Detroit Take Down Started by: Marietta on Jan 13, '09 23:05
Gorgeous. One simple word to describe how amazing the skyline in the city of Detroit looked that night; the tiny windows on minute buildings lit up like fireflies against the black velvet night sky. She sighed, her elbows leaning upon the railing of the terrace as her fingers wrapped tighter around the wine glass in her hands. The soft noise of silverware tinkling and the other dinner party patrons chattering and chuckling wafted their way out to the blonde woman through the open dining room door. Another day, another party, she muttered to herself, her line of vision caught on the dark, hulking shadow of the motor factory below. With a sharp exhale and a roll of her eyes Marietta Rossi, Godmother of the Detroit crime syndicate, straightened up and mumbled: Another dime, another opportunity, another murder. Cheers!

Tipping her head back she brought the wine glass to her lips and drained the contents. A Riesling. Too dry.

"Was that a scoff I heard, Miss Rossi?" a teasing voice rang out behind her. With a half smile of recognition Marietta turned, narrowing her green eyes playfully to the very young woman standing before her: her usually stalk straight dark hair swept up into a classy bun on the back of her neck, a little black dress showing off her tan legs ending in an expensive pair of black high heels. She couldn't help but be envious of her associate and friend's youthful body, but shook away those feelings with a quick flick of her eyebrows upwards. Well well Mirage! Aren't you a vision in... black? What happened to the purple dress?

"Changed my mind at the last minute. I see you managed to break away from the festivities."

Marietta gave a small snort of laughter and lowered her voice considerably. I'm bored out of my mind- almost to fucking tears, if you can believe it. Her head tilted upwards, her loose hair brushing her face as she did so, and she looked past Mirage to view the people sitting at her dining room inside. The entire upper structure of the Contadino family, located in the lower East side of Detroit, were stuffing themselves silly with steaks and assorted vegetables, chattering happily with some of the Riot's best and brightest members. With a small giggle she noticed MickeyRourke, the Don of her Relentless operation, squirming in his chair as one of the Contadino's lady Capos kept leaning closer and closer to him, whispering exaggeratedly- and drunkenly- into his ear. I don't think they get out much.

"Agreed. What the hell is she trying to do, sit in his lap?"

That would be my guess. Either way, I don't care. He's being a great sport about all this. All the guys are. Really taking one for the team. She cringed as she watched a red-wine glass get knocked over by a large, bumbling Boss, cascading to the floor and drenching the cream carpet. "Ouch," Mirage stated, folding her arms across her chest and tsking. Marietta merely scoffed again. The ruined carpet would have to wait. No matter. I just want them all in the best of moods before we talk to Luciano.

Luciano... the head of the Contadino Crime Syndicate. It was he that mattered the most to Marietta that night. He was known for being a well-mannered man, agreeable in business and passive in war-crime. If anything happened to HIS family, or HIS territory, though, the rumors stated that the only thing left recognizable about your body would be the blood-type. She couldn't help but gulp at the thought. When she had first taken over the Godmother position, and had only days later lost Mirage's mother Zoey to an ill-fated bullet, Marietta had considered herself to take an inactive stance to her business prospects. Preferring everyone else around her to take care of things while she sat around lording over people in her Castle, she was more than annoyed when she found out she was required for a special part in an assignment she had given, just days before, to Mirage and Aurora.

Takeovers. Business per usual. The Riot ran a tight ship and did business all across America, but as of late it seemed they were being shown up by the smaller Italian faction that worked out of their shadow. This was not good news at all, so after organizing a peaceful enterprise take over, she was surprised to hear that Luciano would not speak nor associate with the Riot crew, unless the Godmother herself was present.

Rather than cancel the entire thing, she rose to the occasion for the first time in ages. She planned an over the top, lavish dinner party. A dinner party complete with an alternate agenda; get the man and a few of his high rankers over, get them sloshed enough to not recognize where they were or what they were saying... then the ladies would take Luciano to Marietta's office and chat with him privately about a non-hostile hand-off. The first part was already going as planned. Now... now they were moving on to phase two.

"...carrying, just in case things go sour." Mirage was apparently still talking, putting the safety on her small handgun and stuffing it into the sash of her dress.

What? Marietta replied stupidly.

"Listen to me for one second, will ya? Are you carrying for precautions sake?"

