Authorization Started by: Jay-C on Oct 22, '07 18:52
Jay-C steps up to the crowd to see them gathering round. He takes off his hat, and and removes his coat, folding it over his right arm.

While I have been walking the street lately, there have been a lot of topics I have been hearing. Some not gone so well for the discussion starter, some the bring people together, some that draw people a lot further apart. So I have come to start another topic: Authorization.

I have heard this discussed a number of times, however, all the discussions I have heard on this topic have been negative, in the form of "That doesn't DESERVE Auth" or "That's a rubbish way to determine Auth" In some way or another, these discussions always come back to the CL's, and very often, they get annoyed that people do not trust their judgment, and start bitching about it.

So, I come here today to ask YOU, yes that's right, you. Any of you, no matter who you are, or where you come from. The question I am asking is a simple one to say, but a more complicated one to answer. This is the question I speak off;

"What do YOU think should be done in order to decide who is worthy for Authorization"

That is the question, and I would love to hear people's opinion's. But just one more thing. Could we all try to be respectful to each other, and not start any bitching with each other. This is a VERY opinionated subject, with MANY different views from each person. And I hope this doesn't cause another outbreak of arguments.

My answer to this question would be this;

"To determine worthiness of Authorization, one needs to be well-spoken, well-dressed, and respectful, as well as respected. They should be a confident speaker, who is relatively friendly, but who also knows when to stand their ground and stick up for what they believe in. Authorization cannot be decided on one matter, no, it is a number of qualities one must have to be a Crew Leader. After all, being a Crew Leader isn't just the pride of being one, with the respect, you also have a job to do. A lot of responsibility now lies onto you. And if you abuse that responsibility. You will not be a Crew Leader for very long. Also, this applies with power, Crew Leader's will have power, but once again, if you abuse it, I'm afraid to say other's wont like it."

That's just my opinion, now I have given mine. What's yours?

Jay-C steps down and motions for anybody to step forward and explain their views

I say they turn the city into a free for all city give whoever wants it a chance to take it. Maybe let whoever wants to set up there set up and the big bosses will stay out of it. This means more then one crew for the city unless one crew shines out and takes the city. in the case that this happened other crew leaders in the other cities could not really take sides on the fighting going on in the city seeing how their crews would be much to powerful. I think it would spunk it up around here, make it its own little world where anything goes. This would give the little guy a chance to shine, so think about. I personally would like to see what happens, and hey if one crew ends up taking it over, so be it, you then have found the new candidate for the city. If there good enough to fight there way to the top with others trying to take them out left and right then they should have the city. I think that would be the best way for them to prove themselves. If one doesn't shine that's fine two it would be nice to have a city with more then one crew. Anyways just a thought. Thanks.

Nice little answer you have for my question. One thing though, how would this prove them to be good at anything else, apart from shooting a few other CL's and crew members? I think it is a nice idea to an extent.

Needs to be re-thunk a little though.

What happed to working your way to the top? And that is my answer to the question, work for it and hope that I have earned the respect of the powers that be, to the point that they entrust me with my own family. Whats worth having in this world is worth working for.
Report Post Tip
My opinion is simple, work your ass of for the family. Do whatever it is you do best and if the boss thinks your a possibility for auth they will consider you. If they don't then they won't.

Basically if your gonna get auth'd you need to be noticed by those above you and not just be another face in the crowd.

the person may have a good shot but im sure they wont be the only person with a good shot. Its no diffrent then fighting a war its just a war within a city. A crew leader could have a good shot and come out on top,or a crew leader could have a good shot and end up dead. lets say someone does have a good shot and takes out the other crewleaders someone else could pop up and take them out just as easly as they took the others out. if they fight hard enough they will get it and then they will be top dog. It works the same as our great cities just scaled down.

Jay-C listens to the answer, and speaks himself once again

"Very nice answers guys. BluntGuts, one more thing, but how does that prove them to be a suitable CL. That proves they can shoot, not be a good open speaker, or any other things needed to be a good CL. I think that's a flaw in that plan "

I think that a person wishing auth ought to really work for it. Be a distinctive and respectable face in the streets, work hard for your family, gain the trust, respect and friendship of the current leaders. And after all that is said and done, I think the person should submit an application of sorts. Explaining why they want to run a family, why they think they should gain auth and that they are able in all manners (being able to make responsible decisions that are best for their family and the community as a while, being able to have the guts to put their ideas and plans into action, having the time to put in the work that comes with a family, etc).

So, at this point, if the person has successfully done all this, and the leaders feel they are worthy from all their hard work... then I think they deserve auth to run a family of their own.

Hmmm...

(being able to make responsible decisions that are best for their family and the community as a while,

That was meant to say...

(being able to make responsible decisions that are best for their family and the community as a whole,

I do apologize..

Jay-C takes in Angie's answer, and constructs a reply

"Very well said, one thing with that is the application part. Some CL's frown upon their members asking them for auth, and think that people who ask for auth immediately get tossed to the bottom of the totem pole so to speak. But That is a good answer, and I do like the way you think.

Anyone else wishing to voice their opinion's? "

I just wanted to add that if you are a CL, and you want to auth someone in your city, then that person should be Made at least in the rank denoting the fact that he/she is a respected and honoured person of the Family.
Report Post Tip
" Well said C_I_D, Made is the ideal rank to begin thinking about auth. But you can't merely be authed for being made. There are a lot more factors involved. "

Jay-C scratches his head

" Does anyone else have an opinion? Maybe a CL? "
Report Post Tip
I agree that a CL should have control of thier city. That if they want to have another family right besides them, then they should choose someone who is hard working, loyal, knows his/her way around this world and has a sensible head on thier shoulders.

But when other cities are involved, where the other crew leaders should have NO POWER in, I think is upto us as people to grab the bull by the horns and set up a crew there, rather than be fearful that we might be killed for not being 'authed'.
Report Post Tip
" That is the use of the Acting Godfather Council though, they come to together to decide who is worthy of auth for cities which are not their own.

I think the current AGF system is a good one. Better than when it was first used, this side of the wipeout. "

Back in the olden days, the yesteryear, if you will, authorization was given to those that met certain requirements. It was an unspoken rule that an individual must have made a certain number of street appearances, communicated with others a certain number of times, and made some sort of effort to prove themselves.

Obviously, certain friends of the powerful were still given preferential treatment from time to time, but those that made strides to prove themselves and take on responsibilities were usually rewarded, rather than ignored.

I believe that if a member wants to lead, he or she should lead regardless of titles, obviously staying within the boundaries set by those with power. If one does prove themselves, I also believe they should be rewarded with opportunities, rather than passed over for the sake of personal friendships.

There's two cents from a Nobody for you.

" Thanks for your input MrNobody. Much appreciated. It is a very good way to put it in fact. Shame it isn't run that way nowadays "

Jay-C puts his coat back on as he begins to feel a breeze

" Another valued opinion about Authorization. Anybody else willing to voice their opinion, please do so now... "
