with the new change in travel times it is no longer reaistic as in RL to travel from PH to NY it takes just under 5 hours by car so now apparently a flight only takes 2 hours off of that time. perhaos there could be a car or towncar option available to travel between cities when your flight timer is "Pending" maybe itll be available when half of you flight timer has been used and maybe itll just reset your flight timer |

I think its because its the 30s planes were slower and things were getting developed not really complete as they are today and Also Jetlag... who wants to get on one flight to get on another a couple minutes later |

The current flight times are actually A LOT faster than actual flights were back then. A passenger plane in the 30s would take 25 hours to get from NY to LA. Cars back then would have taken even longer too. |

the average flight speed in the 30's was actually 185mph and with ny to ph being 295 miles it would take approxamitely 1.5 hours in a dc-3 to travel it |

Well part of the point I made was that the flight times currently aren't meant to represent reality. The "sister cities" (NY+PH, CH+DT, LA+LV) all have flight times of three hours between them, flying to the centre from the coast is 6 hours, and flying coast to coast is 12 hours. They aren't meant to be based on reality, they are meant to make each 'pair' of cities equal. |

why not use a forumla for flight times based on a calulation based on the km/miles traveled as opposed to a set time?
example (flight time = distance / air speed of plane from era)
that formula actually lines up to what your going for to keep the flight times almost equal as well as keeping them almost what they were
with that forumla ph to ny is 1.5 hours and ny to LV is 13 hours (these cities used purely as example cities) |

of course tripleduce, To get to the airport, check in, fly, collect baggage, and get out of the airport is likely about 3 hours philly to NY. |

I think I already answered that when I said: "They aren't meant to be based on reality, they are meant to make each 'pair' of cities equal." |

One thing to keep in mind is that during the time frame the game takes place, commercial airlines were.. well.. in the infant stage. A flight from NY to LA for example, would be done at about 150-180 mph, stopping multiple times for fuel, switching pilots, landing any time weather got bad, landing when visibility was compromised, flew around mountains, didnt fly at night, and didn't fly in a straight line, but instead flew in the direction of airports "sort of on the way". Simply put, in most cases, trains were a faster form of transportation until the late 30s when the industry started doing well. Cars, cars were a horrible form of transportation of any distance. Our concept of driving now doesn't even relate to back then. Most roads were not improved, cars were slow, very unreliable. You would literally be driving on dirt roads more often than you can comprehend :) |

The first successful North American transcontinental trip by automobile took place in 1903 and was piloted by H. Nelson Jackson and Sewall K. Crocker, accompanied by a dog named Bud. The trip was completed using a 1903 Winton Touring Car, dubbed “Vermont” by Jackson. The trip took a total of 63 days between San Francisco and New York, costing US$8,000. The total cost included items such as food, gasoline, lodging, tires, parts, other supplies, and the cost of the Winton.
It took Merle Haggard's father over 1 week to drive from Oklahoma to Bakersfield in 1935, almost 1400 miles, a trip you could drive today in less than 24 hrs. |