Oh. Oh! Yes! Marietta quickly drew up the hem of her calf-length sapphire colored dress, revealing a small gun holster and inside of it- her trusty Walther PPK.

"Good," was Mirage's reply, grinning. "Ready to introduce me to the Contadinos?"

Sighing heavily she shook her head from side to side. Yes? No? I'm too old for this shit. Ignoring the stifled giggles from her associate, she tilted her head towards the open door. Let's do this.

The big night finally arrived and Mirage couldn't wait for it to get over with. Since Marietta told her and Aurora to talk to The Contadinos a few days earlier Mirage had a bad feeling about them. They seemed like polite and respectful mobsters, but Mirage knew that was only on the surface. Beneath that they were cut throat monsters and there was a rumor they wanted to expand their rackets into downtown Detroit where The Riot did most of their business. Over my dead body, Mirage thought as she mingled around introducing Marietta to a few of the Contadino soldiers.

The house was full of the most notorious criminals from Detroit. At the end of the table Gaurdian and El_Nino were talking to each other. Mirage smiled at Guardian and he winked back at her. She was relieved he was there. His presence made her feel more at ease with the Contadinos. Also there were the Rourkes, Mickey and Thomas. As Mickey tried to pull himself away from the woman sitting next to him Mirage waved across the room at Hypno and WildTurkey. They were talking to a couple of Contadino's men.

"Are you going to introduce me to Luciano so we can get this over with?" Marietta mumbled to Mirage between shaking hands and greeting people. The Godmother of Detroit looked like she didn't want to be there. It didn't surprise Mirage. Lately her boss spent more time visiting Zoey's grave in the cemetery than she did in the HQ. Mirage missed her mother too, but she was tired of hearing about how great she was and how much she meant to Marietta.

Yes, after we talk to Aurora. Mr. Contadino looks like he's busy talking to the men, anyway.

They approached Aurora who was standing near the bar with one of her bodyguards. She was watching the men at the table and contemplating their meeting with Luciano Contadino. The take over of the Contadino's business was a big deal to all of them. Aurora was as anxious as Mirage about finishing the job.

"Are we ready for the meeting?" The loyal Right Hand to the Godmother asked.

No. Mirage frowned and gestured for the bodyguard to leave them so they could talk privately. As he walked away Mirage turned towards Marietta. With all due respect, boss, this meeting and take over might go better if you look like you actually want to do it.

"What are you talking about?" Marietta looked confused as she questioned Mirage. "Of course I want this deal to go through."

Bullshit! The one word response was said by both Mirage and Aurora at the same time. They looked at each other and recalled several conversations they had with each other about Marietta's lack of interest in the business lately. It worried them, but neither of them tried to talk to the Godmother about it. Mirage added more to their bold one word objection.

It's time to move forward instead being stuck in the past. The good old days are gone and Zoey is too. This take over is a big deal for me and everyone else who works for you. We're here and we need you to want it as much as we do. Okay?

Mirage stared at Marietta and waited for an answer.

Give me another Vodka Tonic please. Make it heavy on the lime this time. I don't want to taste the tonic over everything else. Aurora was pretty snappy with the bartender when demanding her drink

She tasted her drink and made a sour face as she looked around the room at everything going on. Aurora knew that tonight was a big night and everything had to be perfect. She only wished that everyone was on the same page with way the evening was unfolding.

Making her way over to Mirage and Marietta, she could tell that Marietta was reluctant about something. She didn't know what though, she was the Godmother and all. She called the shots now. Who cares if people agreed or disagreed?

Are we doing this today, or what? I want to get this over with. It's been a long time coming now. In my opinion we should've organized this a few weeks ago. Contadino has been making more profit than he's worth lately.

Aurora looked to Mirage to gauge her reaction to what she just said. Mirage had the same look of approval on her face that Aurora did. The two didn't know why it was taking so much effort for Marietta to see that this is the best thing. Aurora knew that Marietta wanted this too, afterall Marietta was the one who suggested it.

Listen, Mari you know this is the best thing for business. I know you want everything to go smoothly and it will. If it doesn't, we will take alternative action which will be just as effective. This is our territory, and anyone we feel taking advantage of it should be dealt with accordingly. We just hope for his sake, he sees our ways the first time around.

Louis Gato stood at the side of the room, sighing, roling his eyes, and generally silently judging the mobsters that thought the occasion right to get completely slated and make fools of themselves. It was shameful really, whatever the purpose of this event was Louis couldn't imagine it was just a piss up for this little faction that had started up in Detroit.

