| Pondering about pickpocketing | Started by: RandolfoRourke on Jan 30, '09 21:59 |

Stepping up unto a corner outside of a smoke shop in Detroit, Randolfo ponders out into the streets and watched a crowd form around as he starts to speak With the newly found policy in New Orleans of being pickpocket friendly, and the long since standing trend in Philly, I was wondering what the general consensus is about pickpocketing. Should pickpocketing be a crime punishable by death? Is it one of those 'no-big-deal' things, to be met with an oh well and have a nice day? Looking around, Randolfo notices that more people have begun to take interest at this topic, before continuing, Randolfo lights up a cigar In my own opinion more cities should become pickpocket friendly, it is to my knowledge that most people don't see it as a big deal. I personally don't think a few thousand bucks here and there is that big of a loss. If people don't want their money stolen, then they should use the newly found wonders called banks. Pausing for a second, the crowd is silent waiting for him to continue I personally don't mind being pickpocketed, to me it's a way to say hey, I want to increase my skills as a mobster. Sure, in times of low income I'd be pissed if someone stole from me, but in those times, I make it a point to not carry my money on me. Those who don't have the money to be stolen, as I stated before, should just put it in a bank. To those who are lucky enough to be making the big bucks, it shouldn't matter if those who aren't as lucky steal from them. Christ, it's the mafia, stealing is a way of life to us. Stepping down from the corner, Randolfo leaves the topic up for debate. Should more cities become pickpocket friendly? What are your opinions on pickpocketing in general? |

Louis takes a moment to think, while leant up against the bar he was drinking in. He took a drag of his cigarette and flicked it, sending a flutter of ash trickling to the sidewalk "You speak of it as a very tame, acceptable way of life. Do not forget that these cities, though in a time of peace and negotiation, are still in competition" Louis frowns as he recalls an incident a few days ago "I had a 'mobster' approach me and ask if he could stick his hands in my pockets, the guy was a kid, he was young and spoke like a child, but in the ranks he was above me." "I told him no chance, I can tolerate members of my own family asking, and I don't see why not if they want to be a street urchin and finger gangsters sweaty scrotums then sure, pickpocket me, but not those considered competition." "So I see little gain in it, I don't want that way of life, I'll keep my hands to myself and by preferance so will other people. But family I allow. You bump into someone, either miss their pocket and grab a hand of nothing or a few dimes. I'd rather sit outside the jails and wait for another gauntlet of 10 guardsmen, thank you very much." |

I think there should be more pickpocket friendly cities. Being, it is what us in the mafia world do. In saying that, for all the people who don't like being pickpocketed there should be a couple of cities spared of the pickpocket friendly culture. If you don't like being pickpocketed don't winge about it, just stay in these cities. Our crew leaders have to much to worry about to be dealing with minor thefts. |

I don't want to see every city follow suit and create the same rules, for it will just breed the stagnancy ans stifling conformity we have all come to hate. As far as I can tell, some Leaders have chosen to enact pickpocket friendly policies to entice visitors to their city, whether this is to bolster the business district or create revenue for the soon to be built casinos. If this is the case, I see no reason why some leaders would not make their cities a safe haven for those who do not want to be pickpocketed; a "No Pickpockets" city. I think having different cities catering for different groups the community will prove a far more rewarding and interesting situation than having each City having precisely the same rules and regulations. |

| I think KingOfOnePercent makes a good point, having every city be exactly the same would get a bit old, but bringing up new ideas is surely what this speech was all about, kudos to you KOOP | |

Gato tips his hat, acknowledging Niko's arrival, before speaking up again "I see it as a waste of time, so you made off with a few bucks and maybe wasn't seen, well great. It just slows you down and leave you useless for your regime leader to find use for. I mean, you can hardly get so great a pick pocketing that you can turn a guy into worm food." "I just know that when the time comes for the call to arms, I'll be the one with my hand on my gun and not some goomba's balls." |

con rispetto, Tips hat to those in the room. Non chiedo il perdono le mie parole ma il mio senso di discorso. I figured I would throw in my few cents worth. I distrust pickpocketing for another reason entirely. Non un attacco alla vostra persona? Who is to say that you may not be in the middle of something important, paying tribute or doing a drug deal? Who is to say you do not have your enemy in your sights when un bambino, sticks his hand in your pants to feel what you have? And who is to say he won't get what is coming? or that he doesn't hurt you when you try to get him off of you? Unfortunately, I have had friends have their wallet stolen at exactly the wrong time, I've had people hurt on a pickpocket when they needed to be hale and healthy. Quanto a me, non ho bisogno della seccatura, As for you and your house, faccia come. |

