A Missing Angel (part 1) Started by: DravenLynn on Jan 13, '09 21:55
Draven trudged down the cold windy streets of Chicago. Watching people laugh and smile as they passed her, she wondered what she was going to go do. Pulling her coat tighter against herself, she murmured as she looked in the flower shop that she had started to pass by. The flowers were so pretty in their glass vases that she stopped to glance inside. Seeing herself in the window she noticed her reflection surrounded by the assorted roses that lined the shop and decided to go in and look around. Opening the glass door she sighed to herself, as the sweet smell filled her nose, and she took a few steps in.

"Can I help you?" An older woman walked towards Draven to help her with any need she might have. "We have just about any flower for anything you could need. Care for me to show you some?"

"Oh no thanks, I'm just looking." Draven suddenly saw, out of the corner of her eye, a single blood red rose and walked towards it. Behind the cold glass casing she ran her fingers along the handle of the door and opened it carefully. Still staring at the rose, she plucked it from the container and pulled it to her nose. "Hmm.." Draven looked up from the flower and walked back over to the women who sat patiently behind a wooden counter that was littered with string to tie flowers together and petals that had fallen off a few that she had been working on tirelessly. "This one please." Draven looked up at the women as she laid her money down on the countertop.

"It is a pretty one isn't it?" The women smiled as she reached her hand out to give Draven her change. Just before she could reach her, Draven nodded for her to keep it. "Thank you!" Kindly, the women smiled at her just before Draven forced a smile of her own and turned to leave. Walking out the door Draven smelled the flower again as she pushed the door open feeling the cold wind against her face.

Walking down the street again, Draven held her coat close to her and the rose, whose dampened petals glistened against the sunlight. Feeling someone run into her shoulder, she grumbled as she watched them run past without saying sorry. "Damn kids." Letting her hands fall to her side she reached the Angels HQ and walked up the stairs and in through the doors. Feeling the warmth hit her in the face, she smiled a bit happy to be out of the cold.

"A bit quite here today. Everyone must still be at the party." Draven walked down the hall and turned the corner to her room. Opening the door, she walked in and flipped on the light.

"Oh what the hell.." She shut the door behind her and stood in astonishment as she looked at everything being totally trashed. All her papers were thrown everywhere, her pictures that had sat on top of a dresser where broken on the floor. Taking her jacket off, she threw it on the small chair that sat by the door. "Of all the things to come home to. How did anyone get in here and do all this crap?" She grumbled as she kicked one of the photos across the room. Looking down, she realized she still had her rose in her hand and found herself sighing again as she plopped onto the couch that was just behind her.

Suddenly out of the corner of her eye, she saw a figure move quickly behind her. Trying to turn around, she was caught off guard and suddenly felt a cloth slide over her nose and mouth. It was being held tightly against her face. Letting the rose drop from her grasp, she raised her hands and tried to pull the assailant away from her. Thrashing in her seat her body went limp and her eyes closed.

Wondering in the Angels HQ after leaving the wedding reception, Lucifer tiredly walks to his room. Stopping off at Draven's office he paused and looked at the empty office perplexed. "She had left the party before anyone else had. Rather early actually." Lucifer stood scratching his head and decided to go check on her in her room so he turned from the empty office and walked around the corner to the left nearly running into Nicky.

"Damn. I am sorry crap." Lucifer stammered back a bit as he regained his balance. Looking up at a puzzled Nicky he chuckled, seeing Nicky standing there shaking his head.

"Now Lucifer what in the hell are you doing not watching where you are going?" Nicky stood there his hands on his hips disgusted he got ran into.

"Sorry again, just well.. Draven wasn't in her office and I haven't seen her since she snuck out of the party. Just wanted to make sure she was ok. That's all." Lucifer seemed to be really concerned.

"I am sure she is fine probably just went out for a drink.. Or you know how she always has her nose in a book. Probably find her sitting in her room with another damn book. You go and bother her while she is reading you are in for it you know that. Go check if you want." Nicky laughed loudly as he thought or Draven biting Lucifer's head off because he bugged her for nothing.

"Hmm.. I still think I take my chances." Lucifer stormed off a bit angry at the thought of Draven yelling at him over a book. Thinking back about though he knew that Nicky was right. The last time he had dared knock on the door she answered and then when she found out it was nothing popped him on the chest with her book. "Damn that did hurt. Stupid hard covers." He rubbed his chest where she had struck him remembering how it stung. yet he still continued to her room.

Reaching her door he sighed knowing what was probably coming, but he still wanted to check. It was like something was driving him to. Reaching up he tapped on the door quietly. After waiting a few seconds and getting no response he knocked loudly and noticed the door pushed up a bit. Puzzled he pushed it open a bit further as he called out for her softly kind of scared that she was going to pop out and yell at him. "Draven..." Looking in he noticed her room in shambles. Everything she owned was misplaced and thrown about. Stepping further in he grabbed his gun from the leather holster and held it out while he looked about.