The young man stood fairly tall, his hat straight and neat, Louis wanted to see everything that was going on. His jacket was buttoned closed and his hands he held behind his back, though he was content and relaxed, he was still aleart and ready to act should he need to. Though he wasn't aware how to 'act', he had escorted Don Guardian and El Nino to the building and was pointed towards the tables with people important to the family on them, all looked pretty much the same, though he still took in details

There was quite a few people wandering around now, and so Louis stepped up his awareness, keeping a keen eye for anything that should need him to step in. He glanced at his knuckles, scuffed and slightly swollen. 'Will be using my other hand then for a while...' he thought, before scanning the room once more.

Marietta felt her insides growing steely against the words that Mirage and Aurora were saying. She understood they were reaching out to her, trying to pull her back to normalcy, but deep down inside the pit of her heart she felt there was still that small part of her that wanted to disassociate herself from it all. To live carefree, to spend her days shopping for trivial things she didn't need nor want, and to spend her nights locked inside of her office with only a bottle of scotch for a friend.

Whatever, was all she muttered like a moody teenager, feeling an immediate pang of guilt for being so dismissive. Here were two ladies who had pledged their lives to protect her. And what for? To throw away their time watching a once lovely, proud and confident woman slowly waste away her life not doing what she was good at- what she was MEANT to do. Taking a deep breath Marietta gave the two young ladies a genuine smile and nodded her head slowly. I'm trying, girls. I hope you know that. I'm trying so very hard to keep myself together. I'm not just doing this for territory gain, I'm hoping that it'll help me snap out of whatever problems I'm having. So I'm sorry, for being careless and hurtful lately.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw Pedro, her most trusted of bodyguards since the two had met in their late twenties, slowly start to meander in the direction of the bar, next to which the three ladies stood. Feeling rushed she let the last few sentences stumble out of her mouth as quickly as possible: But I'm going to try and make amends. We can do this. I can do this. Pedro walked up to the trio, wrapping one of his arms delicately around Marietta's waist and jerking his head towards the others in greeting. "What's the verdict?" he asked gently, he above all knew that the Godmother couldn't be prodded into a decision hastily. "We're going to do this," Aurora replied with an admiring smile towards Marietta. Mirage too seemed to beaming, though it was hard to tell as the woman was usually straight laced when it came to business matters.

Then... lets do this. Her chest felt tight like she couldn't breathe, urging her to run screaming from the building. Yet she was a woman of her word; she had just agreed, and was not going to allow herself the luxury of backing down so easily. Waving her hand to gesture the others to follow, she broke free from Pedro's grasp and began to walk over to the long, mahogany dining room table. As she passed by the young woman from earlier was whispering into Mickey's ear. "No thanks," he said in reply to something she had whispered. With a pout she instead turned to Guardian on her other side, blatantly asking "What about you, love? Up for a private meeting?" Marietta swore she heard Mirage give a small growl underneath her breath from behind her, but paid no mind as she made a beeline for the head of the table where Luciano sat.

The man was visibly drunk, staring into his empty tumbler glass and muttering underneath his breath. He looked up at her with bleary eyes as she approached, grinning through his intoxication. "Well well, Godmother. Thank you very much for the dinner. It was delicious."

Not a problem, she responded with a kind smile. I figured it was long overdue for a small get-together between families.

"It is much appreciated, I can tell you that. We're all about the business these days. We hardly have any time for..." He paused to let out a small hiccup, giving a chuckle before he continued, "...pleasure these days."

Unfortunate, Marietta simpered. Her eyes darted around the room, noting that all the other Contadinos were, indeed, preoccupied with other various activities before leaning in close to the man. I heard that you're a great fan of Seventeenth Century Italian still-life paintings.

"Ah!" the man exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise. "But of course I am! And you are as well?"

Oh, most definitely, she responded in honesty, being a lover of art. I happen to have a few choice pieces hanging in the back end of the apartment... that is, if you're interested in a tour?

There was no need to ask him twice. He stood hastily, almost knocking his chair over as he backed away from her table. Marietta placed her hand on the small of the stocky man's back, pressing him forward towards the direction of her hallway. Right this way, sir.

