Finally I saw the statue of liberty. I felt like this journey took forever, live can be lonely on a freight ship but I was glad I found a way to travel over the ocean. The USA, I read so much about it in my cousins letters. I felt sad I had to left Sicily, I already missed my hometown Agrigent. It's been beautiful there. But I had to come here after I heared that my cousin isn't alive anymore. My first steps on american concrete. I felt good and I felt that I'll have a great future here. As I checked my wallet and saw it was empty I knew what I had to do. I always been a great thiev back in Sicily. I had to steal daily to have something to eat for myself and my family so I was sure this wasn't a problem at all. I walked to a nearby park and sat on a bench. As I saw an old lady and nobody else around I decided to go for it. As expected...not a problem. I managed to get 80$. I couldn't belive how rich those americans were. I could live for days with 80$ in my hometown. I went to a restaurant and had a great meal. This is awesome, I have never lived that good and at that point I decided to be never poor again. I robbed some more old ladies purses. I had almost 400$ in my pockets, I felt like a god. Then I saw a guy in a back alley. I also read about those guys, these were drug dealers. I walked to him and had a chat. I always been a good actor and so I sound like I knew what I was talking about. After a few more crimes I walked past the alley were I met the drug dealer. He said I should come to him for a second. He was begging me to buy back the alcohol I bought from him earlier. I sold it back to him with quite some earning for me. I felt like the richest man in the world. While I was minding my own business and walking along the streets I always recognized these fine men dressed in expensive suits which even I, the richest man, couldn't afford. I know these were the men my cousin told me about, the mafiosi of the USA. I saw mafiosi in Sicily but they were different, they weren't dressed as business men and they weren't nearly as rich as them. I knew that this will be my future... |
