the skill of building big guns no doubt in my mind. 6/7/8 a day averages seem to be the norm now for a lot of people I talk to.

A test to see if you can compete with the other 99.9% of the users:

Go to the wack page, put in a fake name that you KNOW isnt real.

Turn off the safety, then wack as fast as you can.

Do you see -> "Slow down, your gun can't fire that fast! (Penalty.)"

That means you were able to go faster than ajax wack would accept. As long as you can go faster than the ajax wack will accept it, then you are on equal footing with everyone else who can go faster (Which is 99.9% of our population with the exceptions of mobile phone users who are on like 1x or 1 bar 3G type situations)

Ajax wack is sending such a tiny packet of info, that you can even max it out with dialup.

Whilst I agree with you in theory. Speaking as someone who plays from a place that has poor Internet is poor I can tell you without question (having also played in places with good Internet) that it doesn't quite work out that way.

If I go to the page and do as suggested. The results are incredibly inconsistent but considerably more efficient than traditional wacking.

It will given me.

Penalty
Too young
Penalty
Penalty
Penalty
Penalty
Too Young
Too Young

Etc.

The connection "lags" sending multiple requests at once. Ive had it where I've had 20 penalties in a row. Even if I attempt to click at reasonable non penalty pace I still get stuck and it will double send and cause a penalty at clicks well over a second apart. Using an RIA racing system without penalties I average roughly 20% less refreshes in a minute than another user and still incur penalties.

That isn't really the issue at hand though.

Please can you publish the start times for the last 100 durden spawns. It will be horrifically weighted.

N4G, I think i see what you're getting at, but i'd guess that they are in fact not particularly weighted. I've noticed that they happen pretty much at all hours of my day. And given that i have the same 24 hours (albiet differently arranged) as the US, I'd say that they're showing up at all hours there also.

In addition, I've had as many show up at times that i know are bad for the US as i've had show up at shitty times for me

I think it will be weighted proportionally to the userbase. The Durden spawns run by code aren't biased. I suppose the ones spawned specially by admins would likely be done during their active hours, and that's what this suggestion targets.

If the objective is more equitable Durden spawns, there are ways of doing that:

  • Limit players to one or two durden kills per spawn, forcing the spawn to last longer than normal. This number is reset when TD dies, just like mapping. Maybe even let this number stack if people miss a spawn.
  • Randomize the Durden spawn within 24 hours of when the MIA quota is reached. This would make their presence less expected and players will be less prepared for it. This will also draw out the spawn, as more casual players will not get as many shots in.

If the aim is to give everyone the ability to spawn their own Durdens, I would say that would make it less equitable for a couple reasons:

  • If it is spawned when fewer players are online, those who spawned it reap many more kills than when most players are active (as stated in the original post).
  • Admin-spawned durdens consist of more targets, so this effect would be greatly amplified.

I think we should determine precisely what our objective is in this discussion, then we can assess what solutions make the most sense. Currently Numbers4Glory has provided a suggestion without really identifying the problem he seeks to solve. I don't think we should implement suggestions solely because they favor players outside of American timezones, so I request a bit of explanation for what need motivates this suggestion.

Solon,

I think the original post was pretty clear as to what N4G wanted. The idea is to have a built in spawn option. Players can currently PM Izzy and pay, via credits, for spawns. This would allow for these "paid spawns" to happen even when Izzy is sleeping. Sounds pretty simple.

I'm not going to argue the point of whether or not paid spawns are of worth, as that is not what this post was originally about.

Disregard my post, then. I support this feature.