Walking across the cream carpeted floor of the dining room, passing by a tall young man on their way to the hall, well lit by miniature sconces that her once-fiancLiam had helped her pick out when she first moved in after becoming a Don. A bitter feeling crept up into her throat as she tore her gaze away from them, gesturing towards a heavy oak door before the group. They are just in here, she said, grabbing the handle and pushing the door inward. Immediately Luciano toddled inside, and Marietta gestured Aurora, Mirage and Pedro before she herself entered.

Pink and white, and true to the woman's form, her home office was softly lit by a single overhead light. The Contadino man traveled around the room, gazing at the collection of five paintings Marietta had for viewing. Pedro immediately took an intimidating stance next to the door, the girls preferring to take seats in front of the huge wooden desk, complete with multiple drawers and brass knobs. Taking her last deep breath before realizing there was no turning back, the Godmother shut the door to her office tightly, twisting the lock with a loud 'click'.

Louis watched as a group of women he assumed to be the heads of the family, appraoched and spoke with the Contadino table. He recognised Aurora from a previous meeting, but the other two were facing towards the table. Stretching his neck slightly, he made another sweep of the room, his attention being caught by a rather loud member of the Contadino's across the room. His laugh was sickly, his throat obviously doused in wine and filling his mouth with saliva. Even from here Louis could see those around him getting splashed

As he concentrated over the room, he never noticed the group of family heads moving towards him, and only caught a glance as they had passed. He cursed himself for getting distracted and just watched as the group approached Miss Rossi's office and, after Luciano had fell inside, the rest followed and closed the door behind them.

The drunken man was getting louder, he began shouting at a member of the catering staff, innocently clearing glasses. The rest of the enforcers that the family had have watch over the meeting began moving closer to their respected targets, assigned to defend. Louis was looking elsewhere though.

The Contadino table had setteled, someone obviously aware thier drunken state and boss had just been taken advantage of. Louis didn't blame them for being concerned, if Guardian was led away by people with business on their mind, he would be stuck to him like a ... sticky thing. A couple stood and straightened out thier jackets, the other enforcers pre-occupied with the man now throwing his weight around, and he had a bit of it.

Stepping slowley, Louis Gato moved towards the locked doors as the Contadino men quickley marched across the room. He got there before them and stood rigid infront of them, greetings the mobsters with a smile and polite word

"Good evening gentlemen, can I help you?"

When Mirage heard Marietta say, "We're going to do this." the younger woman instantly felt better about the take down. As the Godmother lead them to their prey Mirage saw the Contadino woman at the table move from MickeyRourke to Guardian. Her attempt to pick up the Dons of Detroit irritated Mirage. She stepped between Guardian and the woman as Marietta continued walking towards to Luciano Contadino.

Having fun? Mirage inquired and smiled at the woman. Without waiting for an answer she quietly added, I'd appreciate it if you kept your hands off what's mine.

"Oh, I'm very sorry." The Contadino woman took her hand off Guardian's arm and moved back to the empty seat next to MickeyRourke. "I didn't know he was yours."

They're both mine. Mirage put her hands on Guardian and Mickey's shoulders to claim them. They both smiled at her.

Minutes later as they left the dining room Mirage walked past LouisGato and quietly spoke to him. They've had a lot to drink, but keep an eye on them. She gestured to the Contadino woman at the table. And let me know if she gets near the Dons again.

In Marietta's office Mirage sat silently next to Aurora as the Godmother and Luciano Contadino talked about the paintings. She heard every word they said, but her thoughts were on the take over of Contadino's business. They ran a lot of profitable rackets, profit that would soon go to The Riot if everything went as planned.

"Luciano, I heard you got a new building permit recently." Marietta sat down behind her desk and questioned the leader of Contadino Crime Syndicate. "What are you building?"

"A casino." Luciano answered proudly and sat down on the chair next to the desk. "It'll be full of slots, roulette and black jack." He took a drink from the glass in his hand and bragged more. "The money will be pouring in as soon as the doors open."

The news of Contadino's plan to open a casino didn't surprise the women. They did their homework and knew everything he was involved in. There wasn't anything they couldn't handle. They were confident the rackets they were going to take over would continue to run smoothly under their supervision.

You have money pouring in everywhere, Mr. Contadino. Mirage had estimates of the profits Contadino made from most of his rackets. She memorized them before the dinner party. As she told Luciano the figures he looked surprised then suddenly sober. He put his glass on the desk and crossed his arms as he talked to the Godmother. "Miss Rossi, why does your girl know so much about my business?"

