Special Treatment Started by: Mafioso on Jan 17, '09 11:16
Mafioso finds that soap box and stands on it, he's not sure if anyone's going to want to listen and hell, he didn't even know whether the topic he was going to talk about has been discussed already but he starts to speak anyway

It has come to my attention how many Gangsters seem to have bodyguards at the moment from the ranks of Goomba or Earner, all because they had a mother/father that was very powerful and I don't think this is right, why should they get special treatment and lots of money and quick promotions when we have to work hard for all of this.

I say these people should have to work hard to get to the position that their fathers/mothers were at because I've seen Consiglieres that are a mere 20 days to 1 month old and that they should earn the money to buy the bodyguards (I mean it's not too bad if they are given enough for 1 but when they get 20+ it's a bit ridiculous)

I know there are people who may disagree with me but I think that everyone should have to work hard to get to their rank, so heres my question:

Do you think that people should be allowed the money to buy bodyguards and to be ranked up quickly just because their father/mother was powerful?

I hope this makes a nice discussion

The crowd chuckles

Those in power or just the pure ability to do so, generally have the extra cash to put in a will for their children to take possession over once they pass on.

So I would have to say yes. They should be allowed. Their bloodlines cash, and if their parents were nice enough to leave some behind for their youngin's to prosper, more power to them. Me on the other hand? I never have money. Paying off prostitutes will do that too you I suppose.

You see to think that just because someone ranks quickly that they have not earned their position. I am one of these people that you speak of I suppose, and to be honest well what you say does strike a nerve. I might burn through the ranks quickly but by no means do I not earn what I have. Those in my family would easily tell you that, and maybe if you looked around for a bit you would see how and why those like me got to where they are at.

" I can see how people given special treatment due to their bloodline can cause annoyance, however I see nothing wrong with it personally. If I were ever lucky enough to lead a family and look after its members, then I would hope that they would do the same for my own blood once I have gone, after all I'd given my life for them."

* Pauses and clears throat*

Let me ask you this question Mafioso, If you were offered lets say enough bodyguards so you were fairly protected at an early age would you take them?

Also you have to take into account alot of the time when you see Thugs and Gangsters with lots of bodyguards, The money has come from thier foremothers/fathers, who have kindly left them a large sum of money so thier new born is very well looked after.

We have all seen mobsters fly through the ranks, and in our world its a fairly common things these days, for good or bad.. I will leave that up to you. In our world of crime, it seems things are speedy compared to normal, but in reality can a mobster learn the tricks of the trade, the family rules and earn enough respect and clout to be a Boss or Consigliere in less than a month? Well, I will leave that one up to you also, as these days mobsters are on caffine and can do about anything. You all remember the term 'Acquired Don by Jails, not respect'. You can do it, but will people view you the same as a powerful don who works their way up there using our principals and family.. Its all about your legacy in the end and how you want to be seen by others, if you care about that sort of thing.

Bodyguards, well I guess it depends on who you are, your position and do you have a bunch of friends and connections in our world. Its a revolving door, we see the same people with the same amount of bgs who will eventually be in charge.

If you can enter our world and not have an issue with being given gifts and not earning it all doing crime with your two hands, thats your thing and nobody can tell you different. Some mobsters enter our world and do it all from scratch, while others are able to take the easier route.. which route is for you is the question.

While it's not our place to question our leader's decisions it would certainly seem prudent to study them and see what pearls of wisdom we wee ones can glean. After all these people didn't get where they are by random chance.

Now, if I'm a leader and I've met someone early on that I feel is going to be important to me, important enough that I want their life protected well then buying bodyguards would seem to make sense. Another thing to consider is that it is far less expensive to hire these fellows while the person in question is at a low rank.

I doubt that these types of decisions are taken likely. After all it's still a fairly investment to make. The upkeep of bodyguards is not cheap either.