"Draven! What the hell is going on? Where are you?" Lucifer grew angry as he saw her coat laying on the chair that was just beside the door wondering why the hell she wasn't answering him. Seeing something crimson in color on the couch, he swallowed hard as he approached it to see a rose lying there that looked as if it had been squashed by something. Picking it up he looked at it and his stomach turned as he saw a white cloth that had been thrown on the floor. Dropping the rose, he knelt and picked up the damp cloth knowing immediately that from the sweet smell that it had been doused in chloroform.

"SHIT.." Lucifer ran out of the room quickly to find Nicky to help.

Running down the hall Lucifer search for Nicky. Seeing him round him round a corner headed for his room Lucifer called out to Nicky. "Nicky!"

"Oh what the hell." Nicky said out loud as he looked back and saw Lucifer running towards him. Realizing who it was he caught himself laughing as Lucifer slid as he tried to stop running. "She smacked you good this time huh? I told you.." Lucifer held up his hand stopping Nicky mid sentence.

"Nicky! She's not there someone took her." He gasped for breath trying to get his words out.

Nicky glared hard at him not happy about Lucifer's prank. "Not funny Lucifer. Not freaking funny at all." Nicky turned to go about his way and felt Lucifer grab his arm and turn him back around.

"I am not playing go look for yourself." Lucifer looked at him sternly a bit pissed off that he didn't believe him. "I promis.." Before he could finish his sentence Nicky had started running down the hall nearly knocking over the few that had began to tiredly come back home from the reception.

Reaching Draven's room he threw the door open hearing it hit the inside wall. He stood there motionless looking at the mess of papers and belongings that were strewed across the room. Walking in quickly, he saw the rag on the floor and the rose on the couch as he approached the interior. Turning back to the door he saw Lucifer standing there nearly white as a ghost.

"Shit! Lucifer go find Hayley now and hurry." Nicky looked back down at the rag and then he looked back up at Lucifer who stood motionless. "Damn it I sad go now!"

Lucifer had to tell his legs to move from the spot they seemed to be cemented to. He knew that Don Hayley was probably still at the party and hated to go crash it but well this was an emergency and that they would need her help. After a brief moment of looking back around he turned quickly and ran.

"Hurry.." Nicky spoke more as a reassurance to himself hoping that they both get back quickly because he knew that they didn't have long, as he watched Lucifer run down the hall and towards the entry way of the building.

A few of the others that had begun to trickle in, from the party, wondered up to see what the commotion was about. Nicky stepped out of the room and shut the door behind him hearing the door click behind him. Glancing at the family members that stood outside of the door he shook his head and didn't say a word.

A voice among the groups finally gathered the courage to ask what was going one. Nicky looked at him and sighed. Addressing the group of family members he spoke sternly. "Does or has anyone seen someone here that they didn't know?" He awaited an answer from someone but all he got were a few head shakes. They had all been at the party.

"Hurry Hayley and Lucifer. Please hurry." Nicky said just under his breath so none of the others would hear.

Lucifer ran quickly towards where the party near the back of the HQ was at. Having to exit through the front and running around the building to get to the party area, Lucifer realized how cold it was really starting to get. His imagination went wild at the thought of Draven being thrown into the freezing river, sinking to the bottom never to be found again, and he ran faster. Reaching the doors to ballroom he nearly ran into them as he flung them open.

Many people still sat in at the adorned tables drinking their drinks as he looked around quickly for Don Hayley. Seeing her towards the back at the bar he ran past several people nearly knocking them over. Quickly without stopping he apologized not even looking back at them. Approaching Hayley, Phantom caught Lucifer by the sleeve and drug him off to the side.

"Man what in the hell are you doing? Don't be rude." Phantom's breath was rich with the smell of whiskey as he spoke. "Calm down. Nothing is so important that you have to come barging in her like that. Relax. Pull up a seat and have a drink." Waving a waiter over Phantom tried to get Lucifer to relax.

Lucifer angered by having to stop before he could get to Hayley glared at Phantom. "Look we have someone in the family that we believed to have been kidnapped. Please step aside and let me speak to Hayley." Making sure to speak loudly enough so those around could hear he looked around Phantom to see Hayley rise from her seat quickly.

"What?" Don Hayley pushed a few people aside and hurried over to where the two men were standing. "What in the hell did you just say? And let me say if this is a stupid prank I will not be happy."

Cowering back Lucifer looked down at the floor knowing how pissed Hayley really was going to be when she found out that it was Draven and had happened no more then 20 feet from where everyone was at. "Please just come with me now. Nicky needs you to help."