Another tripe of an excuse fell from Louis Gato's mouth as the questioning men of the small time Detroit operation demanded to be let into the room where Godmother Rossi and her associates were conducting business. Though the three goomba's stood over Louis with an air of intimidation, the young man stood his ground. It wasn't blind and wreackless arrogance of his rank, prowess or reputation that made Louis feel safe, and even though his trust in the family and his safety was strong, he was more dedicated to following through his debt to the family.

Could this be the day his life is required, to keep these men a little longer on the other side of these doors? Unlikley, but maybe so. Louis's confidence thrived on that thought and his quick mouth kept the men at bay, though they looked ready to rush him and barge straight through the doors, Gato hoped he had reached them and felt his body relax

"Gents if you please, I will find out from an associate exactly how long we are expected to wait, though I must insist that nothing malicious is in store for your boss."

Louis didn't care what happened to that suit, he just wanted to make sure those that did were kept in the dark until he could get some facts.

It was then though that some commotion kicked off across the hall, something smashed, a scream was heard and out the corner of his eye Louis saw Mickey Rourke being heavily groped by the learing young lady from the Contadino party, making her move once again.

"Oh, Christ."

The party was disintegrating. That wasn't surprising considering the lives the people in attendance lived and the sheer amount of alcohol available to them at the moment. From his position, leaned casually against the wall across from the hall leading to Marietta's office Oda Etsuya can see more or less all the goings on in the dining room. With the experience of a man who's been around mobsters and hostile situations almost his entire life, Suya assesses the situation in just a few seconds and decides where his assistance is needed most.

Pushing himself easily off the wall, Suya straightens his suit and discreetly checks the position of the gun in his waistband and the daggers strapped to his forearms before crossing the room to where the three Contadino enforcers are pressing towards the Godmother's office. He'd seen the ladies disappear in there. He didn't know what was going on in that room, but if an effort was being made to keep the Contadino's out, he was certainly going to do his part to aid that effort.

Acting far more drunk then he actually is, as in truth he'd been nursing the same drink for most of the party and had only recently refilled the glass in his hand, Suya comes up behind the Contadino's, grinning widely and winking at the man standing between them and the office and throws his arms around the shoulders of two of the goombas. A flood of Japanese comes out of his mouth as he leans heavily on the two men. He hiccups and then, as if suddenly realizing none of the men speak Japanese, he begins to laugh.

I am so sorry gentlemen. How are we all doing over here? Everybody having a good time? Enjoying the party?
Report Post Tip
Breathing a silent sigh, Louis quickly took note of the other members of the Contandino members that could provide muscle for the family while Etsuya played his drunken yob act. The hall seemed pretty clear, the proximity between themselves and the nearest group of goomba's heightened by the man causing trouble across the room.

There seemed little option than to disturb the Godmother and her aides from their business, but Gato wanted to stall for just a little longer, turning to the men and joining in with Etsuya's act, smiling, laughing and nodding

"Look gentlemen, nothing sinister is at hand here, it would be foolish to cause trouble with all these mobsters and weapons present, no?"

'Or maybe so foolish that it's genius...' Louis thought, suddenly realising that's probably not possible

"How about a drink gents? On me."
Report Post Tip
Somehow, the goofy grin on Suya's face manages to get even bigger. In fact, his whole face seemed to light up, as if Louis' suggestion was the best idea he had heard in years.

Yes! Drinks! That is exactly what you gentleman need.

While Suya's physique was by no means that of a bodybuilder, the physique he had was about as near as a man could get to being a solid wall of muscle. And he's spent years training his body to use every inch of that wall of muscle against anyone and everyone, no matter their build, should the need arise. He used all that finely tuned muscle now to steer the two Contadino's he had his arms around towards the bar, relying on Louis to bring along the third.

I bet that is why you gentlemen are so cranky. You have not had as much to drink as the rest of us. You feel left out. Tell you what, Louis here will will get the next round, then I will get the round after that.

So far the three Contadino's seemed to be going along, but more likely then not, they were simply dazed by the flurry of drunken enthusiasm he and Louis were throwing at them. That wouldn't last. Soon enough they'd recover their senses, and that's when Suya needed to be ready for punches to start flying as the made another push to get to Marietta's office.