It only seems natural that someones ancestry is likely to figure into the equation for a number of reasons:
  • they are likely to have traits in common with their ancestors, be it for reasons of genetics or environment or some combination of the two
  • a debt of sorts is owed to the family, their ancestor worked for years for the family, in some cases giving their lives to protect it
  • if you know someones parents it is likely you already know their children to some extent
  • this is a family business and family take care of their own
  • as previously mentioned it is likely their parents had the forsight to tuck some cash away to provide for their children advantages that they themselves may not have had

I didn't mean to offend anyone in particular and I may not have worded it properly, what I'm trying to say is that there are also some other people who deserve this as much as they do and if someone dies they should be given money to get a good start but not go all the way to Consigliere so quickly, if this happens one time and they die for no reason it's okay but if every single time one person from that bloodline dies they will be able to just come back and be a high ranking member after 2 weeks or so, it would make it way too easy for them, obviously everyone disagrees with me and I may realize that it's alright for this to happen.

This is the first time my bloodline has entered the life of crime so it's never really happened to me, and maybe when I die my son will realize how much help it is to have the money kept for him.

Well thats my two cents anyway

It seems everyone hit the nail right on, but I also understand your frustration as well.

I'd say all the parties here have some slice of the truth. But ultimately, it's the funds of the boss, or higher echelon of la famiglia be exchanged. It's their green, it's their choice where to place it.

As far as individuals burning through the hierarchy of our thing. It's something the bosses should be prudent of. In my opinion the books are open too too often and the value of the made man has began to fade, but on the flip-side... less people are being subversive.

Either, ultimately these decisions are that of the boss. Wither it's something that concerns you or not, or even effects you... you should respect it, even if you don't like it.

People take care of the off spring of family and friends all the time with money for drugs or bodyguards. There's nothing wrong with helping the children of people who died for the family. When I look around at the protected people I work with I know they didn't get help simply because of who their parents were. They got it because they are loyal to the family and helping them when they are young is an investment in the work they'll do in the future. Their work is worth more than all the money in the world because they help keep the family alive during conflicts. Regardless of that I think a family should do whatever they want with their money. It's no one else's business if they throw it all away at black jack tables or use it to protect their members.

As far as promotions are concerned I've worked just as hard as my relatives to earn what I've accomplished. So what if people fly through the ranks. That's how our business works. Some people work faster and do more to earn their promotions in a shorter amount of time than others.

Looks at the old man Sal and nods his head

Right or wrong, we must respect what our mafia leaders have done, if they choose to promote these mobsters, give them cash or push them through the ranks of our world.. its not up to us to question until we are in a position to do something about it, or else we could end up swimming.. and all our opinions and views will mean nothing at that point.

Regardless of whether it's right or it's wrong, it's hard earned money. If I find myself with 500k on hand, and a member of my family who's bloodline is close to mine, I may buy them a bodyguard.

It's my money, is it not? Whats the difference whether I buy a few new suits or a bodyguard?

I understand where you are coming from Mafioso, but I have to agree with the statements that if someone dies and their bloodline has thought ahead to protect their children, then by all means do so. Also, with the ranking, it is something that, no matter who your bloodline was, you have to do crime and jail breaks to rank that quickly, then the head of the family has to deem you ready for that promotion. And if someone has the time on their hands to rank that quickly, and the crew leader believes they are ready for it, then by all means they have earned it. I know my great grandmother made the rank of consigliere in 14 days. If her crew leader did not feel she was ready for that, she would not have been given it as soon as it got there. It would have sat and collected dust.

With time i will leave extra funds available for my child, i teach him some of our ways as he grows, so if anything happens to me, he will always have a heads up in the world.

If my son can progress quicker then me and learn a few things, whilst getting a lil more protection i believe that is great. With time he will do the same for his child and the bounties will increase. By nature or nurture we supposedly get smarter each generation so why not make the most of it whether through trust funds or knowledge. The legitimate world does not care when a parent pays for a childs education or car; so where is the difference.