I'm with my man KOOP on this one..I think for a few cities its great, and I'm glad its working. I also like to see "pick pocket free" cities, where it's deemed unacceptable and a nusance. Not saying we don't already have that, I just like the mixture I suppose/ |

Having different rules & styles for every city is a good thing. But I think it's not a bad idea to adopt a good idea for every city. And free pick-pocket is a good idea. At least that's what I think. |

| Personally I'd like to see what some of the leaders think of pickpocketing, maybe spread some insight on why or why not they are opposed to it | |

| I welcome anyone who thinks they have what it takes to grab a wad of my cash to feel free to do so. Naturally I may not be able to reciprocate, depends on my mood! | |

nods and smiles as he passes through the growing crowd. Personally i see a lot of high ranks pickpocketing or attempting, even a consigliere recently failed me. Do i think honestly a consigliere would risk everything over a pickpocket, not really. I personally believe if someone puts their hand in your pocket typically unless someone your friends with then they deserve the fingers chopped off. If i wanted to give out money i would have competitions not have people dip their hands in my pocket. If a city leader deems it is fine, i keep the money in the bank whenever i can but would not welcome a hand in my pocket. looks to one of the crowd reaching for his pocket and breaks his fingers before dissapearing down a back alley |

Personally, I can't see any scenario where a pickpocket could occur at the 'wrong time'. I've also yet to hear of a single person ever to be hurt by a pickpocket, although many have from the reactions of others to the event. This isn't the thugish type of 'mugging' we're talking about here where people can get hurt, we're discussing the skillful art of pocket wallet liberation where no harm other than fiscal loss occurs. If I were paying a tribute to my boss I'd be sure, as would most self respecting mafiosa, to carry a few spare thousand dollers on me. After all, business in N'Orleans has never been better for a legitmate business man like myself. Looks around with a sly grin on his face and a slightly slanty look to his eyes. If, heaven forbid, I happened to be out hunting at the time the least of my worries as I took aim would be if my wallet was secured. I am one hudred percent confident that it wouldn't disturb my actions. As mafiosa, we all have a certain level of street smarts. Nobody I know of walking these streets would ever carry more than say $5000 in a single pocket. So the potential for financial loss is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. Having said that, most mafiosa use this art as a test of skill and are all too happy to return the money following the act. In my humble opinion, the art of pickpocketing is very well respected in this thing of ours. Having seen people actually been given new roles and ranks as a result of their successes! If this is the case, then surely it's something that we should all participate in! The comment over not being able to help the family should the need arrise due to the action is a fair one. However, some people in this thing of ours are never and were never cut out to shoot. Saying that none of those people should ever pickpocket, increasing their rank and abilities, on the off chance that they would be needed for a protective shot is going a little too far in my eyes, but each to their own. Personally, I'm a big fan of pickpocketing. Although, my wallet does tend to lose me more than I seem to gain, so I might just have to rethink my stance ;) |

| Personally, I've never seen the act of pickpocketing as anything other than harmless fun. As was previously mentioned, the only negative effect of such an act is financial, and the net financial effect is an insignificant one. I think the idea mentioned by KOOP of a "No Pickpocketing" city certainly deserves some investigation, but again, I see this type of situation as harmless. | |

I have never really seen pickpocketing as an attack on myself. I know everyone's attitude is different regarding the subject of pickpocketing and Im sure it will always remain that way. I can definately see both sides of the coin here however as mentioned previously I see the only negative being that people can be left with a small financial dent in their pocket. As MacLeod said, its not really a significant amount is it? And if the issue is one of losing your money, heres an idea. Bank It! I know, I know, it's not the most ground breaking idea. I have always enjoyed and will always welcome hands in my pockets. Gibsen sticks some dollar bills in his pockets Come get em! |

I think the same way as Gibsen and have never thought that pickpocketing was an attack on me. It's a skill and an art that can be honed and trained to be successful over time. I for one am happy to let anyone pickpocket me no matter what city I am in. The most I can lose is 5000.00 and with a successful drug run I can easily pocket 75K. Seriously, 5000 is a drop in the bucket, what are you going to buy with it? A single unit of cheap coke? RedDevil stuffs a wad of 100's in his back pocket and as you see him walk away a single bill hits the ground. One for my homies? |