Looking up at Phantom, Hayley sighed and looked around the room. "Fine. Let me find Draven around here and then we will both go." Hayley glanced around the room as she snatched a drink off of a waiters tray that had just past by. Taking a quick drink she looked back to Lucifer puzzled by his expression. "What? We will find them no problem. Now just to find her and we will go to help Nicky."

"Don Hayley. It's Draven who's been taken." Lucifer's voice was quite as he told her. Watching her face drop he looked away from her as he heard the glass that she held shatter on the floor.

Reaching Draven's room, Don Hayley saw Nicky standing still against the door frame. "Where is she?"

"Look. I looked all through out the room and found nothing to help me know who or why. Hell I don't even know exactly how long ago she was taken." Nicky tried not to raise his voice as he spoke to Hayley.

"Please step aside." Nothing in her voice was calm. Only anger portrayed in her tone of voice as she spoke. She watched as Nicky moved from in front of the door and slowly opened it. Stepping in, she was startled by the ringing of Draven's phone. Hurrying over to it, she picked the phone up and listened for a voice to come through the handset.

"Hayley nice surprise. Although I would have figured it would take you no time to realize that Draven was gone." The voice chuckled on the other end of the phone as he spoke to her seemingly quite pleased with his little game. "As you now probably realize I have taken her. Don't worry she is safe. Somewhat.."

"What do you want?" Hayley knew that she had to be careful. Trying to listen to the man's voice carefully to see if she recognized it seemed to be impossible. There was nothing about his voice that she knew or even vaguely could recall.

"1 million unmarked bills. You have 1 hour. Place them outside of the butcher shop about 3 blocks down. Once you leave and the it has been confirmed that there is the full amount. Draven will be returned safely to you at your HQ. Any questions?" The voice was stern and cold as he spoke. Unwavering he seemed so calm with his actions.

"How can I trust you? For all I know she isn't even alive anymore." Hayley needed to confirm that this wasn't going to be a set up just to get the money and never return Draven.

Suddenly a shot rang out and Hayley heard Draven scream through the phone. "Proof enough for you." Hayley stood motionless as she listened to him speak.

"Fine. 1 million in 1 hour at the butcher shop." Hayley hung the phone up abruptly. "Hmmm.. Now to plan."

Hayley motioned for Nicky to follow her as she walked out of the trashed room and into the hallway. Going down the hall Hayley seemed deep in thought ignoring everyone that passed by her. Reaching her office she walked in, hung her coat up on the coat hanger and stood at the window that over looked the city. Nicky shut the door behind him as he entered and sat down in the leather chair that was across from the desk.

"Such a pretty day it was going to be." Don Hayley continued to stare out the window, her breath fogging up the place directly in front of her. Taking her finger she rubbed through the foggy spot and sighed. "I refuse to let them win. I just can't let that happen. How I also have to ask myself were they able to do this?" Turning to Nicky she expected him to answer.

Nicky faced her and looked at the floor. "I agree with you. We can't just let them win this. It will happen again if we do. As far as how.. I don't know. I can't answer that. I can assume but I don't know. I have an idea though of how to make this right." Nicky looked up at Chicago's Don as she sat down at her oak desk and picked up a pen that she twiddled in her fingers.

"Ok. I am all ears." Hayley set her pen down and leaned forward ready to listen intently to Nicky.

"First you go to the butcher shop and leave the money setting just as they said to. There is a gun shop right across the street that a friend of mine runs. Shouldn't be to hard I don't think to talk him into letting us wait there for the person to come recover the mill. We can also have someone stationed on the roof top to watch and make sure that the coast is clear. I know that the person picking up the mill won't be the one that actually took her so we would have to capture him and make him talk. Once we figure out where and who he was taking the money to. Well we lock and load and cross our fingers." Nicky took a breath and waited for Hayley to give her opinion.

"Well it might work, but we are leaving a lot to chance. That I just can't do. We need a plan that we know will work. I am afraid that they would see us go into the gun shop. If they do see then for lack of a better term we are screwed. Do we not have any idea of who did this?" Hayley spoke quietly making sure if anyone was trying to over hear him that they would be unable to.

Nicky nodded in agreement and sat back in his chair. "I agree with you but I don't know what else we could do. I mean we could just give them the money and set up shooters once Draven is fixing to be dropped off, but that is meaning we trust them to drop her off."

Hayley smiled at Nicky. "I got it." Looking at the clock on the wall Hayley realized they were running out of time. She threw a set of keys at Nicky who caught them and looked oddly at her. "Get a mill out of the safe for me, and then meet me at the car."

Rising from her desk she gave a quick grin to Nicky, walked out and headed for her car. Opening the door she slid into the drivers side and started the car. She took a deep breath and then started the engine. "15 min. I know this will work." Nicky walked up the car and pulled on the door handle popping the door open.

"Here you go." He said as he tossed a briefcase with the mill in it on to the seat. "Good luck."
